Expression of mutant type-p53 products in H pylori-associated chronic gastritis

AIM： To investigate the mutation of p53 immunohistochemically in non-tumorous gastric mucosa with H pylori infection before and aEer H pylori eradication therapy. METHODS： 53 subjects （36 male, 17 female, mean age ± SEM, 57.1 ± 12.1） undergoing endoscopic examination were included in this study. 42 of 53 patients were H pylori-positive, and 11 were H pylorinegative. All H pylori-positive patients had successful eradication therapy. Biopsy specimens were taken from five points of the stomach, as recommended by the updated Sydney system. Immunohistochemical studies were performed by using primary antibodies against p53 （DO-7 and PAb240）. RESULTS： p53 （DO-7 and PAb240） immunoreactivity was shown in the neck region of the gastric pits, however, quite a few cells were found to be immunopositive for p53 （PAb240）in the Hpylori-infected gastric mucosa. The proportion of patients immunopositive for p53 （PAb240） was significantly reduced 6 mo after eradication [28/42 （66.7%） to 6/42 （14.3%）] （P 〈 0.05）, while the biopsies taken from H pylori-negative patients showed no immunoreactivity for p53 （PAb240）. p53 （PAb240）-positive patients were divided into two groups by the number of positive cells detected： one with more than six positive cells per 10 gastric pits （group A, n = 12）, and the other with less than five positive cells per 10 gastric pits （group B, n = 30）. Atrophy scores in group A were significant higher than those in group B at the greater curvature of the antrum （group A： 2.00 ± 0.14 vs group B： 1.40 ± 0.15, P = 0.012）, the lesser curvature of the corpus （group A： 2.00 ± 0.21 vs group B： 1.07 ± 0.23, P = 0.017）, and the greater curvature of the corpus （group A： 1.20 ± 0.30 vs group B： 0.47 ±0.21, P = 0.031）. Group A showed significant higher intestinal metaplasia scores than group B only at the lesser curvature of the antrum （group A： 2.10 ± 0.41 vs group B： 1.12 ± 0.29, P = 0.035）. Most adults with auditory processing disorder(APD) often have trouble at work. It is possible that these listening problems in adults with APD influence their mental health. Thus, we have to take the subject's personality and mental status into consideration when supporting subjects with APD. However, studies on APD in adults are comparatively rare. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the relationships between the results of auditory tests, APD symptoms, and psychological status in subjects with APD. This study included 22 adults who complained of listening problems in everyday life, and they underwent auditory processing tests and were questioned regarding their psychological *** the results of the auditory processing tests, all subjects showed low scores on at least one test; therefore, they were suspected of having APD. Especially, the scores were low on the auditory memory test. Furthermore, subjects with APD show relatively similar psychological characteristics to each other. However, there was no significant relationship between the results of the auditory processing tests and psychological *** have to take notice of a subject's psychological state when they perceive their listening difficulties as a large-scale problem and feel anxious as a result. For this purpose, we should take psychological characteristics into consideration at the time of the medical examination interview before audio-psychological testing.

Progression of cancer is often associated with interactions between cancer cells and extracellular matrix(ECM) surrounding them. Increasing evidence has suggested that accumulation of hyaluronan(HA), a major component of ECM, provides a favorable microenvironment for cancer progression. Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma(PDAC) is characterized typically by a dense desmoplastic stroma with a large amount of HA, making this molecule as an attractive target for therapy. Several studies have shown efficacy of inhibitors of HA synthesis or signaling for the treatment of PDAC. Recent studies have also demonstrated substantial improvements in the effects of chemotherapy by a targeted depletion of stromal HA in PDAC using an enzymatic agent. Thus, targeting HA has been recognized as a promising therapeutic strategy to treat this highly aggressive neoplasm. In this review article, we summarize our current understanding of the role of HA in the progression of PDAC and discuss possible therapeutic approaches targeting HA.

Nutrient loadings from upstream watersheds can have significant impacts on the water quality of receiving water ***,a major river is selected as the target for water quality studies,and the impact of minor rivers tends to be *** is very important to evaluate whether the impact of small rivers on the downstream water quality is *** water sampling and discharge modeling using SWAT were used to analyze the contribution of small rivers to water quality in a receiving *** this analysis,it was determined that the inflowing total nitrogen(TN)and total phosphorus(TP)concentrations from all target rivers exceeded the lake water environmental standards set by the Ministry of the *** contribution of suspended sediment(SS)and TN loads from small rivers did not vary markedly compared with their relative discharge contributions to the lake,at approximately 20%.However,the impact on TP loads to the lake from small rivers was 9.1%higher than their relative flow contributions,accounting for 28.2% of the TP ***,there is a potential to underestimate the impact of ungauged small rivers if only the major river is selected to evaluate the downstream lake water quality.

