This experiment aims to test the traits responsible for the increase in yield potential of winter wheat released in Henan Province, China. seven established cultivars released in the last 20 years and three advanced lines were assayed. The results showed that grain yield was positively correlated with harvest index（HI）, kernel number per square meter, and aboveground biomass. In addition, the HI and aboveground biomass showed an increasing trend with the year of ***, we can conclude that bread wheat breeding advances during recent decades in Henan Province, China,have been achieved through an increase in HI, kernel number per square meter, and aboveground biomass. A higher d13C seems also to be involved in these advances, which suggests a progressive improvement in constitutive water use efficiency not associated with a trend towards lower stomatal conductance in the most recent genotypes. However, genetic advance Researchdoes not appear related to changes in photosynthesis rates on area basis when measured in the flag leaf or the spike,but only to a higher, whole‐spike photosynthesis. Results also indirectly support the concept that under potential yield conditions, the spike contributed more than the flag leaf to kernel formation.

Contribution of the ear and the flag leaf to grainfilling in durum wheat inferred from the carbon isotope signature: Genotypic and growing conditions effects

The ear, together with the flag leaf, is believed to play a major role as a source of assimilates during grain filling in C3cereals. However, the intrusive nature of most of the available methodologies prevents reaching conclusive results in this regard. This study compares the carbon isotope composition（d13C） in its natural abundance in the water‐soluble fractions of the flag leaf blade and the ear with the d13C of mature kernels to assess the relative contribution of both organs to grain filling in durum wheat（Triticum turgidum L. ***）. The relative contribution of the ear was higher in landraces compared to modern cultivars, as well as in response to nitrogen fertilization and water stress. such genotypic and environmentally driven differences were associated with changes in harvest index（HI）, with the relative contribution of the ear being negatively associated with HI. In the case of the genotypic differences, the lower relative contribution of the ear in modern cultivars compared with landraces is probably associated with the appearance in the former of a certain amount of source limitation driven by a higher HI. In fact, the relative contribution of the ear was far more responsive to changes in HI in modern cultivars compared with landraces.

Drastic changes in the environment during a lifetime require developmental and physiological flexibility to ensure animal survival. Desert locusts, schistocerca gregaria, live in an extremely changeable environment, which alternates between periods of rainfall and abundant food and periods of drought and starvation. In order to survive, locusts display an extreme form ofphenotypic plasticity that allows them to rapidly cope with these changing conditions by converting from a cryptic solitarious phase to a swarming, voracious gregarious phase. To accomplish this, locusts possess different conserved mediators of phenotypic plasticity. Recently, attention has been drawn to the possible roles of protein kinases in this process. In addition to cyclic AMP-dependent protein kinase （PKA）, also cyclic GMP-dependent protein kinase （PKG）, which was shown to be involved in changes of food-related behavior in a variety of insects, has been associated with locust phenotypic plasticity. In this article, we study the transcript levels of the s. gregaria orthologue of the foraging gene that encodes a PKG in different food-related, developmental and crowding conditions. Transcript levels of the s. gregariaforaging orthologue are highest in different parts of the gut and differ between isolated and crowd-reared locusts. They change when the availability of food is altered, display a distinct pattern with higher levels after a moult and decrease with age during postembryonic development.

Two squarylium cyanine dyes (sqs) were synthesized to explore their applications in photoelectrochemical solar cells. Nanocrystalline TiO2 electrodes modified with sqs have been prepared to probe the photosensitization effects. A rather high photoelectric conversion efficiency of up to 2.17% and the top incident monochromatic photon-to-photocurrent conversion efficiency (IPCE) of 6.2% at 650nm were obtained from the sq2-modified nanocrystalline TiO2 electrode.

A new and simple procedure for the synthesis of aliphatic α-organothio aldoximes wasreported. The aliphatic aldoxime was chlorinated by t-BuOCl, the resulting hydroxime acidchloride was treated with triethylamine and alkyl mercaptan in a one pot procedure to get the targetcompounds. The method is very efficient with high yield and good purity.

Asymmetric 6-substituted-2-methoxy-4-(2,4-dichlorophenyl)-4H-1,3,2-benzodioxaphosphorin a-sulfides were prepared from intramolecular cyclization. The diastereomers were separated by column chromatography and fractional crystallization. Their structures were characterized on the basis of H-1 NMR, P-31 NMR and x-ray diffraction analysis.

A variety of novel N-t-butyl-N'-aminocarbonyl-N-(substitute)Benzoylhydrazines containing α-aminoalkylphosphonate groups were synthesized by the addition of N-t-butyl-N- (substituted)benzoylhydrazines to α-isocyanatoalkylphosphonates. which were synthesized by the reaction of α-aminoalkylphosphonates with triphosgene in good yields. The structures of products including by-products were confirmed by 1H NMR, 31P NMR. IR, mass spectroscopy- and elemental analysis.
