AIM:to prospectively explore the role of carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) in gallbladder bile in patients with colorectal carcinoma and the morphological and clinical features of neoplasia and the occurrence of hepatic metastases. MEtHODs:CEA levels in the gallbladder and peripheral blood were studied in 44 patients with colorectal carcinoma and 10 patients with uncomplicated *** samples were collected from the gallbladder bile and peripheral blood during the operation,immediately before extirpating the colorectal neoplasia or cholecystectomy. Values of up to 5 ng/ml were considered normal for bile and serum CEA. REsULts:In the 44 patients with colorectal carcinoma who underwent operation with curative intent,the average level of serum CEA was 8.5 ng/ml (range:0.1 to 111.0 ng/ ml) and for bile CEA it was 74.5 ng/ml (range:0.2 to 571.0 ng/ml).In the patients with uncomplicated cholelithiasis who underwent cholecystectomy,the average level of serum CEA was 2.9 ng/ml (range:1.0 to 3.5 ng/ml) and for bile CEA it was 1.2 ng/ml (range:0.3 to 2.9 ng/ml). the average duration of follow-up time was 16.5 months (range:6 to 48 months).Four patients who underwent extirpation of the colorectal carcinoma without evidence of hepatic metastasis and with an average bile CEA value of 213.2 ng/ml presented hepatic metastases between three and seventeen months after removal of the primary colorectal *** of them successfully underwent extirpation of the hepatic lesions. CONCLUsION:High CEA levels in gallbladders of patients undergoing curative operation for colorectal carcinoma may indicate the presence of hepatic *** patients must be followed up with special attention to the diagnosis of such lesions.

Dune barrier systems represent highly sought-after coastal landscapes for tourism and urban development around the world. However, a century ago, they were considered hazardous environments due to their great dynamic nature. As a result, stabilization practices were considered necessary. the systematic introduction of fast-growing exotic trees helped stabilize the sand, making it easier for tourism urbanization to take place, but also leading to erosion processes. this paper aims to assess long-term changes in vegetation cover over a large temperate barrier in Argentina. this complex region includes urban resorts, afforestation zones, and protected areas. A GIs-based geospatial analysis was conducted using a large satellite database(> 350 images), and the future evolution of the vegetation was modeled. the results revealed two primary spatiotemporal patterns associated with a gradual expansion of vegetation cover, accompanied by a concurrent reduction in sandy areas. In 1986, the dune area comprised 75% more surface than vegetation, whereas in 2021, it represented 60% less than vegetation. Furthermore, the 2050 scenario suggests a potential 40% reduction of dunes in certain areas. It is necessary to enhance management actions aimed at maintaining dune mobility and ensuring local and regional sediment balance. Long-term management strategies must focus on restoring native plant communities and controlling invasive species, and avoiding new dune fixation initiatives based on the introduction of exotic species.

this work was conducted to determine the practicability of using a new adsorbent 4-ethyl thiosemicarbazide intercalated, organophilic calcined hydrotalcite （EtsC-OHtC） for the removal of uranium （U（Ⅵ））, and thorium （th（Ⅳ）） from water and wastewater. the FtIR analysis helped in realizing the involvement of nitrogen and sulphur atoms of EtsC in binding the metal ions through complex formation. Parameters like adsorbent dosage, solution pH, initial metal ions concentration, contact time and ionic strength, that influence adsorption phenomenon, were studied. the optimum pH for maximum adsorption of U（VI） and th（IV） was found to be in the range 4.0-6.0. the contact time required for reaching equilibrium was 4 hr. the pseudo second-order kinetic model was the best fit to represent the kinetic data. Analysis of the equilibrium adsorption data using Langmuir, Freundlich and sips models showed that the Freundlich model was well suited to describe the metal ions adsorption. the KF values were 25.43 and 29.11 mg/g for U（Ⅵ） and th（Ⅳ）, respectively, at 30℃. the adsorbent can be regenerated effectively from U（Ⅵ） and th（Ⅳ） loaded ones using 0.01 mol/L HC1. the new adsorbent was quite stable for many cycles, without much reduction in its adsorption capacity towards the metals.

Numerical computation of the flowfield inside a pump is herein used as a numerical laboratory, subject to the limitations of modeling assumptions and to experimental verification. A numerical computation of the flow inside a real industrial centrifugal pump is performed that includes a very sophisticated geometry. Conversely to other computations, in this test case no simplification of the geometry was introduced. Numerical computations are obtained using spalart-Allmaras turbulence model. A detailed analysis of the turbulent flowstructure is performed for the design point and two off design conditions. Additional computations were performed in order to compare the numerical and experimental pump characteristics; these were obtained under normalized testing conditions. Further computations are presented for the pump working in reverse turbine mode (PAt). Detailed analyses of the flow allow a comparison of the internal flow losses when the pump is operating in direct and reverse mode. this is also useful to help in the selection of an adequate pump geometry that can work in both modes with best efficiency.

Design of a robust production facility layout with minimum handling cost （MHC） presents an appropriate approach to tackle facility layout problems in a dynamic volatile environment, in which product demands randomly change in each planning period. the objective of the design is to find the robust facility layout with minimum total material handling cost over the entire multiperiod planning horizon. this paper proposes a new mathematical model for designing robust machine layout in the stochastic dynamic environment of manufacturing systems using quadratic assignment problem （QAP） formulation. In this investigation, product demands are assumed to be normally distributed random variables with known expected value, variance, and covariance that randomly change from period to period. the proposed model was verified and validated using randomly generated numerical data and benchmark examples. the effect of dependent product demands and varying interest rate on the total cost function of the proposed model has also been investigated. sensitivity analysis on the proposed model has been performed. Dynamic programming and simulated annealing optimization algorithms were used in solving the modeled example problems.
