Bioinspired Passive Tactile Sensors Enabled by Reversible Polarization of Conjugated Polymers

Tactile perception plays a vital role for the human body and is also highly desired for smart prosthesis and advanced *** to active sensing devices,passive piezoelectric and triboelectric tactile sensors consume less power,but lack the capability to resolve static ***,we address this issue by utilizing the unique polarization chemistry of conjugated polymers for the first time and propose a new type of bioinspired,passive,and bio-friendly tactile sensors for resolving both static and dynamic ***,to emulate the polarization process of natural sensory cells,conjugated polymers(including poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophen e):poly(styrenesulfonate),polyaniline,or polypyrrole)are controllably polarized into two opposite states to create artificial potential *** controllable and reversible polarization process of the conjugated polymers is fully in situ ***,a micro-structured ionic electrolyte is employed to imitate the natural ion channels and to encode external touch stimulations into the variation in potential difference *** with the currently existing tactile sensing devices,the developed tactile sensors feature distinct characteristics including fully organic composition,high sensitivity(up to 773 mV N^(−1)),ultralow power consumption(nW),as well as superior *** demonstrations,both single point tactile perception(surface texture perception and material property perception)and two-dimensional tactile recognitions(shape or profile perception)with high accuracy are successfully realized using self-defined machine learning *** tactile sensing concept innovation based on the polarization chemistry of conjugated polymers opens up a new path to create robotic tactile sensors and prosthetic electronic skins.

Impact of polar lows on synoptic scale variability of Atlantic inflow in the Fram Strait

The Atlantic inflow in the Fram Strait（78°50′N） has synoptic scale variability based on an array of moorings over the period of 1998–2010. The synoptic scale variability of Atlantic inflow, whose significant cycle is 3–16 d, occurs mainly in winter and spring（from January to April） and is related with polar lows in the Barents Sea. On the synoptic scale, the enhancement（weakening） of Atlantic inflow in the Fram Strait is accompanied by less（more）polar lows in the Barents Sea. Wind stress curl induced by polar lows in the Barents Sea causes Ekman-transport,leads to decrease of sea surface height in the Barents Sea, due to geostrophic adjustment, further induces a cyclonic circulation anomaly around the Barents Sea, and causes the weakening of the Atlantic inflow in the Fram Strait. our results highlight the importance of polar lows in forcing the Atlantic inflow in the Fram Strait and can help us to further understand the effect of Atlantic warm water on the change of the Arctic Ocean.

A nonsmooth IMC method for mechanical systems with backlash

This paper proposes a discrete-time nonsmooth internal model control （NSIMC） approach for mechanical transmission systems described by so-called sandwich system with backlash. In this method, a dynamic compensator is introduced to compensate for the effect of the input linear subsystem. Thus, the sandwich systems with backlash can be simplified as a pseudo-Hammerstein system with backlash. The corresponding NSIMC strategy is designed to control this system. The design procedure of the controller is presented based on the analysis on the robust stability by considering the model errors involved with the effect of backlash as well as the compensated error of the input linear subsystem. Moreover, as the model is switched among the different operating zones, the robust filters are proposed to guarantee the robust stability and satisfactory control performance of the system.

In this paper,the authors propose a neural network architecture designed specifically for a class of Birkhoffian systems—The Newtonian *** proposed model utilizes recurrent neural networks(RNNs)and is based on a mathematical framework that ensures the preservation of the Birkhoffian *** authors demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed model on a variety of problems for which preserving the Birkhoffian structure is important,including the linear damped oscillator,the Van der Pol equation,and a high-dimensional *** with the unstructured baseline models,the Newtonian neural network(NNN)is more data efficient,and exhibits superior generalization ability.

Dislocation ordering and texture strengthening of naturally aged Al-Cu-Mg alloy

Stability of grain structure,dislocation ordering and strengthening mechanisms of the naturally aged AlCu-Mg alloy after solution treatment are investigated by using optical microscope(OM),scanning electron microscope(SEM),electron back-scattered diffraction(EBSD),X-ray diffraction(XRD) and transmission electron microscope(TEM).Results show that {100},{100},{110} and {110}slip systems can be activated after solution treatment,which can promote the formation of {110}Goss *** combination effect of T-Al_(20)Cu_(2) Mn_(3) phase and Goss-oriented grains with large Taylor factor makes the solution-treated alloys display excellent stability of grain *** enhanced yield strength of the alloy is ascribed to grain-refine strengthening,dispersed particles strengthening,dislocation strengthening and texture *** coarsening of the second phase is responsible for softening of the alloy after annealing at 400 ℃+solution treatment at 475 ℃.

Design for manufacturability and reliability in extreme-scaling VLSI

In the last five decades, the number of transistors on a chip has increased exponentially in accordance with the Moore’s law, and the semiconductor industry has followed this law as long-term planning and targeting for research and development. However, as the transistor feature size is further shrunk to sub-14 nm nanometer regime, modern integrated circuit(IC) designs are challenged by exacerbated manufacturability and reliability issues. To overcome these grand challenges, full-chip modeling and physical design tools are imperative to achieve high manufacturability and reliability. In this paper, we will discuss some key process technology and VLSI design co-optimization issues in nanometer VLSI.

