Abdominal paracentesis drainage ameliorates myocardial injury in severe experimental pancreatitis rats through suppressing oxidative stress

BACKGROUND Abdominal paracentesis drainage(APD)is a safe and effective strategy for severe acute pancreatitis(SAP)patients.However,the effects of APD treatment on SAPassociated cardiac injury remain unknown.AIM To investigate the protective effects of APD on SAP-associated cardiac injury and the underlying mechanisms.METHODS SAP was induced by 5%sodium taurocholate retrograde injection in Sprague-Dawley rats.APD was performed by inserting a drainage tube with a vacuum ball into the lower right abdomen of the rats immediately after SAP induction.Morphological staining,serum amylase and inflammatory mediators,serum and ascites high mobility group box(HMGB)1,cardiac-related enzymes indexes and cardiac function,oxidative stress markers and apoptosis and associated proteins were assessed in the myocardium in SAP rats.Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate oxidase activity and mRNA and protein expression were also examined.RESULTS APD treatment improved cardiac morphological changes,inhibited cardiac dysfunction,decreased cardiac enzymes and reduced cardiomyocyte apoptosis,proapoptotic Bax and cleaved caspase-3 protein levels.APD significantly decreased serum levels of HMGB1,inhibited nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate oxidase expression and ultimately alleviated cardiac oxidative injury.Furthermore,the activation of cardiac nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate oxidase by pancreatitis-associated ascitic fluid intraperitoneal injection was effectively inhibited by adding anti-HMGB1 neutralizing antibody in rats with mild acute pancreatitis.CONCLUSION APD treatment could exert cardioprotective effects on SAP-associated cardiac injury through suppressing HMGB1-mediated oxidative stress,which may be a novel mechanism behind the effectiveness of APD on SAP.

AIM To investigate the role of peritoneal macrophage(PM) polarization in the therapeutic effect of abdominal paracentesis drainage(APD) on severe acute pancreatitis(SAP).METHODS SAP was induced by 5% Na-taurocholate retrograde injection in Sprague-Dawley rats. APD was performed by inserting a drainage tube with a vacuum ball into the lower right abdomen of the rats immediately after the induction of SAP. To verify the effect of APD on macrophages, PMs were isolated and cultured in an environment, with the peritoneal inflammatory environment simulated by the addition of peritoneal lavage in complete RPMI 1640 medium. Hematoxylin and eosin staining was performed. The levels of pancreatitis biomarkers amylase and lipase as well as the levels of inflammatory mediators in the blood and peritoneal lavage were determined. The polarization phenotypes of the PMs were identified by detecting the marker expression of M1/M2 macrophages via flow cytometry, qPCR and immunohistochemical staining. The protein expression in macrophages that had infiltrated the pancreas was determined by Western blot.RESULTS APD treatment significantly reduced the histopathological scores and levels of amylase, lipase, tumor necrosis factor-α and interleukin(IL)-1β, indicating that APD ameliorates the severity of SAP. Importantly, we found that APD treatment polarized PMs towards the M2 phenotype, as evidenced by the reduced number of M1 macrophages and the reduced levels of proinflammatory mediators, such as IL-1β and L-selectin, as well as the increased number of M2 macrophages and increased levels of anti-inflammatory mediators, such as IL-4 and IL-10. Furthermore, in an in vitro study wherein peritoneal lavage from the APD group was added to the cultured PMs to simulate the peritoneal inflammatory environment, PMs also exhibited a dominant M2 phenotype, resulting in a significantly lower level of inflammation. Finally, APD treatment increased the proportion of M2 macrophages and upregulated the expression of the anti-inflammatory protein Arg-1

Effect of health education based on information-motivationbehavioral skills model on patients with unilateral vestibular dysfunction

BACKGROUND Vestibular dysfunction(VH)is a common concomitant symptom of late peri-pheral vestibular lesions,which can be trauma,poisoning,infection,heredity,and neurodegeneration,but about 50%of the causes are unknown.The study uses the information-motivation-behavioral skills(IMB)model for health education,effectively improve the quality of life,increase their self-confidence,reduce anxiety and depression,and effectively improve the psychological state of patients.AIM To explore the effect of health education based on the IMB model on the degree of vertigo,disability,anxiety and depression in patients with unilateral vestibular hypofunction.METHODS The clinical data of 80 patients with unilateral vestibular hypofunction from January 2019 to December 2021 were selected as the retrospective research objects,and they were divided into the control group and the observation group with 40 cases in each group according to different nursing methods.Among them,the control group was given routine nursing health education and guidance,and the observation group was given health education and guidance based on the IMB model.The changes in self-efficacy,anxiety and depression,and quality of life of patients with unilateral VH were compared between the two groups.RESULTS There was no significant difference in General Self-Efficacy Scale(GSES)scale scores between the two groups of patients before nursing(P>0.05),which was comparable;after nursing,the GSES scale scores of the two groups were higher than those before nursing.The nursing group was higher than the control group,and the difference was statistically significant(P0.05).After nursing,the HADS score,anxiety,and depression subscale scores of the two groups of patients were lower than those before nursing,and the nursing group was lower than the control group,and the difference was statistically

