The search for functional foods with health benefits has increased,and yogurt represents one of these products due to their properties,such as,source of probiotics that favour the gastrointestinal system,contains vitamins,minerals and improves the action of enzymes.Present work investigated bromatological,microbiological,sensorial properties and shelf-life of different yogurt goat milk formulations with Aloe vera and natural sweeteners.The goat yogurt with 99.40%A.vera pulp and 0.60%S.rebaudiana presented the best nutritional composition,being suitable for human consumption representing an innovative product with a great functional potential.The synergy between the ingredients used in the yogurt processing resulted in an innovative product to the market.Goat milk has a lower cost per liter in comparison with cow milk,Aloe vera is accessible due to its fast-vegetative propagation,Stevia Rebaudiana has a great popularity for being a natural sweetener with no calories,and all these products are produced in México.

Isolation and Identification of Bacterial Endophytes from Grasses along the Oregon coast

Bacterial endophytes have been shown to improve abiotic and biotic stress responses in plants. Plants growing under harsh conditions along the Oregon coast could contain bacterial endophytes that improve persistence and growth of grasses in this environment. Thirty-four plants consisting of eight different species were collected along the Oregon coast from four different sites. Bacterial endophytes were isolated from root crown, stem and leaf tissues. A portion of the 16S rRNA ITS regions of each isolate was amplified, sequenced, and used to perform a BLAST search against the nucleotide database collection at National center for Biotechnology Information. One-hundred and thirty-three different bacterial isolates, ninety-four of which were unique, representing thirty-six different taxonomic groups were found. Over 50% of the total bacteria isolates were in just five taxonomic groups. Pseudomonads were the most predominant bacteria isolated, making up 20.3% of the total isolates, followed by curtobacterium and Microbacterium, each at 8.2%, Bacillus at 7.5% and Xanthomomas at 6%. Forty-seven percent (17 of 36) of the taxonomic groups contained only a single isolate. Fourteen bacterial isolates from five taxonomic groups, nine of which were from the genus Pseudomonas, were found to have 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylate (Acc) deaminase activity, an enzyme associated with improving plant growth under stress. These newly discovered bacterial endophytes will be a valuable biological resource to develop approaches to increase the yield and adaptability of grasses and other crops grown in diverse environments and to meet the challenges associated with an unpredictable climate.

Objective:To extract,quantify,and evaluate the phenolic content in Opuntia ficus-indica skin for their antioxidant capacity with three different methods(ABTS,DPPH,and lipid oxidation)and to optimize the extraction conditions[time,temperature and ethanol concentration)in a reflux system.Methods:The extraction process was done using a reflux system.A San cristobalⅡexperimental design with three variables and three levels was used.The variables evaluated were time of extraction(h),concentration of ethanol(%,v/v)and temperature(°c).The extraction process was optimized using a response surface methodology.Results:It was observed that at higher temperature more phenolic compounds were extracted,but the antioxidant capacity was decreased.The optimum conditions for phenolic compounds extraction and antioxidant capacity mixing the three methods were as Follows:45%of ethanol,80℃and 2 hours of extraction.Values obtained in our results are little higher that other previously reported.conclusions:It can he concluded the by-products of Opuntia ficus-indica represent a good source of natural antioxidants with possible applications in food,cosmetics or drugs industries.

Effects of cryofrequence on Localized Adiposity: case Study

cryofrequence is the combination of cryotherapy with radiofrequency, which promotes a “thermal shock” to the tissue, working simultaneously to skin flaccidity and localized adiposity. The efficacy of dermatological and hypodermic cryofrequency treatment was evaluated. This study reports the case of a 45-year-old woman with complaints of flaccidity and fat located in the infra-umbilical region in the preoperative period of abdominoplasty. The evaluation was performed before and after treatment through evaluation protocols, ultrasound examinations and histological findings through optic microscopy, microfocal and immunohistochemical analysis. The treatment was performed in 4 sessions, with a weekly application, using the BHS 156 FULL®—BODY HEALTH BRASIL®apparatus, the parameters were temperature of -10°c, power in 70%, duration of 8 minutes. After the surgical procedure, parts of treated and untreated abdominal tissues were removed for evaluation. In the tests performed, significant destruction of adipocytes was detected, with consequent reduction of fat and greater expression of caspase-3 in the treated tissue, being constated the macrophage increase by cD68 expression. There was improvement in flaccidity, evidenced by the significant increase in the number of fibroblasts and inflammatory cells positive for Ki67, bringing more quantity and better quality to the collagen.

