Using Longitudinal Fins to Improve the Melting Performance of Stearic Acid in Thermal Energy Storage Devices

The heat transfer efficiency of a thermal energy storage unit(TESU)can be improved by the addition of novel longitudinal fins.A series of TESUs are analyzed using the finite volume method(FVM)to determine the effect of fin angle on the heat transfer *** the fin angle increases,the TES rate first increases,then decreases,reaching a maximum rate at 60°,where the melting time is less by 30.9%,28.58%,21.99%,9.02%,and 18.1%than at 0°,15°,30°,45°,and 80°,*** addition,it is found that the melting time of the phase change material is significantly greater at the bottom of the *** time percentage of this stage decreases as the fin angle increases through these percentages by 7%,14%,23%,33%,and 20%,***,the response surface methodology(RSM)is applied to optimize the longitudinal fin by minimizing the total melting *** analysis concludes that a fin angle of 58.68°reduces the complete melting time of the stearic acid by 44%below the time at 0°.These findings fill a gap in knowledge of the effect on melting performance of the design angle of longitudinal fins and provide a reference for the design of horizontally placed longitudinal finned thermal energy storage units.

●AIM:To quantify the performance of artificial intelligence(AI)in detecting glaucoma with spectral-domain optical coherence tomography(SD-OCT)images.●METHODS:Electronic databases including PubMed,Embase,Scopus,ScienceDirect,ProQuest and Cochrane Library were searched before May 31,2023 which adopted AI for glaucoma detection with SD-OCT *** pieces of the literature were screened and extracted by two ***-analysis,Meta-regression,subgroup,and publication of bias were conducted by *** risk of bias assessment was performed in Revman5.4 using the QUADAS-2 tool.●RESULTS:Twenty studies and 51 models were selected for systematic review and *** pooled sensitivity and specificity were 0.91(95%ci:0.86–0.94,I2=94.67%),0.90(95%ci:0.87–0.92,I2=89.24%).The pooled positive likelihood ratio(PLR)and negative likelihood ratio(NLR)were 8.79(95%ci:6.93–11.15,I2=89.31%)and 0.11(95%ci:0.07–0.16,I2=95.25%).The pooled diagnostic odds ratio(DOR)and area under curve(AUC)were 83.58(95%ci:47.15–148.15,I2=100%)and 0.95(95%ci:0.93–0.97).There was no threshold effect(Spearman correlation coefficient=0.22,P>0.05).●CONCLUSION:There is a high accuracy for the detection of glaucoma with AI with SD-OCT *** application of AI-based algorithms allows together with“doctor+artificial intelligence”to improve the diagnosis of glaucoma.

The advent of“intelligent era”brings our life more convenience,but the electromagnetic radiation sur-rounding us not only greatly threatens human health,also makes information leakage and hidden trouble to national defense ***,it is very urgent to develop novel electromagnetic wave absorption materials with lightweight,strong absorption,tunable absorption frequency and broad band ***,a novel electromagnetic wave absorber is obtained by constructing La_(0.8)CoO_(3)-rGO nanocompos-ite,where La_(0.8)CoO_(3)nanoparticles are anchored on graphene nanosheets by the electrostatic interaction between GO and La_(0.8)CoO_(3).The effect of hybridization ratio of La_(0.8)CoO_(3)and rGO on microwave ab-sorption properties is carefully *** optimal reflection loss of La_(0.8)CoO_(3)-rGO nanocomposite can reach-62.34 dB with the maximum effective bandwidth of 6.08 GHz,presenting 48.78%and 245.45%increment compared to bare La_(0.8)CoO_(3)nanoparticles,*** effective absorption bandwidth covers a broad electromagnetic wave absorption band from Ku band to the C band by tailoring thickness of the absorbers from 2.4 mm to 4.4 *** fascinating electromagnetic wave absorption performance is attributed to the synergy effect of La_(0.8)CoO_(3)and rGO,which integrates magnetic and dielectric loss caused by resonance,conductance,relaxation,and scattering *** result confirms that La_(0.8)CoO_(3)-rGO nanocomposite is potential candidates toward high-efficiency microwave absorbers and provides a valuable pathway for designing high-performance microwave attenuation materials in the future.