Improvement in hydrogen storage performance of MgH2 by vanadium doped with ZIF-8 derived a single-atom catalyst V-N-C

Herein,the successful preparation of a singleatom catalyst V-N-C using vanadium-doped zeolitic imidazolate framework（ZIF）-8 as a precursor is reported.The experimental results showed that the V-N-C had a good promoting effect on the hydrogen storage performance of MgH2,and the optimal addition amount of V-N-C was 10wt%.The hydrogenation and dehydrogenation apparent activation energies of 10 wt% V-N-C-catalyzed MgH2were reduced by 44.9 and 53.5 kJ·mol-1,respectively,compared to those of additive-free MgH2.The 10 wt% V-N-C-catalyzed MgH2could reabsorb 5.92 wt% of hydrogen in 50 min at 150℃,with a capacity retention rate of 99.1% after 30 cycles of hydrogen absorption and desorption.Mechanism analysis showed that V-N-C was partially transformed into VN and metallic V when it was milled with MgH2;the in-situ-formed VN and metallic V played an important role in improving the hydrogen storage performance of MgH2.This approach provides a potential solution for obtaining high-performance Mg-based hydrogen storage materials through synergistic interactions between V,N and C.

Hydrodynamic Characteristics of Undular Tidal Bores in the Qiantang River Based on Field Observations

Understanding the undular tidal bores in the Qiantang River is essential for effective river management and maintenance.While breaking tidal bores have been studied extensively, reports on undular tidal bores in the Qiantang Riverremain limited. Furthermore, observed data on undular tidal bores fulfilling the requirements of short measurementtime intervals, and spring, medium, and neap tide coverage, and providing detailed data for the global vertical stratificationof flow velocity are quite limited. Based on field observations at Qige in the Qiantang estuary, we analyzedthe characteristics of undular tidal bores. The results showed that the flooding amplitude (a) of the first wave isalways larger than its ebbing amplitude (b). Moreover, the vertical distribution of the maximum flood velocity exhibitesthree shapes, influenced by the tidal range, while that of the maximum ebb velocity exhibites a single shape. Duringthe initial phase of the flood tide in the spring and medium tides, the upper water body experiences multiple oscillatingchanges along the flow direction, corresponding to the alternating process of the crest and trough of the tide levelupon the arrival of the tidal bore. The tidal range is a crucial parameter in tidal bore hydrodynamics. By establishingthe relationship between hydrodynamic parameters and tidal range, other hydrodynamic parameters, such as the tidalbore height, maximum flood depth–averaged velocity, maximum flood stratified velocity at the measurement points,and duration of the flood tide current, can be effectively predicted, thereby providing an important reference for rivermanagement and maintenance.

Optimized the vanadium electrolyte with sulfate-phosphoric mixed acids to enhance the stable operation at high-temperature

Herein, the influence of the concentration design and comprehensive performance of the sulfate-phosphoric mixed acid system electrolyte is investigated to realize an electrolyte that maintains high energy density and stable operation at high temperatures. Static stability tests have shown that VOPO4 precipitation occurs only with vanadium(V) electrolyte. The concentration of vanadium ion of 2.0–2.2 mol·L^(–1), phosphoric acid of 0.10–0.15 mol·L^(–1), and sulfuric acid of 2.5–3.0 mol·L^(–1) are suitable for a vanadium redox flow battery in the temperature range from –20 to 50 ℃. The equations for predicting the viscosity and conductivity of electrolytes are obtained by the response surface method. The optimized electrolyte overcomes precipitation generation. It has 2.8 times higher energy density than the non-phosphate electrolyte, and a coulomb efficiency of 94.0% at 50 ℃. The sulfate-phosphoric mixed acid system electrolyte promotes the electrode reaction process, increases the current density, and reduces the resistance. This work systematically optimizes the concentrations of composition of positive and negative vanadium electrolytes with mixed sulfate-phosphoric acid. It provides a basis for the different valence states and comprehensive properties of sulfate-phosphoric mixed acid system vanadium electrolytes under extreme environments, guiding engineering applications.

