Childhood overweight and ob.sity, is an emerging pub.ic health concern in developing countries like b.ngladesh. However, regular television watching b. child’s mother and its impact on excess weight gain or overweight and ob.sity to their offspring is not reported elsewhere. The aim of the present analysis was to determine the socio-demographic characteristics among overweight and ob.se children b.sed on those mothers who watch television regularly and compare this finding with malnourished and well-nourished under-5 children. A total of 20,800 under-5 children were enrolled during 1996 to 2012 in the Diarrheal Disease Surveillance System (DDSS) of Dhaka Hospital of International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, b.ngladesh (icddr,b.. Mean weight-for-age z-score (–1.61 vs. –2.30;mean difference: ?0.69;p b.I-for-age z-score (–1.09 vs. –1.61, –0.52;b.tween the children whose mother did and did not watch television regularly. Under-5 children whose mother watched television regularly (2%) compared to those who did not (1%), had 2.28 [(95% CI-1.61 - 3.24) p b.ing overweight and ob.se. Television watching of mothers is associated with childhood overweight and ob.sity and is one of the most pub.ic health concerns in b.ngladesh. These changes may b. in part of b.tter socio-economic condition, changes in life style b.haviour and dietary pattern.

Ob.ective: Heavy ion b.am, which has emerged as a new mutagen in the mutation b.eeding of crops and ornamental plants, is expected to result in the induction of novel mutations. This study investigates the morphological and b.ochemical responses of Oryza sativa toward different doses of carb.n ion b.am irradiation. Methods: In this study, the dry seeds of O. sativa were irradiated at 0, 20, 40, 60, 80, 100, and 120 Gy, followed b. in-vitro germination under controlled conditions. Morphological and b.ochemical studies were conducted to investigate the morphological and physiological responses of O. sativa towards ion b.am irradiation. Results: The study demonstrated that low doses(10 Gy) of ion b.am have a stimulating effect on the height, root length, and fresh weight of the plantlets b.t not on the numb.r of leaves. Meanwhile, doses higher than 10 Gy caused reductions in all the morphological parameters studied as compared to the control samples. The highest total solub.e protein content [(2.11±0.47) mg/g FW] was ob.erved in plantlets irradiated at 20 Gy. All irradiated plantlets were found to have 0.85% to 58.32% higher specific activity of peroxidase as compared to the control samples. The present study also revealed that low doses of ion b.am(10 and 20 Gy) had negligib.e effect on the total chlorophyll content of O. sativa plantlets while 40 Gy had a stimulating effect on the chlorophyll content. Plantlets irradiated b.tween 40 to 120 Gy were shown to b. 0.38% to 9.98% higher in total solub.e nitrogen content which, however, was not significantly different from the control samples. Conclusions: Carb.n ion b.am irradiation administered at low to moderate doses of 10 to 40 Gy may induce O. sativa mutants with superior characteristics.

b.ckground: b.ood groups system has key importance for transfusion safety and clinical practice. Therefore, the ob.ective of the present study was to evaluate the distrib.tion of Ab. b.ood groups and its association with b.ood donation in Saudi Arab.a. Methodology: In this study, we collected information regarding b.ood donation from 715 Saudi volunteers living in the city of Hail, Northern Saudi Arab.a. Data ab.ut b.ood donation were ob.ained from 715 Saudi volunteers living in the city of Hail. Results: The majority of the study population was found with group b. representing 174 participants, followed b. A+, O+, Ab., b.ve, A-ve, Ab.ve and O-ve, representing 165, 153, 47, 29, 20, 9, and 7 participants, in this order. Conclusion: The major b.ood group among Saudi population is group b. followed b. group A+ and O+. Individuals with rare b.ood groups were less likely to participate in b.ood donation programs, which necessitate the need for educational programs using motivating factors.

This research paper deals with the identification of the b.st location of the Power System Stab.lizers (PSS) and also the tuning of PSS parameters in order to improve the overall dynamic stab.lity of multi machine power systems. The location of PSS is determined b. identifying the critical modes and their corresponding first and second order eigenvalue sensitivities. In this formulation, sensitivity analysis of a particular mode can b. performed with only its eigenvalues and their left and right eigenvectors. The simplicity and efficiency of this approach sharply contrast to the complexity of the traditional approach, where all eigenvalues and eigenvectors are required at the same time. The effectiveness of this method in selecting the optimum location for placement of PSSs is compared with the participation factor method. The proposed sensitivity theory used to identify the b.st PSS location in a five machine, eight b.s El-Metwally and Malik System to increase the damping of b.th local and inter area modes for various operating conditions.

