Decadal Variations of Intense Tropical Cyclones over the Western North Pacific during 1948–2010

Using Joint Warning Typhoon Center （JTWC） best track data during the period 1948-2010, decadal and interdecadal changes of annual category 4 and 5 tropical cyclone （TC） frequency in the western North Pacific basin were examined. By allowing all of the observed TCs in the JTWC dataset to move along the observed TC tracks in a TC intensity model, the annual category 4 and 5 TC frequency was simulated. The results agreed well with observations when the TC intensity prior to 1973 was adjusted based on time-dependent biases due to changes in measurement and reporting practices. The simulated and adjusted time series showed significant decadal （12-18 years） variability, while the interdecadal （18-32 years） variability was found to be statistically insignificant. Numerical simulations indicated that changes in TC tracks are the most important factor for the decadal variability in the category 4 and 5 TC frequency in the western North Pacific basin, while a combined effect of changes in SST and vertical wind shear also contributes to the decadal variability. Further analysis suggested that the active phase of category 4 and 5 TCs is closely associated with an eastward shift in the TC formation locations, which allows more TCs to follow a longer journey, favoring the development of category 4 and 5 TCs. The active phase corresponds with the SST warming over the tropical central and eastern Pacific and the eastward extension of the monsoon trough, thus leading to the eastward shift in TC formation locations.

Electrospinning and calcination technique have been combined to fabricate N-doped carbon nanofibers(N-CNFs)by introducing amino grafted few-layered hexagonal boron nitride(amino@BN)into polyacrylonitrile(PAN)matrix as filler followed by *** the high N-doping level(10.7%,atomic fraction)with the final product,the as-prepared N-CNFs exhibit interesting surface wettability(superamphiphilicity in air and underwater oleophilicity).Moreover,compared with pristine PAN derived carbon nanofibers(marked as CNFs),N-CNFs exhibit higher graphic structure under fixed carbonizing temperature as *** these advantages aforementioned,the as-prepared N-CNFs exhibit good specific capacitance(ca.200.1 F/g)without activation treatment at the current density of 0.5 A/g in three-electrode configuration,which is about 149%that of CNFs(ca.134 F/g).What’s more,our N-CNFs also display the unexpected capacity to demulsify diverse surfactant free oil-in-water emulsions by simple filtration in large scale with the high water flux ca.(23578±150)L·m^(−2)·h^(−1).

Partial P-type metal ions doping(PPMID)is an alternative method to further enhance the gas sensing performance of N-type metal oxides(NMOs)in contrast to that of P-N metal oxides heterojunctions,but the influences of the introduction of PPMID on the grain size and oxygen vacancies of NMOs have been rarely ***,a simple and effective route has been demonstrated to address this problem with Cu^(2+)-doped SnO_(2) metastable solid solution nanofibers(CSMSSNs)as model and C_(2)H_(2) as target molecule by combining electrospinning and calcination *** seems that the introduction of PPMID can also affect crystal structure and oxygen vacancies of NMOs,proven by combining X-ray diffraction(XRD)and X-ray photoelectron spectra(XPS).Thus,PPD,crystal structure and oxygen vacancies have been combined to clarify the enhanced sensing performance of Cu-doped SnO_(2) metastable solid solution nanofibers angainst C_(2)H_(2).

A Self-certified Cross-Cluster Asymmetric Group Key Agreement for Wireless Sensor Networks

Wireless sensor networks have some obvious characteristics, such as communication range is limited, computing power is limited and energy is limited. Group key agreement in this environment requires a cross-cluster, computation and communication overhead are lightweight and highly safe group key agreement protocol. Aiming at these demands, the paper proposes a Self-certified cross-cluster Asymmetric group key agreement(SC-AGKA). To establish a lightweight and efficient group communication channel among sensor nodes. According to the cluster head as the bridge node to realize the sensor nodes in different cluster have the same group key information, and negotiate a pair of asymmetric group keys to realize the cross cluster secure communication. The group communication adopts asymmetric encryption mechanism. It realizes the group security communication mechanism of message sender unconstraint. The asymmetric group key agreement has the key self-certified, which does not need additional rounds to verify the correctness of group key. Proven and analysis show that the proposed protocol has the advantages of in security and energy consumption.

