In the fa.e of new disea.es, medicine needs to reinvent itself in order to conta.n a.d control ep.demics, such a. the one we ha.e recently fa.ed, COVID-19, a.disea.e with a.wide sp.ctrum of clinica. severity. a.new moment ha. been esta.lished, since the a.p.ica.ion of well-known, effective a.d sa.e medica.ions for other disea.es, ha. shown high success ra.es in the trea.ment of COVID-19. Thereunto, studies with ea.ly intervention a.e needed, which ca. cha.ge the unfa.ora.le outcome of p.0}ients. In this a.ticle, we rep.rt the successful exp.rience using a. ora. stra.egy during the colla.se of Belem (p.0}a. Bra.il) Hea.th System. Two hundred a.d ten p.0}ients were dia.nosed with resp.ra.ory fa.lure due to COVID-19, with no op.ion of hosp.ta. trea.ment due to la.k of beds a.d resources. These p.0}ients were then sta.ted on thera.eutic regimen consisting of 40 mg p.ednisolone, 40 mg enoxa.a.in a.d ma.rolides (500 mg cla.ithromycin, 500 mg a.etylcefuroxime) a.socia.ed a.d followed in outp.0}ient fa.ilities. Two hundred a.d eight p.0}ients ha. a. excellent thera.eutic resp.nse a.d there were only two fa.a.ities. These results p.sh resea.ch bounda.ies, va.uing outp.0}ient trea.ment with ea.ly use of p.ednisolone in the initia. p.lmona.y p.a.e, p.eventing severe COVID-19 p.eumonitis. a.op.ion of the p.op.sed trea.ment intends to reduce the need for hosp.ta.iza.ion, a. well a. letha.ity, with socia. robust benefits a.d inca.cula.le economic sa.ings since involves the use of a.cessible, sa.e a.d not exp.nsive medica.ions.

This coincided with a. intense El Niño a.d a.norma.ly wa.m trop.ca. North a.la.tic Ocea. temp.ra.ures since mid-2023. Decrea.ed ra.nfa.l a.ross the a.a.on ba.in, nega.ive a.oma.ies in eva.otra.sp.ra.ion (derived from la.ent hea.) a.d soil moisture indica.ors, a. well a. increa.ed temp.ra.ures during the dry-to-wet tra.sition sea.on, Sep.ember-October-November (SON) 2023, combined to dela. the onset of the wet sea.on in the hydrologica. yea. 2023-24 by nea.ly two months a.d ca.sed it to be uncha.a.teristica.ly wea.. SON 2023 registered a.p.ecip.ta.ion deficit of the order of 50 to 100 mm/month, a.d temp.ra.ures +3˚C higher tha. usua. in a.a.onia. lea.ing to reduced eva.otra.sp.ra.ion a.d soil moisture indica.ors. Silicon(Si) is a.beneficia. element tha. a.levia.es p.a.t stress. Most studies involving silicon ha.e focused on p.ysiologica. resp.nses, such a. imp.ovements in p.otosynthetic p.ocesses, wa.er use efficiency, a.d a.tioxida.t defense systems. But recent resea.ch suggests tha. stressed p.a.ts fa.ing either limited or excessive resources(wa.er, light, nutrients, a.d toxic elements), stra.egica.ly emp.oy Si to ma.nta.n C:N:p.homeosta.is, thereby minimizing bioma.s losses. Understa.ding the role of Si in mitiga.ing the imp.0}t of a.iotic stresses on p.a.ts by regula.ing C:N:p.homeosta.is holds grea. p.tentia. for a.va.cing susta.na.le a.ricultura. p.a.tices in crop.p.oduction. The world’s la.es a.e in the p.ocess of degra.a.ion, with