To the Editor:Lung ultrasound(LUS)may be a promising technique to assess lung injury from coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19).However,the LUS characteristics and their assessment value have not been well described.We aimed to explore the LUS characteristics and their assessment value in COVID-19 patients with different levels of disease severity.

Devices that surpass the restriction of reciprocity of classical physical waves have brought intriguing possibilities for wave modulation.Non-reciprocal acoustic devices that rely on the viscosity of the medium or nonlinear effect have low efficiency and distortion problems respectively,and poor immunity to defects.The appearance of acoustic topological insulators achieves nonreciprocal transport with high robustness.However,the local nature of topological states means that their appearance depends on a system with a larger dimension.That is,most of the area of a topological device is occupied by useless lattices that do not directly contribute to non-reciprocal transport.The extra cost of topology protection severely limits the application scenarios of topology states,decreases the cost-effectiveness of topology devices,and is not conducive to device miniaturization and integration.In this work,we construct an acoustic three-layer heterojunction by introducing two types of domain walls into a conventional quantum Hall effect acoustic topological insulator,and successfully construct a non-reciprocal scattering network that forms topological modes spanning the interlayer domain.These extended states are still protected by bulk-band topology,making their non-reciprocity robust against disorder.This structure flawlessly realizes the path broadening in a two-dimensional topological system and can accomplish functions such as non-reciprocal acoustic splitting and multichannel transmission.Our work opens up opportunities for developing topological-insulator-based non-reciprocal devices in acoustics.

The stochastic finite-fault simulation method was applied to synthesize the horizontal ground acceleration seismograms produced by the MW6.1 Ludian earthquake on August 3,2014.For this purpose,we produced first a total of 200 kinematic source models for the Ludian event,which are characterized by the heterogeneous slip on the conjugated ruptured fault and the slip-dependent spreading of the rupture front.The results indicated that the heterogeneous slip and the spatial extent of the ruptured fault play dominant roles in the spatial distribution of ground motions in the near-fault area.The peak ground accelerations(PGAs)and 5%-damped pseudospectral accelerations(PSAs)at periods shorter than 0.5 s estimated on the resulting synthetics generally match well with the observations at stations with Joyner-Boore distances(RJB)greater than 20 km.The synthetic PGVs and PSAs at periods of 0.5 s and 0.75 s are in good agreement with predicted medians by the Yu14 model(Yu et al.,2014).However,the synthetic results are generally much lower than the predicted medians by BSSA14 model(Boore et al.,2014).Moreover,the ground motion variability caused by the randomness in the source rupture process was evaluated by these synthetics.The standard deviations of PSAs on the base-10 logarithmic scale,Sigma[log10(PSA)],are closely dependent on either the spectral period or the RJB.The Sigma[log10(PSA)]remains a constant approximately 0.55 at periods shorter than 0.1 s,and then increase continuously up to^0.13 as the period increases from 0.1 to 2.0 s.The Sigma[log10(PSA)]values at periods of 0.1‒2.0 s show the downward tendency as the RJB values increase.However,the Sigma[log10(PSA)]values at periods shorter than 0.1 s decrease as the RJB values increase up to^50 km,and then increase with the increasing RJB.Furthermore,we found that the ground-motion variability shows the significant dependence on the azimuth.

In the present study, a rat model of non-traumatic intracerebral hemorrhage was established by type IV collagenase injection into the right globus pallidus. Bax and Bcl-2 expression in tissues surrounding hematomas was significantly increased within 14 days after injury, and it then gradually decreased. Vascular endothelial growth factor, Flk-1 and Flt-1 mRNA expression gradually increased over time. After intraperitoneal injection with minocycline, Bax expression was decreased 1 day after intracerebral hemorrhage. Flk-1 and Flt-1 mRNA expression was decreased after minocycline injection, but Bcl-2 expression was increased, and vascular endothelial growth factor mRNA expression was decreased between 4-14 days. These results indicated that protective effects of minocycline on nerve tissues were associated with increased Bcl-2 expression and decreased Bax expression in the early stage after intracerebral hemorrhage. In the late stage, minocycline downregulated vascular endothelial growth factor and its receptor expression to inhibit brain tissue self-repair.

A novel power and cooling cogeneration system which combines a supercritical CO_(2) recompression cycle(SCRC), an ammonia-water absorption refrigeration cycle(AARC) and a Kalina cycle(KC) is proposed and investigated for the recovery of medium-temperature waste heat. The system is based on energy cascade utilization, and the waste heat can be fully converted through the simultaneous operation of the three sub-cycles. A steady-state mathematical model is built for further performance study of the proposed system. When the exhaust temperature is 505℃, it is shown that under designed conditions the thermal efficiency and exergy efficiency reach 30.74% and 61.55%, respectively. The exergy analysis results show that the main exergy destruction is concentrated in the heat recovery vapor generator(HRVG). Parametric study shows that the compressor inlet pressure, the SCRC pressure ratio, the main compressor and the turbine I inlet temperature, and the AARC generator pressure have significant effects on thermodynamic and economic performance of the combined system. The findings in this study could provide guidance for system design to achieve an efficient utilization of medium-temperature waste heat(e.g., exhaust heat from gas turbine, high-temperature fuel cells and internal combustion engine).