The fate of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons （PAHs） residing in the atmosphere has received enormous attention in recent years due to their mutagenic and carcinogenic risks on human health. In this context, the stability of pyrene （as a representative PAHs） on quartz, alumina, montmorillonite, kaolinite, humic acid and quartz coated with sorbed humic acid was investigated at controlled relative humidity （RH： i.e. 5% and 30%） without light irradiation in order to detect the presence of catalytic effect of mineral surface on PAHs decomposition. The stability of pyrene was found to depend strongly on the physicochemical properties of the substrates. Quartz showed a strong catalytic effect for the decomposition of pyrene even though it was coated with sorbed humic acid. Pyrene sorbed on montmorillonite and humic acid remained stable during the experimental period （i.e. 3 days）. Moisture in the experimental cell also affected the stability of pyrene in particular minerals. Especially, pyrene sorbed on alumina was rapidly decomposed at higher RH. However, there were almost no effect in the case of quartz, kaolinite and humic acid. Depending on the physicochemical properties of aerosols and RH, PAHs associated with minerals in the atmosphere would be decomposed and/or stably reside in the atmosphere.

BACKGROUND Although cyclophosphamide(CPA)is the key drug for the treatment of autoimmune diseases including vasculitides,it has some well-known adverse effects,such as myelosuppression,hemorrhagic cystitis,infertility,and ***,CPA-associated severe enteritis is a rare adverse effect,and only one case with a lethal clinical course has been ***,the appropriate management of patients with CPA-associated severe enteritis is *** SUMMARY We present the case of a 61-year-old woman diagnosed with granulomatosis with polyangiitis based on the presence of symptoms in ear,lung,and,kidney with positive myeloperoxidase-antineutrophil cytoplasmic *** received pulsed methylprednisolone followed by prednisolone 55 mg/d and intravenous CPA at a dose of 500 mg/*** days after the second course of intravenous CPA,she developed nausea,vomiting,and diarrhea,and was admitted to the *** testing revealed hypoalbuminemia,suggesting proteinlosing *** tomography revealed wall thickening of the stomach,small intestine,and colon with contrast enhancement on the lumen *** and immunosuppressive therapy were not effective,and the patient’s enteritis did not improve for>4 *** her condition became seriously exhausted,corticosteroids were tapered and supportive therapies including intravenous hyperalimentation,replenishment of albumin and gamma globulin,plasma exchange,and infection control were *** supportive therapies improved her condition,and her enteritis gradually *** was finally discharged 7 mo *** Immediate discontinuation of CPA and intensive supportive therapy are crucial for the survival of patients with CPA-associated severe enteritis.

Rheumatoid arthritis （RA） is characterized as a chronic inflammatory disease in joints and concomitant destruction of cartilage and bone. Cartilage extracellular matrix components, such as type Ⅱ collagen and aggrecan are enzymatically degraded by matrix metalloproteinases （MMPs） and aggrecanases in RA. Currently, treatments targeting cytokines, including anti-tumor necrosis factor （TNF） α antibodies, soluble TNF receptor, anti-interleukin （IL）-6 receptor antibody, and IL-1 receptor antagonist, are widely used for treating RA in addition to anti- inflammatory agents and disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs （DMARDs）, such as methotrexate, but these treatments have some problems, especially in terms of cost and the increased susceptibility of patients to infection in addition to the existence of Iow-responders to these treatments. Therefore, therapeutics that can be safely used for an extended period of time would be preferable. Complementary and alternativemedicines including traditional Chinese medicines （TCM） have been used for the arthritic diseases through the ages. Recently, there are many reports concerning the anti-arthritic action mechanisms of TCM-based herbal formulas and crude herbal extracts or isolated ingredients. These natural herbal medicines are thought to moderately improve RA, but they exert various actions for the treatment of RA. In this review, the current status of the mechanism exploration of natural compounds and TCM-based herbal formulas are summarized, focusing on the protection of cartilage destruction in arthritic diseases including RA and osteoarthritis.

Nitrogen and/or carbon doped titania photocatalysts were prepared by a novel mechanochemical method. The prepared powders possessed two absorption edges around 400 and 540 nm wavelengths and showed excellent photocatalytic ability for nitrogen monoxide oxidation under visible light irradiation. Under the irradiation of visible light of wavelength >510 nm,37% of nitrogen monoxide could be continuously removed by the carbon and nitrogen co-doped titania prepared by planetary ball milling of P-25 titania–10% hexamethylenetetramine mixture followed by calcination in air at 400-C.