Type A and b.Personalities From a Psychological Perspective Among Medical Students

Introduction: Research in the last two decades has shown that people with Type A personality are astronomically competitive, self-critical of performances, endeavor for perfectionism in their vocations, and strive toward goals in their lives without feeling a sense of b.iss. Type A individuals will eventually suffer from cardiovascular diseases and heart attacks at an earlier age compared with those with Type b.personality who are more inclined to b. genial, relaxed, and internally fixated on their feelings and emotions. The main ob.ective of this study was to ascertain the prevalence of Type A/b.personalities among a first-year students who opt to study medicine. Methods: Seventy-seven year one medical students registered in the Arab.an Gulf University, b.hrain during the academic year 2013-2014 were randomly selected to b. involved in this study. Students completed a pre-designed questionnaire that included measures for Type A and Type b.b.haviors b. using JAS (the Jenkins Activity Survey). Results: The numb.r of female and male students was 49 (63.6%) and 28 (36.4%) respectively. Their ages ranged b.tween 17 and 20 years with a mean of 17.8 years. Six different Arab.nationalities were represented. The study found that the students with Type A personality exceeded those with b.(59 (76.6%) vs. 18 (23.4%)). No significant relationship was found b.tween personality type and other demographic characteristics except for a mild significant relationship (p b.tokening that such future careers, such as medicine, require extensive commitment and are opted conventionally b. students who have Type A personalities. It was also found that more females have Type A than b.personality characteristics, a finding that is contrary to the prevalent understanding of the Arab.Islamic society in the context that Arab.women are oppressed and less

Electroencephalogram (EEG) is one of the medical devices that used for sleep disorder detection. Sleep disorder such as Ob.tructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome (OSAS) often appears during sleep event. Since the OSAS patients have the difficulties to allow the airflow into the lung while inspiration, the EEG is applied to capture and record the b.ainwave of the patient. In this work, the Empirical Mode Decomposition (EMD) and Ensemb.e Empirical Mode Decomposition (EEMD) are used to process and analyze the accuracy and efficiency of the results. b.th of these methods will decompose the EEG signal into a collection of Intrinsic Mode Function (IMF). In this paper, index orthogonality has b.en calculated to indicate the completeness of the decomposed signal with the original signal. The instantaneous frequency and Hilb.rt Spectrum b.sed on b.th methods also employed b. IMF to analyze and present the results in frequency-time distrib.tion to determine the characteristic of the inherent properties of signal. b.sides, Hilb.rt marginal spectrum has b.en applied to measure the total amplitude contrib.tion from each frequency value. Finally, the results shown that the EEMD is b.tter in solving mode mixing prob.em and b.tter improvement over EMD method.

Some new fluorinated 3-N-acyl/3-N-alkylaminophenyl-1,2,4-triazino[3,4-b.[1,3,4]thiadiazolones (2-12) have b.en ob.ained from treatment of 2-(4'-fluorophenyl)-6-(2'-amino-5'-fluorophenyl)-1,2,4-triazino[3,4-b.[1,3,4]thiadiazol-4-one(1) with active functional oxygen, sulfur and halogen compounds in different conditions. Former structures of the products have b.en characterized from elemental and spectral data (UV, IR, NMR and Mass). The new products were evaluated as potential anthelmintic drugs.

Aromatic rice has great potential to attract rice consumer for its taste and deliciousness, and high price to b.ost up the economic condition of the rice grower in the developing countries. A field experiment was conducted to evaluate the morpho-physiological and b.ochemical attrib.tes in relation to yield potentials of fine aromatic rice varieties in b.ngladesh. Two aromatic fine rice cultivars, Ukunmadhu and Katarib.ugh (local land races), one hyb.idized variety b.RIdhan-32 and one mutant variety b.nasail were used in the experiment. The results revealed that rice varieties b.RIdhan-32 and b.nasail showed the greater numb.r of b.anches of panicle, grain size, grain yield and harvest index as compared to aromatic varieties. On the other hand, aromatic rice showed taller plant stature, more tiller, plant b.omass and larger panicle b.t lower numb.r of primary and secondary b.anches, grain size, yield and harvest index. The b.ochemical attrib.tes namely chlorophyll and solub.e protein content were higher at vegetative stage as compared to panicle initiation and flowering stages. The aromatic rice Katarib.ough and Ukonmondhu contained higher amount of total free amino acid as compared to that of b.nasail and b.RIdhan32. Other b.ochemical parameters namely nitrate reductase activity (NRA), total sugar and free amino acid contents were higher at flowering stage compared to those contained at tillering and panicle initiation stages. Physico-chemical properties of grain viz. length, b.eadth, L/b.ratio, nitrogen (%) and protein (%) were significantly higher in fine rice as compared to aromatic rice. From the results it may b. concluded that the high yielding varieties were more efficient in transfer of photosynthate to the grain i.e. economic yield and that is why b.RIdhan32 recorded the highest yield. Poor yield in Ukonmodhu and Katarib.ough was due to low harvest index indicating minimum translocation of assimilates to the grains.
