BACKGROUND Preoperative neoadjuvant chemoradiation therapy(NACRT)is applied for resectable pancreatic cancer(RPC).To maximize the efficacy of NACRT,it is essential to ensure the accurate placement of fiducial markers for image-guided ***,no standard method for delivering fiducial markers has been established to date,and the nature of RPC during NACRT remains *** To determine the feasibility,safety and benefits of endoscopic ultrasound-guided(EUS)fiducial marker placement in patients with *** This was a prospective case series of 29 patients(mean age,67.5 years;62.1%male)with RPC referred to our facility for *** EUS guidance,a single gold marker was placed into the tumor using either a 19-or 22-gauge fine-needle aspiration *** differences in daily marker positioning were measured by comparing simulation computed tomography and treatment computed *** In all 29 patients(100%)who underwent EUS fiducial marker placement,fiducials were placed successfully with only minor,self-limiting bleeding during puncture observed in 2 patients(6.9%).NACRT was subsequently administered to all patients and completed in 28/29(96.6%)cases,with one patient experiencing repeat *** migration of gold markers was observed in 1 ***-four patients(82.8%)had surgery with 91.7%(22/24)R0 resection,and two patients experienced complete *** inflammatory changes around the marker were observed in the surgical *** daily position of gold markers showed large positional changes,particularly in the superior-inferior ***,tumor location was affected by food and fluid intake as well as bowel gas,which changes *** EUS fiducial marker placement following NACRT for RPC is feasible and *** RPC is mobile and is affected by not only aspiration,but also food and fluid intake and bowel condition.

Development of an Accurate Urban Modeling System Using CAD/GIS Data for Atmosphere Environmental Simulation

This paper presents an urban modeling system using CAD/GIS data for atmosphere environmental simulation, such as wind flow and contaminant spread in urban area. The CAD data is used for the shape modeling for the high-storied buildings and civil structures with complicated shape since the data for that is not included in the 3D-GIS data accurately. The unstructured mesh based on the tetrahedron element is employed in order to express the urban structures with complicated shape accurately. It is difficult to understand the quality of shape model and mesh by the conventional visualization technique. In this paper, the stereoscopic visualization using virtual reality (VR) technology is employed for the verification of the quality of shape model and mesh. The present system is applied to the atmosphere environmental simulation in urban area and is shown to be an useful planning and design tool to investigate the atmosphere environmental problem.

Strength evaluation of ultra-high strength steels and spot weld of automotive bodies

Cockcrofi-Latham fracture criterion was applied to predict the fracture of high strength steels. A Marciniak-type biaxial stretching test of the four classes of high strength steels was carried out to measure the material damage limit of Cockcrofi-Latham fracture criterion. Furthermore, in order to improve the simulation accuracy, the local anisotropic parameters depending on the plastic strain （strain dependent model of anisotropy ） were measured by digital image correlation method and incorporated into Hill＇ s anisotropic yield condition by authors. To confirm the validity of Cockcrofi-Latham fracture criterion, the uniaxial tensile tests based on JIS No. 5 tensile specimen were performed. The force-displacement history and fracture happening strokes were predicted with high accuracy. Then, Cockcrofi-Latham fracture criterion was applied to predict the failure of four types of spot welded joints. To simulate the local bending and warping deformations around the heataffected zone, the discrete Kirchhoff triangle element was adapted. FEM results for four classes of high strength steels and four types of spot welded joints had a good correlation with experimental ones.

Present status and recent advances in living donor liver transplantation for malignant hepatic tumors

BACKGROUND: Living donor liver transplantation (LDLT) has been increasingly used to treat hepatic tumors worldwide in recent years, and is currently the most effective alternative to deceased donor liver transplantation to overcome the problem of organ shortage. LDLT has played an enormous role in treating early malignant hepatic tumors. But the indication of LDLT for malignant hepatic tumors is based on indefinite criteria. This review summarizes the recent studies in LDLT for treating malignant hepatic tumors. DATA SOURCES: A literature research of the PubMed database was conducted and research articles were reviewed. RESULTS: The current data on LDLT for malignant hepatic tumors, combined with our hospital experience, indicated that if a patient with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) who meets with the conventional Milan criteria cannot undergo tumor resection because of poorly preserved liver function, and a cadaveric graft is difficult to obtain within six months, LDLT may be selected. In a patient with recurrence of HCC after conventional therapies, feasibility, optimal timing, and efficacy of LDLT as a second-line treatment should be determined. CONCLUSIONS: Tumor recurrence is related to the biological behavior and staging of the tumor. New immunosuppressors which have anti-tumor effects and inhibit the immune system need to be developed. The indications of LDLT for hepatic malignant tumors should be selected meticulously.
