＜正＞Kaki （Japanese persimmon;Diospyros kaki） is one of the most familiar fruit trees in Japan. It has been frequently planted in house gardens since the ancient times. Kinoshita （2000） suggested that the most often planted edible tree that we can see today in residential area in Tokyo is kaki.1’’ In addition, kaki and a landscape with kaki tend to be connected with a nostalgic image of an autumn rural landscape. In this respect, a landscape with kaki can be seen as a Japanese "prototype-landscape." The point we have to focus on here is that common image and feeling about kaki are shared among the Japanese. It is due to our "landscape perception", a common "way of seeing" shared in a specific social group. Landscape perception is expected to change depending on various social backgrounds. This study considers how our landscape perception has been changed by analyzing the representation of kaki as an expression of landscape. Two genres of Japanese poetry, waka and haiku, are selected as analysis objects of the representation of kaki. We extracted waka and haiku containing the word "kaki" and analyzed how kaki is treated as the subject expressing the landscape, taking into consideration the character of waka and haiku. Until the early Edo era （the 17th century）, kaki and a landscape with it had rarely been composed in waka. It is because kaki had been regarded as unrefined and countrified, and the unsuitable subject for waka. In the Edo era, not only the high educated class but also general urban people had been involved in cultural activities. As cultural importance had been shifted from waka to haiku, the subjects which had not been treated, such as kaki, appeared in the cultural activities which began in the Edo era. Kaki had been composed in haiku more often than in waka. Moreover, descriptions of kaki in haiku had been more various and detailed than waka. High pressure and large flow rate small-sized cooling fans are used for servers in data centers and there is a strong demand to increase its performance because of increase of quantity of heat from servers. Contra-rotating rotors have been adopted for some of high pressure and large flow rate cooling fans to meet the demand. The performance curve of the contra-rotating small-sized cooling fan with 40 mm square casing was investigated by an experimental apparatus and its internal flow condition was clarified by the numerical analysis. The fan static pressure of the front rotor was extremely low and it increased significantly at the rear rotor. The uniform flow was achieved at the inlet of the rear rotor because of the special shape of the casing between the front and rear rotors. On the other hand, the tip leakage flow was large enough to influence on the main flow of the test cooling fan by the design specification of high pressure with compact rotor diameter.

Contra-rotating small-sized fans are used as cooling fans for electric equipment. The internal flow condition between the front and rear rotors of the contra-rotating small-sized fan is not known well especially at the low flow rate. Furthermore, the blade row distance between the front and rear rotors is an important parameter for the contra-rotating small-sized fan and its influence on the internal flow condition is not clarified at the low flow rate. Therefore, the internal flow condition of the contra-rotating small-sized fan at the low flow rate is investigated by the numerical analysis in this research. The numerical analysis results are validated by comparing the fan static pressure curves of the numerical results to the experimental results. The internal flow condition at the low flow rate is clarified using the numerical models of the different blade row distance L = 10 mm and 30 mm. In the present paper, pressure fluctuations phase locked each front and rear rotor’s rotation are shown and the influences of the wake and the potential interference are discussed by the unsteady numerical analysis results at the low flow rate.

Clinical differentiation of acute appendicitis and right colonic diverticulitis: A case-control study

BACKGROUND Acute right colonic diverticulitis (ARCD) is an important differential diagnosis of acute appendicitis (AA) in Asian countries because of the unusually high prevalence of right colonic diverticula. Due to qualitative improvement and the high penetration rate of computed tomography (CT) scanning in Japan, differentiation of ARCD and AA mainly depends on this modality. But cost, limited availability, and concern for radiation exposure make CT scanning problematic. Differential findings of ARCD from AA are based on several small studies that used univariate comparisons from Korea and Taiwan. Previous studies on clinical and laboratory differences between AA and ARCD are limited. AIM To determine clinical differences between AA and ARCD for differentiation of these two diagnoses by creating a logistic regression model. METHODS We performed an exploratory single-center retrospective case-control study evaluating 369 Japanese patients (age ≥ 16 years), 236 (64.0%) with AA and 133 (36.0%) with ARCD, who were hospitalized between 2012 and 2016. Diagnoses were confirmed by CT images. We compared age, sex, onset-to-visit interval, epigastric/periumbilical pain, right lower quadrant (RLQ) pain, nausea/vomiting, diarrhea, anorexia, medical history, body temperature, blood pressure, heart rate, RLQ tenderness, peritoneal signs, leukocyte count, and levels of serum creatinine, serum C-reactive protein (CRP), and serum alanine aminotrans-ferase. While micronuclei (MN) store extranuclear DNA and cause genome instability, the effects of nuclear envelope (NE) assembly defects associated with MN on genome instability remain largely unknown. Here, we investigated the NE protein distribution in MN using HeLa human cervical cancer cells. Under the standard condition and two pharmacological culture conditions, we found that three types of NE protein assemblies were associated with MN: 1) intact NE assembly, in which both core and non-core NE proteins were evenly present;2) type I assembly, in which only core NE proteins were detectable;and 3) type II assembly in which a region deficient for both core and non-core NE proteins existed and a pattern recognition receptor, cyclic guanosine monophos-phate-adenosine monophosphate synthase, was frequently detected. Our findings provide experimental settings and a method of grouping MN-associated NE defects, which may be helpful for researchers who are interested in regulation of genome and nuclear organization relevant to cancer development.

Periodontal disease is recognized as a risk factor for cardiovascular disease (CVD). Some studies have suggested that serum lipids might play a role in the association between periodontal disease and CVD. However, this hypothesis remains unproven. Present study evaluated the association between periodontal disease and CVD-related parameters including electrocardiographic (ECG) parameters and serum lipid levels in the elderly. This study was a prospective cohort study. A total of 107 subjects (57 males and 50 females) from Niigata City’s community-dwelling elderly (all aged 75 years old) who possessed at least 20 teeth and did not exhibit ECG abnormalities at the baseline underwent annual examinations for 5 years. Logistic regression analysis was used to assess the relationship between periodontal condition and the presence of ECG abnormalities, after adjusting for confounding factors including serum lipid levels. Logistic regression analysis showed that the subjects who exhibited a poor periodontal condition at the baseline had a 2.97 times greater risk of suffering from ECG abnormalities than the subjects who displayed a good periodontal condition at the baseline (p = 0.019). Furthermore, the subjects who displayed a poor periodontal condition and an unfavorable serum lipid profile at the baseline showed a significantly higher frequency of ECG abnormalities (63.6%) than those who exhibited a healthy periodontal condition and a favorable serum lipid profile (21.6%, p = 0.008) as well as those who displayed a healthy periodontal condition and an unfavorable serum lipid profile (21.4%, p = 0.010). As a conclusion, periodontal condition could be a marker of CVD, even in the healthy elderly.

根据22头日本三陆沿岸白胸拟鼠海豚的检测结果,研究了必需元素铁在13种组织和器官中的蓄积特征。肺、肝脏和脾脏中铁的浓度显著高于其它脏器,铁在皮肤和鲸脂中的浓度却非常低。研究发现,鲸类肝脏中铁的平均浓度与其最大潜水持续时间有着极其显著的正相关(y=285.17x0.5267;r2=0.92;y:a肝脏中铁的平均浓度,单位为μg·g-1干重;x:最大潜水持续时间,单位为min)。利用该关系式,首次推测白胸拟鼠海豚的最大潜水持续时间为11.85min。