A magnetic state equation of the MnFeP0.45As0.55 compound has been obtained by minimizing the Gibbs free energy with respect to the volume and the magnetization based on the Bean-Rodbell model. The isothermal magnetization of the compound has been calculated using this equation. The magnetic entropy change of the compound was determined from the surface area between the two adjacent isothermal magnetization curves divided by the average temperature. A comparison and an error analysis of the calculated magnetic entropy change and the one determined from the experimental data were given.

Design approaches for active,semi-active and passive control systems based on analysis of characteristics of active control force

In this paper, the characteristics of forces in active control systems connected to adjacent levels of a building are analyzed. The following characteristics are observed：（1） active control can provide significantly superior supplemental damping to a building, but causes a small frequency shift; （2） the linear quadratic regulator （LQR）-based control force is composed of an elastic restoring force component and a damping force component, where the damping force is almost identical to the total control force, however, the elastic restoring force is very small; and （3） the active control forces prevent mction most of the time during the entire control process. These three characteristics imply that active control systems connected to adjacent levels of a building behave like passive damping devices with adjustable parameters, namely damping characteristics in an active control, which is the mechanism used by semi-active control devices to reach similar performance as active control systems. Two indices are defined to quantify the damping characteristics of control forces in active control systems. These two indices can also be used to quantify the capacity of semi-active control to achieve the perfonrlance of active control. Based on the above observations, two principles are founded for optimization of parameters of semi-active control devices and passive dampers. The first is that the maximum output force of a semi-active or passive device to be designed is identical to an active device, called ＂design principle＂. The other is the response equivalent principle, which states that the response of a building with semi-active or passive devices is the same as with active devices when the same maximum output force is applied. The design procedure for semi-active control devices and passive dampers is described in detail. Porous silica particles have shown great potential application as reinforcing fillers in the field of dentistry due to their ability to construct the micromechanical interlocking effect at filler-matrix ***,how to accurately regulate the pore structure,especially the pore size,to increase the degree of the micromechanical interlocking and the performance of materials remains a ***,we have proposed a facile self-assembly process to synthesize dendritic porous silica with tunable pore sizes(DPS-x)by adjusting the chain-length of the alcohols in the *** mechanism of nucleation-growth is further put *** results indicate that the pore size of DPS-x indeed affects the mechanical property of composites,where the DPSpen particles with intermediate pore size are chosen as the optimal reinforcing *** bimodal and multimodal filler formulations are further established to address the loading limitation of unimodal DPS-pen(46 wt.%).In virtue of the closepacked structure of identical spheres,the particle sizes of secondary silica embedded into the maximally loaded bimodal D3S7 composite(DPS-pen:Si430=30:70,w/w)are theoretically calculated without *** all formulations,the developed multimodal D3S7+Si178+Si90 filler exhibits superior mechanical properties,the lowest shrinkage,and high polymerization conversion for dental composites,along with satisfied waster sorption and solubility,and good biocompatibility in vitro and in vivo,which are comparable to commercial composite z350 XT(3M,USA).These DPS-x particles and their multimodal fillers can also be applied to other polymer-based biomaterials.

The small GTPase RABA2a recruits SNARE proteins to regulate the secretory pathway in parallel with the exocyst complex in Arabidopsis

Delivery of proteins to the plasma membrane occurs via secretion,which requires tethering,docking,priming,and fusion of *** yeast and mammalian cells,an evolutionarily conserved RAB GTPase activation cascade functions together with the exocyst and SNARE proteins to coordinate vesicle transport with fusion at the plasma ***,it is unclear whether this is the case in *** this study,we show that the small GTPase RABA2a recruits and interacts with the VAMP721/722-SYP121-SNAP33 SNARE ternary complex for membrane *** immunoprecipitation coupled with mass spectrometry analysis followed by the validatation with a series of biochemical assays,we identified the SNARE proteins VAMP721 and SYP121 as the interactors and downstream effectors of *** expreiments showed that RABA2a interacts with all members of the SNARE complex in its GTP-bound form and modulates the assembly of the VAMP721/722-SYP121-SNAP33 SNARE ternary ***,we did not observe the interaction of the exocyst subunits with either RABA2a or theSNARE proteins in several different *** RABA2a inactivation affects the subcellular localization or assembly of the exocystnor the exocyst subunit mutant exo84b shows the disrupted RABA2a-SNARE association or SNARE assembly,suggesting that the RABA2a-SNARE-and exocyst-mediated secretory pathways are largely ***,our live imaging experiments reveal that the two sets of proteins follow non-overlapping trafficking routes,and genetic and cell biologyanalyses indicate that the two pathways select different ***,we demonstrate that the plant-specific RABA2a-SNARE pathway is essential for the maintenance of potassium homeostasis in Arabisopsis ***,our findings imply that higher plants might have generated different endomembrane sorting pathways during evolution and may enable the highly conserved endomembrane proteins to participate in plant-specific traffi