When evaluating an area's seismic risk or resilience,it is necessary to use the spatial correlation to analyze the ground motion parameters of multiple sites together in an earthquake.These two large earthquakes in Türkiye provided the possibility for spatial correlation analysis of ground motion intensity measurements in this area.Based on the strong motion records provided by The Disaster and Emergency Management Authority of Türkiye(AFAD),this study uses the local ground motion prediction equation in Türkiye to give spatial correlation analysis of Intensity Measurements.This study gives an exponential model based on a semivariogram and compares it with the correlation model obtained from previous studies.

As the deployment of large Low Earth Orbiters(LEO)communication constellations,navigation from the LEO satellites becomes an emerging opportunity to enhance the existing satellite navigation systems.The LEO navigation augmentation(LEO-NA)systems require a centimeter to decimeter accuracy broadcast ephemeris to support high accuracy positioning applications.Thus,how to design the broadcast ephemeris becomes the key issue for the LEO-NA systems.In this paper,the temporal variation characteristics of the LEO orbit elements were analyzed via a spectrum analysis.A non-singular element set for orbit fitting was introduced to overcome the potential singularity problem of the LEO orbits.Based on the orbit characteristics,a few new parameters were introduced into the classical 16 parameter ephemeris set to improve the LEO orbit fitting accuracy.In order to identify the optimal parameter set,different parameter sets were tested and compared and the 21 parameters data set was recommended to make an optimal balance between the orbit accuracy and the bandwidth requirements.Considering the real-time broadcast ephemeris generation procedure,the performance of the LEO ephemeris based on the predicted orbit is also investigated.The performance of the proposed ephemeris set was evaluated with four in-orbit LEO satellites and the results indicate the proposed 21 parameter schemes improve the fitting accuracy by 87.4%subject to the 16 parameters scheme.The accuracy for the predicted LEO ephemeris is strongly dependent on the orbit altitude.For these LEO satellites operating higher than 500 km,10 cm signal-in-space ranging error(SISRE)is achievable for over 20 min prediction.

Localized surface plasmon resonance(LSPR)biosensors,which enable nanoscale confinement and manipulation of light,offer the enhanced sensitivity and electromagnetic energy localization.The integration of LSPR with the fiber-optic technology has led to the development of compact and versatile sensors for miniaturization and remote sensing.This comprehensive review explores various sensor configurations,fiber types,and geometric shapes,highlighting their benefits in terms of sensitivity,integration,and performance improvement.Fabrication techniques such as focused non-chemical bonding strategies and self-assembly of nanoparticles are discussed,providing control over nanostructure morphology and enhancing sensor performance.Bio-applications of fiber-optic LSPR(FOLSPR)sensors are detailed,specifically in biomolecular interactions and analysis of proteins,pathogens and cells,nucleic acids(DNA and RNA),and other small molecules(organic compounds and heavy metal ions).Surface modification and detection schemes are emphasized for their potential for label-free and real-time biosensing.The challenges and prospects of FOLSPR sensors are addressed,including the developments in sensitivity,fabrication techniques,and measurement reliability.Integration with emerging technologies such as nanomaterials is highlighted as a promising direction for future research.Overall,this review provides insights into the advancements and potential applications of FOLSPR sensors,paving the way for sensitive and versatile optical biosensing platforms in various fields.

Sulfated rhamnose polysaccharide(SRP)derived from Enteromorpha prolifera is a metal-ion chelating agent that could potentially be used to treat diabetes.The aim of our study was to determine the effect of a variant of SRP on DIABETES.First,we synthesized and characterized SRPE-3 chromium(III)[SRPE-3-Cr(III)]complex using an enzymatic method.The maximum chelation rate was 18.2%under optimal chelating conditions of pH 6.0,time 4 h,and temperature 60°C.Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy results showed important sites for Cr(III)-binding were O–H and C=O groups.We then studied the hypolipidemic effects of SRPE-3-Cr(III)on type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM)induced by a high-fat,high-sucrose diet(HFSD).Decreased blood glucose content,body fat ratio,serum TG,TC,LDL-C,and increased serum HDL-C were observed after treatment with SRPE-3-Cr(III).In addition,SRPE-3-Cr(III)significantly reduced leptin,resistin,and TNF-αlevels,and increased adiponectin contents relative to T2DM.Histopathology results also showed that SRPE-3-Cr(III)could alleviate the HFSD-lesioned tissues.SRPE-3-Cr(III)also improved lipid metabolism via a reduction in aspartate aminotransferase,alanine aminotransferase,fatty acid synthase,and acetyl-CoA carboxylase activities in the liver.SRPE-3-Cr(III)at low doses exhibited better lipid-lowering activities,hence,could be considered to be a novel compound to treat hyperlipidemia and also act as an anti-diabetic agent.
