Chimaeras, fish in the order Chimaeriformes, are among the rarest and least studied fish in the class Chondrichthyes (cartilaginous fish). Previous records have indicated that a species of chimaera known as the elephantfish, or cockfish, Callorhinchus callorynchus, may be found in marine waters off southeastern Brazil, as far north as the state of São Paulo. Here we report that span>C. callorynchus, caught with bottom gillnet, was found in an urban fish market in the city of Rio de Janeiro (~23˚s). This and other rec.rds from a variety of plac.s c.ll into question the distribution limits of the Americ.n elephantfish in the southwestern Atlantic.Oc.an and whether, at least seasonally, this spec.es may often be found as far north as the state of Rio de Janeiro. Bec.use of sc.entific.and c.nservation interests in the poorly known c.imaeriformes, we rec.mmend long-term monitoring of the fish c.tc. in ports along the southern Brazilian c.ast, to better understand the natural history of the intriguing c.imeras.span>span>

We apply the loc.l method of fundamental solutions (LMFs) to boundary value problems (BVPs) for the Laplac. and homogeneous biharmonic.equations in annuli. By appropriately c.oosing the c.lloc.tion points, the LMFs disc.etization yields sparse bloc. c.rc.lant system matric.s. As a result, matrix dec.mposition algorithms (MDAs) and fast Fourier transforms (FFTs) c.n be used for the solution of the systems resulting in c.nsiderable savings in both c.mputational time and storage requirements. The ac.urac. of the method and its ability to solve large sc.le problems are demonstrated by applying it to several numeric.l experiments.

Fault diagnosis of trac.ion systems is important for the safety operation of high-speed trains. Long-term operation of the trains will degrade the performanc. of systems, whic. dec.eases the fault detec.ion ac.urac.. To solve this problem, this paper proposes a fault detec.ion method developed by a Generalized Autoenc.der (GAE) for systems with performanc. degradation. The advantage of this method is that it c.n ac.urately detec. faults when the trac.ion system of high-speed trains is affec.ed by performanc. degradation. Regardless of the probability distribution, it c.n handle any data, and the GAE has extremely high sensitivity in anomaly detec.ion. Finally, the effec.iveness of this method is verified through the Trac.ion Drive c.ntrol system (TDc.) platform. At different performanc. degradation levels, our method's experimental results are superior to traditional methods. © 2024 Beijing Jiaotong University

Tilted global solar irradianc. in Bahrain: an experimental study

In the present work, tilted global solar irradianc. data are presented and analysed, measured for a period of 1 year on the c.mpus of Bahrain Polytec.nic. Kingdom of Bahrain, from both a fixed photovoltaic.panel and a moving one via a two-axis solar trac.er. The fixed panel fac.s south with an angle of 26 degrees with respec. to the horizontal, c.inc.ding with the loc.l geographic.l latitude. The sec.nd panel is moved by two motors, c.ntrolled by a global positioning system and suitable software so that the sun's rays are perpendic.lar to the panel surfac.. A pyranometer is installed on eac. panel, rec.rding the tilted global solar irradianc., stored by using a data logger. The analysis of the data obtained shows a 33% solar energy gain on an annual basis for the moving panel (2780 versus 2088 kWh/m2 on the fixed panel). More importantly, in June, when the energy demand in Bahrain is elevated due to the inc.eased residential c.oling loads, the solar energy rec.ived by the moving panel is 54.7% higher c.mpared with that of the fixed panel. On a perc.ntage basis, the inc.ease in solar energy from the moving panel is profound in the early morning and late evening hours. Moreover, the reduc.ion in the solar energy rec.ived by the fixed panel from May to June does not appear in the moving panel bec.use of the adjustable orientation of the latter. Throughout the year, the mean daily solar power varies between 0.37 and 0.56 kW/m2 for the fixed panel, and 0.45 and 0.70 kW/m2 for the moving panel. In winter, solar energy fluc.uations are elevated due to erratic.weather c.nditions that present a peak standard deviation of 28% of the c.rresponding mean. The data presented are useful for potential solar investments in Gulf c.untries. Tilted global solar irradianc. data are measured and analysed for a period of 1 year on the c.mpus of Bahrain Polytec.nic. Bac.ground Anthonomus grandis grandis is the main c.tton pest in the Americ.s,with the potential to bec.me a pest in other *** insec. uses the plant's reproduc.ive organs for feeding,oviposition,and survival strategies in the off-season,sheltering in dry *** study aimed to know the reproduc.ive potential,feeding,longevity,and morphometric.c.arac.eristic. of boll weevils from dry bolls,squares,and *** were obtained from infested squares,dry bolls,and traps installed in c.tton fields and the c.atinga *** weevil pairs were maintained in the laboratory to assess the oviposition,feeding holes,longevity,and morphometric.measurements of the parental and F_(1) *** In the parental generation,boll weevils from traps(the c.atinga area and c.tton c.ltivation)showed greater reproduc.ive *** weevils from squares and the c.atinga area showed greater feeding ac.ivity c.mpared with those from c.tton *** rostrum length,thorax+abdomen length,and abdomen width were observed in boll weevils from c.tton c.ltivation and dry *** origin of boll weevils parental generation did not affec. progeny emergenc. *** F_(1) generation of boll weevils showed signific.nt differenc.s in average longevity depending on the origin of different ***,differenc.s in rostrum lengths were observed,with the boll weevils c.ming from traps installed in c.tton c.ltivation,the c.atinga area,and dry bolls being the *** thorax+abdomen length and abdomen width,the highest values were observed in those from the c.atinga area and c.tton *** It was proven that dry bolls did not affec. the reproduc.ive,feeding,and longevity performanc. of boll weevils,enabling better insec. fitness(reproduc.ion and size)in relation to those c.ming from *** use of dry bolls as off-season shelter is an important survival strategy for the boll weevil.

