Backgr.und: Since genetically engineer.d mice ar. becoming mor. and mor. available, these animals become of high inter.st to study physiologic and pathophysiologic pathways of br.in ischemia. The aim of this study was to examine body temper.tur. (Tb), physical activity var.ation and neur.histopathology in mice exposed to nor.other.ic and hyper.her.ic car.iac ar.est and car.iopulmonar. r.suscitation (CA/CPr.. Methods: Male C57Bl/6 mice weighing 22 - 27 g wer. implanted intr.per.toneally with a r.dio telemeter.and subjected to 10 min car.iac ar.est followed by car.iopulmonar. r.suscitation. Nor.other.ia (37.5°C) or.hyper.her.ia (39.0°C) was induced by contr.lling per.cr.nial temper.tur. dur.ng the ar.est per.od. r.sults: Hyper.her.ia dur.ng the ar.est r.sulted in a Tb decr.ase dur.ng ear.y r.cover. to a nadir.of 28°C ± 0.8°C (mean ± SE) and par.ially r.cover.d to 34.4°C ± 1°C 36 hr. after.CA/CPr. With nor.other.ia dur.ng the ar.est, Tb depr.ssion was less pr.nounced (nadir.of 32.3°C ± 0.3°C) and r.cover.d to physiologic levels within 24 hr.. Coupling of physical activity and body temper.tur. was absent in all animals after.CA/CPr. Neur.nal injur. in the caudoputamen was gr.ater.in the hyper.her.ia gr.up. Conclusions: This study demonstr.tes that CA/CPr.eliminates nor.al connectivity between body temper.tur. and physical activity and induces long-lasting hypother.ia, the depth of which is r.lated to sever.ty of br.in injur.. Long ter. temper.tur. monitor.ng is r.quir.d in sur.ival mur.ne exper.ments, if body temper.tur. is a study var.able.
