Extremely low lattice thermal conductivity is always the pursuit of thermoelectric materials *** this work,we reported an exceptional effect of Ag2S addition in MnTe,an emerging promising midtemperature thermoelectric material,to enable the realization of minimum lattice thermal conductivity,namely-0.4 Wm^(-1) K^(-1).Such a low lattice thermal conductivity is guaranteed by the incorporation of in-situ formed Ag rich phase(Ag2Te)with ultralow lattice thermal conductivity and further scattering of phonons from the partial doping effects induced point defects and boundaries between various *** from the dramatically decreased lattice thermal conductivity,the partial doping of Ag and S simultaneously enhance the electrical conductivity,further contributing to enhanced thermoelectric ***,an inverse sign of Seebeck and Hall coefficient was observed and rationalized by the influence of highly electron-conductive Ag_(2)Te *** to the synergetic modulation of electrical and thermal transport properties by in-situ formed composite,a high ZT value of 1.1 was achieved in MnTe based thermoelectric materials,which also demonstrates the importance of compositing approaches to design state-of-the-art thermoelectric materials.

AIM： To study the regulatory mechanisms of sinusoida regeneration after partial hepatectomy. METHODS： We invesldgated the expression of angiopoietin （Ang）-1, Ang-2, Tie-2, and vascular endothelial growth factor （VEGF） in regenerating liver tissue by quantitative reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction （RT- PCR） using a LightCycler （Roche Diagnostics） and also immunohistochemical staining after 70% hepatectomy in rats. In the next step, we isolated liver cells （hepatocytes, sinusoidal endothelial cell （SEC）, Kupffer cell, and hepatic stellate cells （HSC）） from regenerating liver tissue by in situ collagenase perfusion and counterflow elutriation, to determine potential cellular sources of these angiogenic factors after hepatectomy. Proliferation and apoptosis of SECs were also evaluated by proliferating cell nuclear antigen （PCNA） staining and the terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase d-uridine triphosphate nick end labeling （TUNEL） assay, respectively. RESULTS： VEGF mRNA expression increased with a peak at 72 h after hepatectomy, decreasing thereafter. The expression of Ang-1 mRNA was present at detectable levels before hepatectomy and increased slowly with a peak at 96 h. Meanwhile, Ang-2 mRNA was hardly detected before hepatectomy, but was remarkably induced at 120 and 144 h. In isolated cells, VEGF mRNA expression was found mainly in the hepatocyte fraction. Meanwhile, mRNA for Ang-1 and Ang-2 was found in the SEC and HSC fractions, but was more prominent in the latter. The PCNA labeling index of SECs increased slowly, reaching a peak at 72 h, whereas apoptotic SECs were detected between 120 h and 144 h. CONCLUSION： Ang-Tie system, together with VEGF, plays a critical role in regulating balance between SEC proliferation and apoptosis during sinusoidal regeneration after hepatectomy. However, the VEGF system plays a more important role in the early phase of sinusoidal regeneration than angiopoietin/Tie system.

Impaired liver function attenuates liver regeneration and hypertrophy after portal vein embolization

AIM To clarify the clinical factors associated with liver regeneration after major hepatectomy and the hypertrophic rate after portal vein embolization(PVE).METHODS A total of 63 patients who underwent major hepatectomy and 13 patients who underwent PVE in a tertiary care hospital between January 2012 and August 2015 were included in the *** calculated the remnant liver volume following hepatectomy using contrast-enhanced computed tomography(CT) performed before and approximately 3-6 mo after ***,we calculated the liver volume using CT performed 2-4 wk after *** patient characteristics and laboratory data were analyzed to identify factors affecting postoperative liver regeneration or hypertrophy rate following *** The remnant liver volume/total liver volume ratio negatively correlated with the liver regeneration rate after hepatectomy(ρ =-0.850,P < 0.001).The regeneration rate was significantly lower in patients with an indocyanine green retention rate at 15 min(ICG-R15) of ≥ 20% in the right hepatectomy group but not in the left hepatectomy *** hypertrophic rate after PVE positively correlated with the regeneration rate after hepatectomy(ρ = 0.648,P = 0.017).In addition,the hypertrophic rate after PVE was significantly lower in patients with an ICG-R15 ≥ 20% and a serum total bilirubin ≥ 1.5 mg/d *** The regeneration rate after major hepatectomy correlated with hypertrophic rate after *** of them were attenuated in the presence of impaired liver function.