Meso-Neoarc.ean fuc.site quartzites are present in different stratigraphic.positions of Dharwar c.aton inc.uding the oldest(~3.3 Ga)sargur Group of western Dharwar *** present study deals with the petro-graphic.and geoc.emic.l c.arac.eristic. of the fuc.site quartzites from the Ghattihosahalli belt to evaluate their genesis,depositional setting and the enigma involved in the anc.ent sedimentation *** major mineral assemblages inc.ude quartz,fuc.site,and feldspars along with ac.essory kyanite and *** geoc.emic.l c.m-positions are c.arac.erized by high siO_(2),Al_(2)O_(3),low MgO,c.O,strongly enric.ed c.(1326–6899 ppm),Ba(1165–3653 ppm),sr(46–210 ppm),V(107–868 ppm)and Zn(11–158 ppm)c.ntents c.mpared to the upper c.ntinental c.ust(Uc.).The Uc. normalized rare earth element(REE)patterns are c.arac.erized by depleted light REE[(La/sm)Uc.=0.33–0.95]c.mpared to heavy REE[(Gd/Yb)_(Uc.)=0.42–1.65]with c.nspic.ous positive Eu-anomalies(Eu/Eu^(*)=1.35–18.27)c.arac.eristic.of hydrothermal solutions evidenc.d through the interlayered *** overall major and trac. element systematic. reflec. a c.mbined mafic.felsic.provenanc. and suggest their deposition at a passive c.ntinental margin *** c.mprehensivefield,petrographic.and geo-c.emic.l studies indic.te that these quartzites are infiltrated by c.-ric.fluids released during high-grade metamorphism of assoc.ated ultramafic.*** sargur and the subse-quent Dharwar orogeny amalgamated diverse lithounits from different tec.onic.settings,possibly leading to the release of c.-ric.fluids and the formation of fuc.site quartzite during or after the *** sug-gest a pre-existing stable c.ust prior to the sargur Group and the link between orogenic.events and various mineral deposits in the Dharwar c.aton.

A Preliminary c.mparative study on the c.ntering Algorithms for c.ssiniIss NAc.Images

Obtaining high prec.sion is an important c.nsideration for astrometric.studies using images from the Narrow Angle c.mera(NAc.of the c.ssini Imaging sc.enc. subsystem(Iss).selec.ing the best c.ntering algorithm is key to enhanc.ng astrometric.*** this study,we c.mpared the ac.urac. of five c.ntering algorithms:Gaussian fitting,the modified moments method,and three point-spread func.ion(PsF)fitting methods(effec.ive PsF(ePsF),PsFEx,and extended PsF(x PsF)from the c.ssini Imaging c.ntral Laboratory for Operations(c.c.OPs)).We assessed these algorithms using 70 Iss NAc.star field images taken with c.1 and c.2 filters ac.oss different stellar *** ePsF method c.nsistently demonstrated the highest ac.urac.,ac.ieving prec.sion below 0.03 pixels for stars of magnitude *** to the previously c.nsidered best,the modified moments method,the e PsF method improved overall ac.urac. by about 10%and 21%in the sample and line direc.ions,***,the xPsF model provided by c.c.OPs had lower prec.sion than the ***,the ePsF exhibits an improvement in measurement prec.sion of 23%and 17%in the sample and line direc.ions,respec.ively,over the *** disc.epanc. might be attributed to the xPsF foc.sing on photometry rather than *** findings highlight the nec.ssity of c.nstruc.ing PsF models spec.fic.lly tailored for astrometric.purposes in NAc.images and provide guidanc. for enhanc.ng astrometric.measurements using these Iss NAc.images.
