ng>Introduction:ng> The health and assistance crisis generated by the SARS-CoV2 pandemic has been a serious health problem and a major disruption to the general population, specifically to the most vulnerable groups as cancer patients. This situation is forcing health professionals to face and take on major challenges to maintain the necessary care. Aim: The main objective of this study is to maintain specialized psychological care for oncology patientsn>, and in addition, to describe the principal psychological difficulties of our series of cases. Methods: Before the alarm state in Spain, the therapy was changed from face-to-face to telephone attendance and an e-mail account was opened for specific consultations in which a psycho-oncologist was present in GenesisCare Spain. The psychological interventions carried out during this time have had two characteristics: n>1) Cognitive-behavioral therapeutic framework 2) Targeted and specific interventions on issues associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. Results: From March 10 to April 30 (8 weeks)n>, patients and families have been attended to by 2.5 senior psycho-oncologists. A total of 369 psychological services have been attended in Spain in 142 patients. The number of services per patient has ranged from 1 to 4. The median of the long consultation has been 45 minutes. Purpose: This epidemiological retrospective survey aims to provide population-based estimates of the burden of hospitalisation for herpes zoster ophthalmicus in Spain during a twelve-year period (1997-2008). Methods: All hospital discharges and deaths related to herpes zoster ophthalmicus in patients older than 30 years old from 1997 to 2008 in Spain were obtained. Differences in proportions were assessed by the Chi-square test. AnOVA was used for multiple comparisons. Poisson regression was used to assess differences in the rates. Results: A total of 3029 hospital discharges in patients older than 30 years old were coded as herpes zoster ophthalmicus. Of those, 1009 were coded as primary cause of hospitalization. This corresponds to a hospitalization rate of 0.94 and 0.31 hospitalizations per 100,000 for any position and first diagnostic position, respectively. The 75% of the total discharges were in immunocompetent patients. The herpes zoster ophthalmicus hospitalization rate increased significantly during the study period. This increase was also observed for immunocompetent patients. A total of 127 and 21 deaths occurred in patients ≥ 30 year-old hospitalized with herpes zoster ophthalmicus in any diagnostic position and principal diagnostic code, respectively during the 12-year study period. Of them, 70 (53.4%) were in immunocompetent patients, and, of those 11 were in patients with HZO in the first diagnosis position. The hospitalization rate and case-fatality rate increase significantly with age from 50 years old onwards. Conclusion: HZO, a vaccine preventable disease, still causes hospitalization and death in adults in Spain.

Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma(DLBCL)and follicular lymphoma(FL)are the most common forms of aggressive and indolent lymphoma,respectively.The majority of patients are cured by standard R-CHOP immunochemotherapy,but 30%–40%of DLBCL and 20%of FL patients relapse or are refractory(R/R).DLBCL and FL are phenotypically and genetically hereterogenous B-cell neoplasms.To date,the diagnosis of DLBCL and FL has been based on morphology,immunophenotyping and cytogenetics.However,next-generation sequencing(nGS)is widening our understanding of the genetic basis of the B-cell lymphomas.In this review we will discuss how integrating the nGS-based characterization of somatic gene mutations with diagnostic or prognostic value in DLBCL and FL could help refine B-cell lymphoma classification as part of a multidisciplinary pathology work-up.We will also discuss how molecular testing can identify candidates for clinical trials with targeted therapies and help predict therapeutic outcome to currently available treatments,including chimeric antigen receptor T-cell,as well as explore the application of circulating cell-free DnA,a non-invasive method for patient monitoring.We conclude that molecular analyses can drive improvements in patient outcomes due to an increased understanding of the different pathogenic pathways affected by each DLBCL subtype and indolent FL vs R/R FL.

Brucella suis is responsible for swine brucellosis worldwide.Of the five different B.suis biovars(bv.),bv.2 appears restricted to Europe where it is frequently isolated from wild boar and hares,can infect pigs and can cause human brucellosis.In this study,the differential gene expression profile was characterized in spleens of Eurasian wild boar naturally infected with B.suis bv.2.Of the 20,201 genes analyzed in the microarray,633 and 1,373 were significantly(fold change > 1.8;P nd downregulated,respectively,in infected wild boar.The analysis was focused on genes that were over represented after conditional test for biological process gene ontology.Upregulated genes suggested that B.suis bv.2 infection induced cell maturation,migration and/or proliferation in infected animals.The genes downregulated in infected wild boar impaired the activity of several important cellular metabolic pathways such as metabolism,cytoskeleton organization and biogenesis,immune response and lysosomal function and vesicle-mediated transport.In addition,the response to stress,sperm fertility,muscle development and apoptosis seemed to be also impaired in infected animals.These results suggested that B.suis bv.2 may use strategies similar to other smooth brucellae to facilitate intracellular multiplication and the development of chronic infections.To our knowledge,this is the first report of the analysis of gene expression profile in hosts infected with B.suis bv.2,which is important to understand the molecular mechanisms at the host-pathogen interface in the main reservoir species with possible implications in the zoonotic cycle of the pathogen.

Clinical trials have demonstrated that some patients with chronic myeloid leukemia(CML)treated for several years with tyrosine kinase inhibitors(TKIs)who have maintained a molecular response can successfully discontinue treatment without relapsing.Treatment free remission(TFR)can be reached by approximately 50%of patients who discontinue.Despite having similar levels of deep molecular response and an identical duration of treatment,the factors that influence the successful discontinuation of CML patients remain to be determined.In this review we will explore the factors identified to date that can help predict whether a patient will successfully achieve TFR.We will also discuss the need for the identification of predictive biomarkers associated with a high probability of achieving TFR for the future personalized identification of patients who are suitable for the discontinuation of TKI treatment.