Dear Editor,Most of the plant hormones found in flowering plants contribute to growth regulation in the moss Physcomitrella patens. This moss does not produce gibberellin （GA）（Figure 1A）. An ent-kaurene synthase （PpCPS/KS） and an ent-kaurene oxidase （PpKO） have been identified in P. patens, but in contrast to flowering plants, P. patens has no ent-kaurenoic acid oxidase （KAO） homologs （Hayashi et al., 2010; miyazaki et al., 2011, Fiqure 1A）.

In comparison to a carbohydrate-rich breakfast, a nutritionally balanced breakfast reportedly leads to a higher core body temperature because of diet-induced thermogenesis (DIT) and also results in higher task performance. This study aimed to examine the relationships among the core body temperature, blood glucose level, cerebral blood flow, and cognitive performance when the core body temperature is raised to a similar extent as in DIT in the morning. This crossover study included 18 male participants who performed four sets of cognitive tests in the morning with four different foot baths and glucose intake conditions. In elevated body temperature (EBT) conditions, the core body temperature was increased by a foot bath at 42˚C or 39˚C, while in low body temperature (LBT) conditions, it was maintained at 35˚C by a foot bath;the participants received no glucose or two intakes of 20-g glucose for each thermal condition. In addition to the core body temperature measurement, the cerebral blood flow in the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) was measured using near-infrared spectroscopy. Three blood collections were performed to measure the changes in blood glucose levels. The results revealed that in the EBT conditions, the core body temperature remained 0.3˚C - 0.5˚C higher than that at wake-up time, while the glucose intake conditions increased blood glucose levels which remained higher than those during fasting. No significant between-treatment difference was observed in the results of cognitive tests. However, the blood flow in the DLPFC increased during the second test period in the EBT/glucose and LBT/glucose conditions, whereas during the fourth test period, it increased solely in the EBT/glucose condition. Thus, in addition to the blood glucose level, an elevated core body temperature within the physiological range may be needed for long-term maintenance of the cerebral blood flow response.

＜正＞As a problem how to preserve a historic urban district along with the dweller’s livings, the author discusses the availabilities and the issues in the system for Important Preservation District for Groups of Historic Buildings （hereinafter ’IPDGHB’） which was established by the amendment of the Law for the Protection of the Cultural Properties in 1975. Using a case study approach, Kita-district in Miyama-cho, Kyoto was investigated. Kita-district was selected as IPDGHB in 1993. Landscape transformation was examined in Kita-district, before and after the designation, at some aspects of building existence, building roof materials, building use, and land uses. As a result, various kinds of changes were observed in Kita-district. It can be said that the original aim of the system for IPDGHB was preserving the traditional environment, however, it has brought the district some other environmental changes creating tourism. With the present the conflict system of IPDGHB, the total and sustainable ways of conservation have to be investigated.

Microcapsules containing the aqueous solution of Azur B of a water soluble dye were prepared with the melting dispersion cooling method and applied to the amplification detector of plant DNA. Paraffin wax with melting temperature of 75°C was used as the shell material. In the experiment, the aqueous solution (W) of Azur B as the core material was dispersed in the melted paraffin wax (O) to form the (W/O) emulsion and then, the (W/O) emulsion was dispersed in the silicon oil (O’) as the continuous phase to form the (W/O)/O’ emulsion at 85°C. After formation of the (W/O)/O’ emulsion, the microcapsules were prepared by cooling the (W/O)/O’ emulsion to 50°C. The microcapsules were prepared by changing the concentration of oil soluble surfactant in the (W/O) emulsion and the volume of the (W/O) emulsion in the (W/O)/O’ emulsion. The microencapsulation efficiency increased with the concentration of oil soluble surfactant and finally became 100% under the optimum conditions. Furthermore, the microcapsules were melted down at temperature of 85°C to reveal the sharp thermal responsibility and to release the aqueous solution of Azur B. As a result, it was found that the microcapsules were able to be applied to the amplification detector of plant DNA by utilizing the reaction between DNA and Azur B.