Precipitation nowcasting,as a crucial component of weather forecasting,focuses on predicting very short-range precipitation,typically within six *** approach relies heavily on real-time observations rather than numerical weather *** core concept involves the spatio-temporal extrapolation of current precipitation fields derived from ground radar echoes and/or satellite images,which was generally actualized by employing computer image or vision ***,with stirring breakthroughs in artificial intelligence(AI)techniques,deep learning(DL)methods have been used as the basis for developing novel approaches to precipitation *** progress has been obtained in recent years,manifesting the strong potential of DL-based nowcasting models for their advantages in both prediction accuracy and computational *** paper provides an overview of these precipitation nowcasting approaches,from which two stages along the advancing in this field *** models that were established on an elementary neural network dominated in the first stage,while large meteorological models that were based on complex network architectures prevailed in the *** particular,the nowcasting accuracy of such data-driven models has been greatly increased by imposing suitable physical *** integration of AI models and physical models seems to be a promising way to improve precipitation nowcasting techniques further.

To the Editor: Cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (CSCC) originates from the keratinocytes of the epidermal layer and (or) its associated appendages, manifesting as a rapidly proliferating, highly destructive malignancy, with almost 20,000 cases occurring in China in 2022. The pathogenesis of CSCC is complex, but recent studies have made significant progress. Our previous research identified eight proteins, including actinin alpha 1 (ACTN1), tenascin C (TNC), fascin actin-bundling protein 1 (FSCN1), serpin family B member 1 (SERPINB1), ras-related protein 31 (RAB31), collagen type III alpha 1 chain (COL3A1), collagen type I alpha 1 chain (COL1A1), and cluster of differentiation 36 (CD36), which are markedly linked to CSCC invasion and metastasis. Besides, our subsequent assays also revealed the elevated serum level of ACTN1 in CSCC patients, which correlated with tumor cell differentiation, invasion depth, and primary tumor diameter. This underscores the potentially pivotal role of ACTN1 in CSCC pathogenesis. This study aimed to further investigate the role of ACTN1 in the pathogenesis of CSCC.

Effectiveness of Acupoint Application in Patients with Pharyngeal Pain: Evidence from CHUNBO, A Prospective Real-World Study

Objective: To assess the outcomes after acupoint application in patients with pharyngeal pain in a real-world settings, and analyze the characteristics of effective population and prescription characteristics of acupoint application. Methods: Based on CHUNBO platform, patients with pharyngeal pain who were candidates for acupoint application on the basis of physician-evaluation, were enrolled in a nationwide, prospective, 69-week multicenter observational study from August 2020 to February 2022. Propensity score matching(PSM) was used to match the confounding factors and the association rules were used to analyze the characteristics of effective population and prescription characteristics of acupoint application. Outcome assessments included the disappearance rate of pharyngeal pain(within 3, 7, and 14 days), disappearance time of pharyngeal pain, as well as adverse events. Results: Of 7,699 enrolled participants, 6,693(86.9%) received acupoint application and 1,450(21.7%) with non-acupoint application. After PSM, there were 1,004 patients each in the application group(AG) and non-application group(NAG). The disappearance rate of pharyngeal pain in the AG at 3, 7, and 14 days were all higher than those in the NAG(P<0.05). The disappearance time of pharyngeal pain in the AG were shorter than that in the NAG(logrank P<0.001, hazard ratio=1.51, 95% confidence interval: 1.41–1.63). The median age of effective cases was 4 years, mainly 3–6 years old(40.21%). The disappearance rate of pharyngeal pain in the application group with tonsil diseases was 2.19 times higher than that in the NAG(P<0.05). The commonly used acupoints for the effective cases were Tiantu(RN 22), Shenque(RN 8) and Dazhui(DU 14). The commonly used herbs for the effective cases were Natrii sulfas, Radix et Rhizoma Rhei, and Herba Ephedrae. Among them, Natrii sulfas was applied to RN 8 most frequently(support 84.39%).
