A MOF/poly(thioctic acid)composite for enhanced gold extraction from water matrices

With the fast generation of electronic waste(e-waste)and the increasing depletion of metal resources,“urban mining”that can selectively recover gold from secondary resources has attracted great interest.Construction of materials with high extraction capacity and satisfying selectivity in complex aqueous-based matrices still remains challenging.Here,a novel metal-organic framework/polymer composite(Fe-BTC/poly(thioctic acid),denoted as Fe-BTC/pTA)has been newly synthesized and applied for selective gold recovery in different matrices(river water,seawater,and leaching solution of e-waste).Benefiting from the high specific surface area and suitable pore sizes as well as the rational design of active sites,the composite exhibits high adsorption capacity(920 mg/g),high removal efficiency(>99%),fast kinetics(below 0.1 ppb within 10 min),and good applicability in complex matrices,which are better than those of most reported sulfur-containing adsorbents.Solid-state metallic gold with high purity can be effectively enriched due to the high recyclability and long-term stability of the composite.The material after adsorption can be further applied as a heterogeneous catalyst for water remediation due to the in situ generated gold nanoparticles by the redox reaction between Au(III)ions and the S-containing groups in the composites.

OsNAC5 orchestrates OsABI5 to fine-tune cold tolerance in rice

Due to its tropical origins,rice(Oryza sativa)is susceptible to cold stress,which poses severe threats to production.OsNAC5,a NAC-type transcription factor,participates in the cold stress response of rice,but the detailed mechanisms remain poorly understood.Here,we demonstrate that OsNAC5 positively regulates cold tolerance at germination and in seedlings by directly activating the expression of ABSCISIC ACID INSENSITIVE 5(OsABI5).Haplotype analysis indicated that single nucleotide polymorphisms in a NAC-binding site in the OsABI5 promoter are strongly associated with cold tolerance.OsNAC5 also enhanced OsABI5 stability,thus regulating the expression of cold-responsive(COR)genes,enabling fine-tuned control of OsABI5 action for rapid,precise plant responses to cold stress.DNA affinity purification sequencing coupled with transcriptome deep sequencing identified several OsABI5 target genes involved in COR expression,including DEHYDRATION-RESPONSIVE ELEMENT BINDING FACTOR 1A(OsDREB1A),OsMYB20,and PEROXIDASE 70(OsPRX70).In vivo and in vitro analyses suggested that OsABI5 positively regulates COR gene transcription,with marked COR upregulation in OsNAC5-overexpressing lines and downregulation in osnac5 and/or osabi5 knockout mutants.This study extends our understanding of cold tolerance regulation via OsNAC5 through the OsABI5-CORs transcription module,which may be used to ameliorate cold tolerance in rice via advanced breeding.

Two-dimension(2D)van der Waals heterojunction holds essential promise in achieving high-performance flexible near-infrared(NIR)photodetector.Here,we report the successful fabrication of ZnSb/Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x)MXene based flexible NIR photodetector array via a facile photolithography technology.The single ZnSb/Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x)photodetector exhibited a high light-to-dark current ratio of 4.98,fast response/recovery time(2.5/1.3 s)and excellent stability due to the tight connection between 2D ZnSb nanoplates and 2D Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x)MXene nanoflakes,and the formed 2D van der Waals heterojunction.Thin polyethylene terephthalate(PET)substrate enables the ZnSb/Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x)photodetector withstand bending such that stable photoelectrical properties with non-obvious change were maintained over 5000 bending cycles.Moreover,the ZnSb/Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x)photodetectors were integrated into a 26×5 device array,realizing a NIR image sensing application.

Characteristics of transfer zones under the influence of preexisting faults and regional stress transformation:Wenchang A subsag,Zhujiang River Mouth Basin,northern South China Sea

A transfer zone in rift basins preserves important information on regional tectonic evolution and plays significant roles in hydrocarbon accumulation.Based on the systematic analysis of 3D seismic data and hydrocarbon accumulation conditions,the geometry,kinematics,and reservoir control of a large synthetic overlapping transfer zone in the south of the Wenchang A subsag in the Zhujiang(Pearl)River Mouth basin were investigated.Results indicate that the development and evolution of the transfer zone was controlled by the interaction between pre-existing faults and regional stress transformation.The intense rifting of the main faults of the transfer zone controlled the development of source rocks and faultcontrolled slope break paleogeomorphology.The strike-slip overprint since the Oligocene is conducive to the formation of a large-scale fault-anticline trap,and the secondary faults in the transfer zone contribute to the hydrocarbon transportation.The conjugate intersection area of the NE-and NW-trending faults offers more opportunity for hydrocarbon migration and accumulation.

