Psoas muscle metastasis from cervical carcinoma:Correlation and comparison of diagnostic features on FDG-PET/CT and diffusion-weighted MRI

Psoas muscle metastasis, though rare, is the commonest site of skeletal muscle involvement in cervical carcinoma. The appropriate clinical management of this condition, particularly of the pain related to malignant psoas syndrome, is still evolving and the diagnostic features on conventional morphological imaging modalities are often non specific, with the differential diagnosis lying between sarcoma, hematoma, and abscess. In this report, a comparison of various morphofunctional imaging modalities was made. Fluorodeoxyglucosepositron emission tomography(FDG-PET)/computed tomography(CT) was the first to suspect disease involvement of the psoas muscle, demonstrating intense FDG uptake(compared with the contralateral muscle), while ultrasound showed heterogeneous echotexture, and magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) showed subtle altered signal intensity in the right psoas muscle. Both anatomical imaging modalities and non contrast CT of the PET-CT examination demonstrated a bulky psoas muscle, without any focal abnormality. On diffusionweighted imaging of MRI(DWI-MRI), restricted diffusion of the involved muscle was an important observation. The psoas muscle metastatic involvement was proven histopathologically. Thus, enhanced glucose metabolism and restricted diffusion in the newer noninvasive molecular imaging modalities(e.g., PET/CT and DWI-MRI) could serve as valuable adjunctive parameters in diagnosing this entity in the absence of a focal abnormality in the anatomical modalities. In the treatment response monitoring scenario, FDG-PET/CT demonstrated near complete resolution following administration of 3 cycles of systemic chemotherapy and local external radiotherapy.

Non-Nutritive Bioactive Compounds in Pulses and Their Impact on Human Health: An Overview

This review describes the non-nutritive biologically active components in grain legumes and discusses about the bioactivity of phenols, isoflavones, phytosterols, phytic acid, saponins, tannins, protease inhibitors and bioactive complex carbohydrates in different pulse grains. These bioactive components have wide ranging biological activities and conesquently many different targets and mechanism of action. The potential beneficial effect of these compounds especially their antioxidant properties and their role in the prevention of non-communicable chronic diseases such as coronary heart disease, stroke, cancer and diabetes has been discussed.

Renal cell carcinoma(RCC),the most prevalent type of kidney cancer,is a significant cause of cancer morbidity and mortality *** tyrosine kinase inhibitors(TKls),in combination with immune checkpoint inhibitors(ICls),are among the first-line treatment options for patients with advanced *** therapies target the vascular endothelial growth factor receptor(VEGFR)tyrosine kinase pathway and other kinases crucial to cancer proliferation,survival,and *** have yielded substantial improvements in progression-free survival(PFS)and overall survival(OS)for patients with advanced ***,nearly all patients eventually progress on these drugs as resistance *** review provides an overview of TKl resistance in RCC and explores different mechanisms of resistance,including upregulation of alternative proangiogenic pathways,epithelial-mesenchymal transition(EMT),decreased intracellular drug concentrations due to efflux pumps and lysosomal sequestration,alterations in the tumor microenvironment including bone marrow-derived cells(BMDCs)and tumor-associated fibroblasts(TAFs),and genetic factors such as single nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs).A comprehensive understanding of these mechanisms opens the door to the development of innovative therapeutic approaches that can effectively overcome TKl resistance,thereby improving outcomes for patients with advanced RCC.

A number of doubly-fused [1,2] naphthodifurans have been synthesized from the corresponding diallyl-dihydroxy naphthalene precursors involving N-iodosuccinimide in acetonitrile and also by molecular iodine in aqueous micelle using CTAB as surfactant. The electrophilic cyclization occurs regioselectively by a 5-exo-trig mode of cyclization.

Credit Card Fraud Detection Using Weighted Support Vector Machine

Credit card fraudulent data is highly imbalanced, and it has presented an overwhelmingly large portion of nonfraudulent transactions and a small portion of fraudulent transactions. The measures used to judge the veracity of the detection algorithms become critical to the deployment of a model that accurately scores fraudulent transactions taking into account case imbalance, and the cost of identifying a case as genuine when, in fact, the case is a fraudulent transaction. In this paper, a new criterion to judge classification algorithms, which considers the cost of misclassification, is proposed, and several undersampling techniques are compared by this new criterion. At the same time, a weighted support vector machine (SVM) algorithm considering the financial cost of misclassification is introduced, proving to be more practical for credit card fraud detection than traditional methodologies. This weighted SVM uses transaction balances as weights for fraudulent transactions, and a uniformed weight for nonfraudulent transactions. The results show this strategy greatly improve performance of credit card fraud detection.

A Brief Study of the Universe

In the present study, an oscillatory model of the universe is proposed wherein the universe undergoes a sequence of big bang, expansion, contraction, big bang—repeated ad infinitum. The universe comprises of a “World” and an “Antiworld” in both of which matter operates in the positive time zone and antimatter in the negative time zone. Big bang is predicted as the violent encounter between matter and antimatter. It is suggested that antimatter has negative mass and is hugely abundant. It is also shown why it is extremely rare in spite of its abundance. It is predicted that a built in transformation converts matter to antimatter and vice versa. Finally, it is established that symmetry between matter and antimatter in the universe is maintained throughout.

Unsteady Incompressible Flow of a Generalised Oldroyed-B Fluid between Two Infinite Parallel Plates

This paper presents a study of visco-elastic flow of an incompressible generalized Oldroyd-B fluid between two infinite parallel plates in which the constitutive equation involves fractional order time derivative. The solutions of field equations are being obtained for the motion of the said fluid between two parallel plates where the lower plate starts to move with steady velocity and the upper plate remains fixed in the first problem and the upper plate oscillates with constant frequency and the other being at rest in the second problem. The exact solutions for the velocity field are obtained by using the Laplace transform and finite Fourier Sine transform technique in terms of Mittag Leffler and generalised functions. The analytical expression for the velocity fields are derived and the effect of fractional parameters upon the velocity field is depicted graphically.
