Thermal transformation of acid compounds in high TAN crude oil

The Liaohe crude oil with high total acid number (TAN) was subjected to thermal reaction at 300℃to 500℃. Reaction products were collected and analyzed by negative-ion electrospray ionization Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry (ESI FT-ICR MS) to determine acid compounds in the crude oil. The double-bond equivalence (DBE) versus carbon number was used to characterize the oxygenated components in the feed and reaction products. The O2 class which mainly corresponds to naphthenic acids decarboxylated at 350-400℃, resulting in a sharply decrease in TAN. Phenols (O1 class) are more thermally stable than carboxylic acids. Carboxylic acids were also thermally cracked into smaller molecular size acids, evidenced by the presence of acetic acid, propanoic acid, and butyric acid in the liquid product. These small acid species are strong acids likely responsible for corrosion problems in refineries.

Proeutectoid ferrite with carbon content xo precipitating from austenite in a multicomponent steel at temperature T is supposed to be equivalent to proeutectoid ferrite with the same carbon content precipitating from austenite in Fe-C binary system at temperature T'.is described as the temperature difference of proeutectiod ferrite formation, and can be calculated from the Fe-X diagrams and the equilibrium temperature A3. By introducing Tf and basing on the thermodynamic model for Fe-C binary alloy, the driving force for phase transformation from austenite to proeutectoid ferrite in multicomponent steels has been successfully calculated. Through the Johnson-Mehl equation and using the data hem known TTT diagrams, the relationship between the chemical composition and the intedecial edenly packeter as well as activation energy for proeutectoid ferrite formation can be calculated. The starting curves of proeutectoid ferritic transformation calculated in this way in some hypo-proeutectoid structural steels agree well with the erperimental data.

Background:Leber’s hereditary Optic Neuropathy(LhON;MIM 535000)is one of the most commonly inherited optic neuropathies and it results in significant visual morbidity among young adults with a peak age of onset between the ages of 15–*** worldwide incidence of LhON is approximately 1 in 31,000.95%of LhON patients will have one of 3 primary mitochondrial mutations,G3460A(A52T of ND1),G11778A(R340h of ND4)and T14484C(M64V of ND6).There is incomplete penetrance and a marked gender bias in the development of visual morbidity with approximately 50%of male carriers and 10%of female carriers developing optic *** recovery can occur but is dependent on the mutation present with the highest level of visual recovery seen in patients who have the T14484C *** 3 primary mutations are typically identified by individual end-point PCR-restriction fragment length polymorphism(RFLP)or individual targeted bi-directional Sanger sequencing *** purpose of this study was to design a simple multiplex PCR-RFLP that could detect these 3 primary LhON mutations in one ***:PCR primers were designed to incorporate a MaeIII restriction site in the presence of 3460A and 14484C mutations with the 11778A mutation naturally incorporating a MaeIII site.A multiplex PCR-RFLP assay was developed to detect the 3 common mutations in a single *** LhON controls based on the mitochondrial genome harbouring the 3 common mutations were synthesized and cloned into plasmids to act as reliable assay *** from previously tested patients and the synthetic LhON controls were subjected to the multiplex PCR-RFLP *** RFLP products were detected by agarose gel ***:The novel PCR-RFLP assay accurately detects the 3 primary mutations both in patient DNA and in synthesized DNA control samples with a simple visual mutation detection *** synthesized DNA was demonstrated to be a robust control for the detection of LhON Mutations

Yellow Urticaria in a Patient with Liver Disease

Background: Yellow urticaria is a rarely reported phenomena that occurs in patients with hyperbilirubinemia that suffer an episode of urticarial rash. A variety of insidious etiologies of hyperbilirubinemia have been reported in cases of yellow urticaria making it an opportunity to catch serious liver or biliary disease early in its course. Case Report: We report a case of yellow urticaria that occurred in a 67-year-old male suffering from end-stage liver disease after he had received a transfusion of fresh frozen plasma. Physical examination and thorough history collection allowed the determination of the proper diagnosis and guided further clinical care. Conclusion: An occurrence of yellow urticaria necessitates that the clinician finds two diagnoses: the cause of hyperbilirubinemia, and the cause of urticaria. While striking in appearance, yellow urticaria may be most clinically significant when it prompts recognition of previously unknown hepatic or biliary pathology.