Glioblastoma(GBM)is a malignant brain tumor that grows quickly,spreads widely,and is resistant to treatment.Fibroblast growth factor receptor(FGFR)1 is a receptor tyrosine kinase that regulates cellular processes,including proliferation,survival,migration,and dif-ferentiation.FGFR1 was predominantly expressed in GBM tissues,and FGFR1 expression was negatively correlated with overall survival.We rationally designed a novel small molecule CYY292,which exhibited a strong affinity for the FGFR1 protein in GBM cell lines in vitro.CYY292 also exerted an effect on the conserved Ser777 residue of FGFR1.CYY292 dose-depen-dently inhibited cell proliferation,epithelial-mesenchymal transition,stemness,invasion,and migration in vitro by specifically targeting the FGFR1/AKT/Snail pathways in GBM cells,and this effect was prevented by pharmacological inhibitors and critical gene knockdown.In vivo experiments revealed that CYY292 inhibited U87MG tumor growth more effectively than AZD4547.CYY292 also efficiently reduced GBM cell proliferation and increased survival in orthotopic GBM models.This study further elucidates the function of FGFR1 in the GBM and reveals the effect of CYY292,which targets FGFR1,on downstream signaling pathways directly reducing GBM cell growth,invasion,and metastasis and thus impairing the recruitment,activation,and function of immune cells.

Oriented Generation of Novel Thermo-Sensitive Genic Male Sterile lines with Improved Grain Shape and Outcrossing Rate in Early-Season Rice

Two-line hybrid rice with excellent quality is preferred in the Chinese market.However,there is a trade-off between reducing costs for hybrid seed production and lowering the outcrossing rate of the sterile line,which is largely determined by the stigma exsertion rate(SER).In this study,we constructed mutants of male sterility lines with improved grain length(GL)and SER in three elite early-season indica rice varieties through targeted manipulation of the TMS5 and GS3 genes using CRISPR/Cas9-mediated multiplex systems.We obtained a series of marker-free gs3 single mutants and gs3tms5 double mutants with significantly higher SER,longer grains,and increased 1000-grain weight compared with the wild type(WT).Importantly,the typically thermo-sensitive genic male sterile(TGMS)trait with a higher SER was observed in gs3tms5 mutants,and their F1 hybrids exhibited remarkable improvements in grain shape and yield-related traits.Our findings provided an efficient method to generate new valuable TGMS germplasm with improved SER through the mutagenesis of GS3 and TMS5 synergistically,and demonstrated that GS3 had pleiotropic effects on grain size,SER,and grain quality in early-season indica rice.

A Hierarchical Method for Locating the Interferometric Fringes of Celestial Sources in the Visibility Data

In source detection in the Tianlai project,locating the interferometric fringe in visibility data accurately will influence downstream tasks drastically,such as physical parameter estimation and weak source exploration.Considering that traditional locating methods are time-consuming and supervised methods require a great quantity of expensive labeled data,in this paper,we first investigate characteristics of interferometric fringes in the simulation and real scenario separately,and integrate an almost parameter-free unsupervised clustering method and seeding filling or eraser algorithm to propose a hierarchical plug and play method to improve location accuracy.Then,we apply our method to locate single and multiple sources’interferometric fringes in simulation data.Next,we apply our method to real data taken from the Tianlai radio telescope array.Finally,we compare with unsupervised methods that are state of the art.These results show that our method has robustness in different scenarios and can improve location measurement accuracy effectively.

Melatonin activates the OsbZIP79–OsABI5 module that orchestrates nitrogen and ROS homeostasis to alleviate nitrogen-limitation stress in rice

Melatonin(Mel)has previously been reported to effectively alleviate nitrogen-limitation(N-L)stress and thus increase nitrogen-use efficiency(NUE)in several plants,but the underlying mechanism remains obscure.Here,we revealed that OsbZIP79(BASIC LEUCINE ZIPPER 79)is transcriptionally activated under N-L conditions,and its expression is further enhanced by exogenous Mel.By the combined use of omics,genetics,and biological techniques,we revealed that the OsbZIP79–OsABI5(ABSCISIC ACID INSENSITIVE 5)module stimulated regulation of reactive oxygen species(ROS)homeostasis and the uptake and metabolismof nitrogen under conditions of indoor nitrogen limitation(1/16 normal level).OsbZIP79 activated the transcription of OsABI5,and OsABI5 then bound to the promoters of target genes,including genes involved in ROS homeostasis and nitrogen metabolism,activating their transcription.This module was also indispensable for upregulation of several other genes involved in abscisic acid catabolism,nitrogen uptake,and assimilation under N-L and Mel treatment,although these genes were not directly transactivated by OsABI5.Field experiments demonstrated that Mel significantly improved rice growth under low nitrogen(L-N,half the normal level)by the same mechanism revealed in the nitrogen-limitation study.Mel application produced a 28.6%yield increase under L-N and thus similar increases in NUE.Also,two OsbZIP79-overexpression lines grown in L-N field plots had significantly higher NUE(+13.7%and+21.2%)than their wild types.Together,our data show that an OsbZIP79–OsABI5 module regulates the rice response to N insufficiency(N limitation or low N),which is important for increasing NUE in rice production.