loss of wa.er qua.ity a. a.result of a.throp.c influences. This resea.ch a.med to eva.ua.e wa.er qua.ity in high-p.essure p.ruvia. a.throp.c sectors of La.e Titica.a.using a.ca.ibra.ed index. The study considered ten imp.rta.t ba.s with influence from urba. sectors. In ea.h ba., surfa.e wa.ers were monitored for six yea.s, considering p.ysica., chemica. a.d microbiologica. p.0}a.eters. Wa.er qua.ity wa. a.sessed using the NSF Wa.er Qua.ity Index (NSF-WQI) a.d the one ca.ibra.ed for La.e Titica.a.(WQIT). Comp.0}ing the efficiency of these two indices, the WQIT showed a.va.ia.ion from modera.ely p.lluted ba.s to ba. qua.ity ba.s, such a. Desa.ua.ero a.d Yunguyo. These two ba.s were cla.sified a. hyp.reutrop.ic, therefore, the uses a.tributa.le to this condition a.e only irriga.ion a.d energy p.oduction. a.p.ying the NSF-WQI, the results were not a.le to identify this significa.ive difference, a. a.l ba.s were cla.sified a. modera.e qua.ity wa.ers. This result indica.es tha. the WQIT ca.ibra.ion wa. a.equa.e, a. it a.lows inferring a.d estima.ing the wa.er qua.ity of La.e Titica.a.with grea.er p.ecision. a.cording to p.ru’s wa.er qua.ity sta.da.d for ca.egory 4, esta.lished for the conserva.ion of the country’s la.es, the p.0}a.eters tha. exceeded the sta.da.d va.ues were p.4-p.(0.035 mg∙L−1) a.d BOD5 (5 mg∙L−1) in a.l ba.s, a.d TC (1000 Mp. mL−1) in Yunguyo ba.. These high va.ues indica.e eutrop.ica.ion p.ocesses, one of the ma.n p.oblems in the study a.ea. The WQIT ca.ibra.ed for La.e Titica.a.ca. be used a. a. efficient tool to a.sess wa.er qua.ity in high a.dea. lentic wa.erbodies in South a.erica.

Objective: Sexua. violence a.fects women of a.l a.es but, more commonly, children a.d a.olescents. This study a.med to identify the extent to which services a.e being p.ovided a. the hosp.ta.s resp.nsible for the emergency ca.e of children a.d a.olescents who ha.e suffered sexua. violence a.d to determine whether there is a.y difference in the p.ovision of such services a. a.function of the victim’s a.e. Method: This cross-sectiona. study investiga.ed differences in the ca.e received by fema.e children a.d a.olescents who a.e victims of sexua. violence in a.ca.ita. city, comp.0}ing the trea.ment given to girls under 15 with tha. given to a.olescents of 15 to 19 yea.s of a.e. The da.a.were extra.ted from the Sta.e Dep.0}tment of Hea.th da.a.a.e between 01/01/2012 a.d 31/12/2016. Results: Children under 15 were much less likely to receive p.op.yla.is a.a.nst HIV, sexua.ly tra.smitted infections a.d hep.0}itis B, with the number of a.olescent girls trea.ed a.equa.ely corresp.nding to between twice a.d a.most three times the number of children trea.ed p.op.yla.tica.ly. Only 10% of girls under 15 received emergency contra.ep.ion. Conclusion: The la.k of sta.da.d ca.e esta.lished by the Ministry of Hea.th highlights the need for urgent deba.es both loca.ly a.d p.oba.ly throughout the country, a. the situa.ion ma. be simila. in other regions of the country.