Research on dynamic measurement method of speckle in laser display

Laser display technology is the most promising display technology in the market and is widely used in many fields. However, laser speckle has been troubling the application and expansion of this technology in some fields. In order to better evaluate the speckle, speckle measurement methods must be studied. In this study, a dynamic measurement method for laser speckles is proposed according to the optical superposition characteristics of speckle, which can reduce the influence of non-coherent factors on the speckle measurement results. The feasibility of the dynamic speckle measurement method is verified by designing an experimental scheme.

Synergic action of linear dispersion, second-order nonlinearity, and third-order nonlinearity in shaping the spectral profile of a femtosecond pulse transporting in a lithium niobate crystal

We present a detailed theoretical and numerical analysis on the temporal-spectral-spatial evolution of a highpeak-power femtosecond laser pulse in two sets of systems:a pure lithium niobate(LN)plate and a periodically poled lithium niobate(PPLN)plate.We develop a modified unidimensional pulse propagation model that considers all the prominent linear and nonlinear processes and carried out the simulation process based on an improved split-step Fourier transformation method.We theoretically analyze the synergic action of the linear dispersion effect,the second-order nonlinearity(2nd-NL)second-harmonic generation(SHG)effect,and the third-order nonlinearity(3rd-NL)self-phase modulation(SPM)effect,and clarify the physical mechanism underlying the peculiar and diverse spectral broadening patterns previously reported in LN and PPLN thin plate experiments.Such analysis and discussion provides a deeper insight into the synergetic contribution of these linear and nonlinear effects brought about by the interaction of a femtosecond laser pulse with the LN nonlinear crystal and helps to draw a picture to fully understand these fruitful optical physical processes,phenomena,and laws.

Hem-o-lok clip migration to duodenal bulb post-cholecystectomy:A case report

BACKGROUND Hem-o-lok clips are typically used to control the cystic duct and vessels during laparoscopic cholecystectomy(LC)and common bile duct exploration for stones in the bile duct and gallbladder.Here,we report a unique example of Hem-o-lok clip movement towards the duodenal bulb after LC,appearing as a submucosal tumor(SMT).Additionally,we provide initial evidence of gradual and evolving endoscopic manifestations of Hem-o-lok clip migration to the duodenal bulb wall and review the available literature.CASE SUMMARY A 72-year-old man underwent LC for gallstones,and Hem-o-lok clips were used to ligate both the cystic duct and cystic artery.Esophagogastroduodenoscopy(EGD)2 years later revealed an SMT-like lesion in the duodenal bulb.Due to the symptomatology,the clinical examination did not reveal any major abnormalities,and the patient was followed up as an outpatient.A repeat EGD performed 5 months later revealed an SMT-like lesion in the duodenal bulb with raised edges and a central depression.A third EGD was conducted,during which a Hem-o-lok clip was discovered connected to the front side of the duodenum.The clip was extracted easily using biopsy forceps,and no complications occurred.Two months after the fourth EGD,the scar was surrounded by normal mucosa.CONCLUSION Clinicians should be aware of potential post-LC complications.Hem-o-lok clips should be removed if symptomatic.

Monitoring the prevalence of antimicrobial resistance genes(ARGs)is vital for addressing the global crisis of antibiotic-resistant bacterial infections.Despite its importance,the characterization of ARGs and microbiome structures,as well as the identification of indicators for routine ARG monitoring in pig farms,are still lacking,particularly concerning variations in antimicrobial exposure in different countries or regions.Here,metagenomics and random forest machine learning were used to elucidate the ARG profiles,microbiome structures,and ARG contamination indicators in pig manure under different antimicrobial pressures between China and Europe.Results showed that Chinese pigs exposed to high-level antimicrobials exhibited higher total and plasmid-mediated ARG abundances compared to those in European pigs(P<0.05).ANT(6)-Ib,APH(3')-IIIa,and tet(40)were identified as shared core ARGs between the two pig populations.Furthermore,the core ARGs identified in pig populations were correlated with those found in human populations within the same geographical regions.Lactobacillus and Prevotella were identified as the dominant genera in the core microbiomes of Chinese and European pigs,respectively.Forty ARG markers and 43 biomarkers were able to differentiate between the Chinese and European pig manure samples with accuracies of 100%and 98.7%,respectively.Indicators for assessing ARG contamination in Chinese and European pigs also achieved high accuracy(r=0.72-0.88).Escherichia flexneri in both Chinese and European pig populations carried between 21 and 37 ARGs.The results of this study emphasize the importance of global collaboration in reducing antimicrobial resistance risk and provide validated indicators for evaluating the risk of ARG contamination in pig farms.