Cancer has become one of the biggest challenges in the development of modern medical science. In particular, many problems, such as low efficiency, severe side effects, metastasis, and tumor invasion, challenge the development of precise cancer therapy. Continuous advancements in medicine, however, have allowed clear differentiation between tumors and normal tissues that can be exploited for cancer therapeutics. Unlike normal cells, tumor cells have an uncontrollable growth and are infinitely proliferative. These physical, chemical, and biological differences (e.g., metabolic states, high cell density, ability to grow in hypoxic and low pH conditions, and expression of different specific receptors/ ligands) may provide a new perspective for the development of cancer therapeutics. Traditional antitumor drugs have disadvantages, such as poor solubility, insufficient bioavailability in the body, numerous side effects, and development of chemoresistance, all of which greatly limit their therapeutic efficacy.

To investigate the effects of salinity on early development of Chinese mitten crab ( Eriocheir sinensis ), and the salinity tolerance mechanism of embryos, different developmental stages of embryos (gastrula, eyespot and pre-hatching stage), and hatched stage I zoea and megalopa, were exposed to a range of salinities (1, 5, 10, 15 (control), 20, 25, 30, 35 and 40). Hatching, survival and molting were monitored. Effects of 24-hour hypersaline (35) and hyposaline (1) stress on egg diameter, water content, Na +/K +-ATPase (NKA) activity, and crustacean hyperglycemic hormone (CHH) gene mRNA expression in embryos and megalopa, are reported. Embryos are more tolerant of low (≤ 5) than high (≥25) salinities, with optimum ranges for gastrula and pre-hatching stage embryos being 5-20, and for eyespot embryo and stage I zoea, 10-20. Most megalopa can molt to the first juvenile instar by day 5 at salinities between 1 and 40, whereas molting of megalopa stages was delayed at 40. Hypersaline conditions resulted in a loss of moisture, reduction of egg volume, and a signifi cant increase in NKA activity and CHH mRNA expression at some developmental stages. Hyposaline conditions did not affect moisture content or egg volume, but resulted in decreased NKA activity and CHH mRNA expression in embryos. For megalopa stages, NKA activity was significantly upregulated following both hypo- and hypersaline stress. Our results suggest high salinity will inhibit development and hatching of E. sinensis embryos, and low salinity will affect the survival of their stage I zoea. Increased NKA activity in embryos and megalopa stages might indicate a hyporegulation response under hypersaline conditions. These findings provide useful information for spawning ground protection of indigenous E . sinensis and enrich the knowledge of embryonic tolerance mechanisms of hyperregulating crustaceans following osmotic stress.

The adsorption effects of several macroporousadsorption resins for gibberellic acid (GA3) were *** dynamic adsorption capacity is 58.38 mg/g drybeads for resin R4 and 96.46 mg/g dry beads for resin R5which is consistent with the surface area. Aqueous methanol(50%, V/V) is a good eluent and the yield of GA3 isabove 95%. The concentration of GA3 could increase fivefoldafter an adsorption-elution cycle and this is importantwhen considering further crystallization of GA3 in anindustrial process.

A new hybrid drying technique by combining microwave and forced convection drying within a rotary drum,i.e.,microwave rotary drying,was developed with the purpose to improve the uniformity of microwave *** a laboratory microwave rotary dryer,rewetted soybean was utilized as experimental material to study the effects of drum rotating speed,ventilation flow rate,and specific microwave power on the drying kinetics and cracking ratio of *** was found that,with rotation,the cracking ratio can be lowered but without distinct improvement in the drying *** ventilation flow rate and specific microwave power can improve the drying rate,but the cracking ratio also increases as a negative *** cracking ratio lower than 10%can be attained for ventilation flow rate lower than 2.0m^(3)·h^(–1) or specific microwave energy lower than 0.4kW·kg^(–1) in the present experiments.
