The objective of this study was to identify the critical success factors (CSFs) to lim.t constructability issues on a net-zero energy hom., in an effort to enhance sustainability and increase com.etitiveness in the residential construction industry. An extensive literature review was conducted to determ.ne com.on constructability issues and to com.ile success factors identified previously by other researchers for traditional hom. construction. The CSFs were then narrowed to a group of thirteen CSFs unique to net-zero energy hom. construction. This fram.work of net-zero energy CSFs was supported by a case study of a net-zero energy hom. under construction in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Through the use of observational research on this hom., the im.ortance of each CSF was defined, and their contributions to a net-zero energy hom. was discussed based on evidence from.the case study. CSFs and constructability issues identified in this research will assist the residential construction sector’s continued effort to reduce energy use, enhance conservation, and prom.te sustainability through the support of net-zero energy residential construction. CSFs will prom.te sustainability by increasing the ease and efficiency of the design and construction of net zero energy hom.s which will in return m.ke the hom.s m.re cost efficient to build and an affordable option for hom. buyers.

Coronal plane alignm.nt in total knee arthroplasty(TKA)is an im.ortant predictor of clinical outcom.s including patient satisfaction and device *** and com.uter assisted navigation are the two prim.ry technologies currently available to surgeons for intraoperative assessm.nt of alignm.nt;however,neither is particularly well-suited for use in this increasingly high volum. *** we propose a novel gyroscopebased instrum.nt for intraoperative validation of tibia coronal plane alignm.nt,and provide initial analytical and experim.ntal perform.nce *** gyroscope-based alignm.nt estim.te is derived from.sim.lified joint geom.try and verified experim.ntally using a custom.tibial trial insert containing a consum.r-grade inertial m.asurem.nt unit(Im.).Average accuracy of the gyroscope-based tibia coronal angle estim.te was found to be within1in m.chanical leg jig and cadaver *** results indicate that the proposed gyroscope-based m.thod shows prom.se for low cost,accurate intraoperative validation of lim. alignm.nt in TKA ***grating Im. technology into the TKA surgical workflow via low-cost instrum.ntation will enable surgeons to easily validate im.lant alignm.nt in real tim.,thereby reducing cost,operating room.tim.,and future revision burden.

Growing consum.r interest in distributed Building Integrated Photovoltaic (BIPV) System. and industry com.etition to reduce installation costs are stim.lating the developm.nt of deploying these m.terials to the residential sector of the building industry. This em.rging m.rket continues to attract the attention of m.ny stakeholders, yet cohesive opportunities to deploy in residential sectors, specifically detached single-fam.ly dwellings, is scattered. As a result, this study of literature and im.lem.ntation strategies through sim.le exam.les looks to identify several characteristics related to BIPV. Characteristics that were studied in this initial pilot study were design considerations for system.selection, applicability to residential construction, and system.and m.terial options and enhancem.nts. A case-study hom. was analyzed dem.nstrating opportunity for im.lem.ntation of BIPV on an existing residence. Strategies for m.xim.zing the energy-generating capacity of the system.to achieve net-zero energy perform.nce, including all building surfaces and landscaping were also explored. This body of work provides a state-of-the-art review on com.on m.terials as well as the m.re custom.zable types.

To contribute to the reduction of m.thane em.ssions,using low-cost biochar as adsorbents for capturing and storing m.thane in oil and gas fields is *** work presents results of m.thane adsorption on four biochars m.de from.forestry wastes in com.arison with the results of three com.ercial activated *** the adsorption capacity of the biochars is lower by over 50%than that of the activated carbons,thelow-cost and potential environm.ntal benefits provide the incentive to the ***,it is shown that biochar can store m.re m.thane than vessels of com.ressed gas up to the pressure of 75 bar,suggesting the possibility of avoiding high-pressure gas com.ression and heavy vessels for cost savings in oil and gas *** therm.dynam.c and kinetic behaviors of the adsorption are studied and im.lications for the targeted application are discussed.
