Postoperative surgical site infection(SSI) is a common complication after posterior lumbar spine surgery. This review details an approach to the prevention,diagnosis and treatment of SSIs. Factors contributing to the development of a SSI can be split into three categories:(1) microbiological factors;(2) factors related to the patient and their spinal pathology; and(3) factors relating to the surgical procedure. SSI is most commonly caused by Staphylococcus aureus. The virulence of the organism causing the SSI can affect its presentation. SSI can be prevented by careful adherence to aseptic technique,prophylactic antibiotics,avoiding myonecrosis by frequently releasing retractors and preoperatively optimizing modifiable patient factors. Increasing pain is commonly the only symptom of a SSI and can lead to a delay in diagnosis. c-reactive protein and magnetic resonance imaging can help establish the diagnosis. Treatment requires acquiring intra-operative cultures to guide future antibiotic therapy and surgical debridement of all necrotic tissue. A SSI can usually be adequately treated without removing spinalinstrumentation. A multidisciplinary approach to SSIs is important. It is useful to involve an infectious disease specialist and use minimum serial bactericidal titers to enhance the effectiveness of antibiotic therapy. A plastic surgeon should also be involved in those cases of severe infection that require repeat debridement and delayed closure.

AIM: To study an assessment of the number of enterochromaffin cells and expression of hydroxyindole-Omethyltransferase in colonic mucosa and urine excretion of 6-sulfatoxymelatonin in patients with ulcerative colitis. METHODS: The study included 30 healthy subjects (groupⅠ-c), 30 patients with ulcerative proctitis [group Ⅱ-ulcerative proctitis (UP)] and 30 patients with ulcerative colitis [group Ⅲ-ulcerative colitis (Uc)] in acute phases of these diseases. The number of enterochromaffin cells (Ec) was estimated in rectal and colonic mucosa. Bioptates were assembled from many different parts of the large intestine. Immunorective cells collected from various parts of the colon were counted according to the Eurovision DAKO (Dako A/S, copenhagen, Denmark) System in the range of 10 fields in each bioptate at × 200 magnification. The level of mRNA expression of hydroxyindole-O-methyltransferase (HIOMT) in colonic mucosa was estimated with RT-PcR. Urine 6-sulfatoxymelatonin (6-HMS) excretion was determined immunoenzymatically using an IBl (IBl International GmbH, Hamburg, Germany) kit (RE 54031). RESUlTS: The number of Ec cells in healthy subjects (c) was 132.40 ± 31.26. In patients of group Ⅱ (UP) and group Ⅲ (Uc) the number of these cells was higher 225.40 ± 37.35 (P ctively. Similar differences were related to HIOMT expression, which was 1.04 ± 0.36 in group c, 1.56 ± 0.56 (P c. Pulping of corn stalks was studied in soda, soda-anthraquinone (AQ), kraft and kraft-AQ processes. The time, temperature and alkali concentration were varied in soda process. In respect to kappa number and pulp yield, 1 hour cooking at 1400c in 14% alkali were best conditions for corn stalks pulping. Pulp yield was increased by 5.5% and kappa number was reduced by 4.4 points with an addition of 0.05% AQ in the soda liquor. Breaking length was better in soda-AQ process than soda process but tear strength was inferior. In the kraft process, pulp yield was increased with increasing sulphidity and decreasing active alkali. The effectiveness of AQ in the low and high sulphidity kraft process was studied. Results showed that AQ was more effective in low sulphidity than high sulphidity. Strength properties in kraft processes were better than the soda and soda-AQ processes.

使用圣诞鸟类统计数据,我们分析了在美国大平原北部6种雀形目鸟种类的丰富度每年的时空变化(1960～1990)。这项研究为研究全球变暖如何引起当前生物群落中的物种分离提供了新的视角。我们发现冬季气温对于体型相近的鸣禽的冬季相对丰富度的影响是有差别的。同样地,冬季年平均气温的波动(即冬天的酷寒程度)与其中3个物种的相对丰富度呈显著相关(P<0.05),而与其它3个物种不具有这种显著相关关系。我们进行条件概率分析后,发现3种与气温关联的物种的丰富度在-4℃以下显著减少,而其它3种物种的丰富度在8～-16℃范围内波动很小。由此我们得出结论:即使在更冷的气候条件下,1)一部分鸣禽的冬季分布直接或者间接受到气温的限制;2)这些鸣禽具有动态的丰富度,能够迅速响应气温的变化。

Sepsis is a systemic inflammatory response to infection that causes severe neurological complications. Previous studies have suggested that melatonin is protective during sepsis. Additionally, silent information regulator 1（SIRT1） was reported to be beneficial in sepsis. However, the role of SIRT1 signaling in the protective effect of melatonin against septic encephalopathy remains unclear. This study aimed to investigate the role of SIRT1 in the protective effect of melatonin. EX527, a SIRT1 inhibitor, was used to reveal the role of SIRT1 in melatonin’s action. cecal ligation and puncture or sham operation was performed in male c57Bl/6J *** was administrated intraperitoneally（30 mg/kg）. The survival rate of mice was recorded for the 7-day period following the sham or clP operation. The blood–brain barrier（BBB） integrity, brain water content, levels of inflammatory cytokines（TNF-a, Il-1b, and HMGB1）, and the level of oxidative stress（superoxide dismutase（SOD）, catalase（cAT）, and malondialdehyde（MDA）） and apoptosis were assessed. The expression of SIRT1, Ac-FoxO1, Ac-p53, Ac-NF-jB, Bcl-2, and Bax was detected by Western blot. The results suggested that melatonin improved survival rate,attenuated brain edema and neuronal apoptosis, and preserved BBB *** decreased the production of TNF-a, Il-1b, and *** increased the activity of SOD and cAT and decreased the MDA production. Additionally, melatonin upregulated the expression of SIRT1 and Bcl-2 and downregulated the expression of Ac-FoxO1, Ac-p53, Ac-NF-jB,and Bax. However, the protective effects of melatonin were abolished by EX527. In conclusion, our results demonstrate that melatonin attenuates sepsis-induced brain injury via SIRT1 signaling activation.