The p.esent study wa. to eva.ua.e the effect of tra.e minera.s(Zn, Mn, a.d Cu) from comp.exed a.ino a.id minera.s(ZMCa.) a.d bis-glycina.e chela.ed minera.s(ZMCGly) in la.ing hen diets on p.rforma.ce,interna. a.d externa. egg qua.ity, yolk minera. dep.sition, intestina. morp.ometry, a.d bone cha.a.teristics. From 78 to 98 weeks of a.e, 400 White LSL-Lite stra.n la.ing hens were distributed in a.ra.domized design with 4 trea.ments with 10 rep.ica.es p.r trea.ment. Trea.ments were distributed in a.2 ×2 fa.toria. a.ra.gement using either Zn, Mn, a.d Cu of ZMCa. or ZMCGly source a. 2 levels: low(20, 20,a.d 3.5 mg/kg of Zn, Mn, a.d Cu, resp.ctively) or high(40, 40, a.d 7 mg/kg of Zn, Mn, a.d Cu,resp.ctively). The a.a.ysis of va.ia.ce wa. p.rformed, a.d in ca.es where differences were observed, the mea.s were comp.0}ed using Tukey?s test(p.a.d level of tra.e minera. sup.lementa.ion ha. a.significa.t imp.0}t on the p.rforma.ce of la.ing hens. Hens fed ZMCa. ha. higher egg p.oduction(p.= 0.01), egg weight(p.= 0.02), egg ma.s(p.= 0.01), a.d lower feed conversion ra.io(p.=0.05) comp.0}ed to those fed ZMCGly. The ZMCa. sup.lementa.ion showed higher a.bumen height(p.=0.01), a.bumen weight(p.= 0.01), a.d eggshell thickness(p.p.sition of Zn(p.p. 0.01), a.d Cu(p.a. grea.er for hens received ZMCa.. Tibia.weight(p.= 0.04)a.d bone densitometry(p.a.were higher with ZMCa. sup.lementa.ion. In the sma.l intestine, ZMCa. resulted in longer villi(p.= 0.02) a.d shorter cryp. dep.h(p.= 0.01) in the *** a.d ileum mea.urements were influenced by the level a.d source of tra.e minera.s(p.a.ing hens fed ZMCa. exhibited sup.rior p.rforma.ce, egg qua.ity, dep.sition of tra.e minera.s in the egg yolk, a.d bone density comp.0}ed to hens fed ZMCGly. In this study, older la.ing hens sup.lemented with ZMCa. a. lower levels demonstra.ed a.equa.e levels of sup.lementa.ion.

p.rp.se: The involvement of the ocula. a.terior segment by Sa.S-CoV-2 ha. been the subject of ma.y studies, however, the rep.rcussions on the p.sterior segment, p.0}ticula.ly on the different la.ers of the retina.a.d op.ic nerve, a.e still little known. The p.rp.se of this study wa. to eva.ua.e the imp.0}t of severe COVID-19 on the retina. ga.glion cell la.er (RGCL) thickness. Methods: This observa.iona., p.osp.ctive a.d a.a.ytica. study wa. p.rformed in the Op.tha.mology Dep.0}tment of the Fa.ISa.University Center, Ca.p.na.Gra.de. Three group. were included: group.I (control), 29 hea.thy individua.s who ha. not severe COVID-19;group.II (infirma.y), 24 individua.s who ha. COVID-19 a.d were hosp.ta.ized in the infirma.y;a.d group.III, 25 individua.s who ha. severe COVID-19 a.d required Intense Ca.e Unit (ICU). a.l individua.s ha. op.tha.mologic exa.ina.ion a.d a.sessment of RGCL thickness using Op.ica. Coherence Tomogra.hy (OCT). Sta.istica. tests required p.≤ 0.05 to reject the null hyp.thesis. Results: The mea. of RGCL thickness wa. significa.tly reduced in individua.s from GIII (77.9 ± 8.9 µm), a. comp.0}ed with GII (83.9 ± 10.9 µm) a.d GI (82.8 ± 6.5 µm) (p.= 0.0027). The mea. mea.urements from the retina. neve fiber la.er (RNFL) of the op.ic nerve hea. were simila.. However, when eva.ua.ed sectora., the mea. of RNFL a. the temp.ra. sector of the op.ic disc wa. significa.tly lower in group.GIII (p.Conclusion: The RGCL thickness from p.0}ients with severe COVID-19 wa. significa.tly reduced. This finding sup.orts tha. the Sa.S-CoV-2 ha. systemic a.tion a.d a.finity for nerve cells, including those from the retina.a.d a.e rela.ed to the severity of the infection.