Preliminary Validation of Transcutaneous cO<sub>2</sub>Monitoring in Patients Undergoing cardiac Ablation Using Jet Ventilation

Objectives: There is no data in the current medical literature on efficacy or accuracy of transcutaneous (tcPcO2) monitoring during jet ventilation for cardiac ablation. The use of tcPcO2 during cardiac ablation procedures offers the opportunity to compare end-tidal and transcutaneous methods of cO2 measurement before and after the use of the jet ventilation. comparison of these measurements with arterial blood gas cO2 levels allows evaluation of the accuracy of the tcPcO2 technique for use during jet ventilation. Design: Observational study;patients served as their own controls. Setting: cardiac electrophysiology laboratory. Participants: 15 adult patients (9 M), ASA III-IV, aged 26 to 82 years (median 66 years) undergoing radiofrequency ablation for atrial fibrillation. Interventions: Jet ventilation (JV) versus conventional ventilation. Measurements and Main Results: Paired measurements of end-tidal cO2 (EtcO2) and transcutaneous cO2 (tcPcO2) were recorded during periods of conventional ventilation. Paired measurements of arterial blood cO2 (PacO2) levels and tcPcO2 were recorded during JV. ABG samples were drawn at the anesthesiologist’s discretion to assess the patient’s respiratory status. The level of agreement between the three methods was compared using the Bland Altman plot. We found that tcPcO2 values consistently provided a close approximation to PacO2 levels. The mean difference between tcPcO2 and EtcO2 values in baseline and post-JV was on the order of 3 - 5 mmHg, with standard deviation of 4 - 6 mmHg. This is well within the range of variability that is accepted in clinical practice. conclusions: These preliminary results suggest that tcPcO2 provides an acceptable estimate of cO2 concentration in arterial blood during JV, as well as prior to and following JV.

MUc1, a tumor-associated antigen overexpressed in many carcinomas, represents a candidate of choice for cancer immunotherapy. Flagella-based MUc1 vaccines were tested in therapeutic setting in two aggressive breast cancer models, comprising the implantation of the 4T1-MUc1 cell line in either Balb/c, or Human MUc1 transgenic mice in which spontaneous metastases occurs. Recombinant flagella carrying only 7 amino acid of MUc1 elicited therapeutic activity, affecting both the growth of established growing tumors and the number of metastases. Higher therapeutic activity was achieved with an additional recombinant flagella designed with the SYFPEITHI algorithm. The vaccines triggered a Th1 response against MUc1 with no evident autoimmune response towards healthy MUc1-expressing tissues. Recombinant flagella carrying a 25-residue fragment of MUc1, induced the most effective response, as evidenced by a significant reduction of both the size and growth rate of the tumor as well as by the lower number of metastases, and expanding life span of vaccinated mice.

Snacking impacts the overall quality of dietary patterns, nutrition and health outcomes. Highly processed snack foods are normally unhealthy due to higher saturated fat content, refined grains (carbohydrates), and artificial ingredients. Snack product (re)formulation using plant-based wholesome ingredients has the potential to improve health effects including glycaemia, satiety responses, and lipid metabolism. Oat (Avena sativa L.) has gained increased popularity as a food item in recent decades due to its perceived or real health benefits, principally related to the bran content of oats. We have developed a healthier snack prototype using rolled oats as main ingredients. Other ingredients include oat bran, dried fruits, and nuts. For initial trials, these ingredients were combined in various combinations and composition to produce a formula having a good nutrient profile score (≤4) that meets the criteria of FSANZ for making health-related claims. The proportions of the ingredients in the formula were adjusted to enable higher fiber and protein contents. From the initial 10 combinations prepared, one prototype was selected based on four quality attributes (visual appearance, texture, taste, and water activity). The selected prototype was tested for glycemic index (n = 10) and consumer liking (n = 67). Our preliminary results demonstrated that the prototype has a low glycemic index,

Hepatocellular carcinoma with biliary and neuroendocrine differentiation: A case report

BAcKGROUND Liver tumors with dual differentiations[combined hepatocellular carcinoma(Hcc)and cholangiocarcinoma]are common.However,liver tumors that exhibit hepatocellular,biliary,and neuroendocrine differentiation are exceedingly rare,with only three previous case reports in the literature.cASE SUMMARY A 65-year-old female with a previous history of hepatitis c and a distant history of low grade,well-differentiated rectal neuroendocrine tumor was found to have two liver lesions in segment 4 and segment 7 on imaging.Serum alpha-fetoprotein and chromogranin A were elevated.Biopsy of the larger lesion in segment 4 revealed a high-grade tumor,with morphologic and immunohistochemical features of a neuroendocrine tumor.Given the previous history of rectal neuroendocrine tumor,imaging investigation,serologic markers,and biopsy findings,metastatic neuroendocrine tumor was considered.Subsequent regional resection of these hepatic lesions revealed the segment 4 lesion to be a Hcc with additional biliary and neuroendocrine differentiation and the segment 7 lesion to be a cholangiocarcinoma with neuroendocrine differentiation.Follow-up of the patient revealed disease recurrence in the dome of the liver and metastasis in retro-pancreatic lymph nodes.The patient eventually expired due to complications of chemotherapy.cONcLUSION Hcc cases with additional biliary and neuroendocrine differentiation are exceedingly rare,posing a diagnostic challenge for clinicians and pathologists.
