Stability Analysis of Equilibrium Manifolds for a Two-Predators One-Prey Model

The objective of this paper is to analyze the stability of equilibrium manifolds for a ratio-dependent two-predators one-prey model. Some model results are presented first with the bifurcation without parameters method, and then the method was used to study bifurcation along the equilibrium manifold for the model The model does not lose stability even when some equilibria are locally unstable because the equilibrium manifold is stable when treated as a whole. The ecological implications of the results are discussed.

How a membrane agent buys goods in a membrane store

In this paper we consider a specific model of membrane systems, i. e. membrane systems with attributes. In these systems, the information is placed at the membranes in form of attributes, no objects are considered inside the membranes except for other membranes. The membrane system with attributes evolves according to rules that compute new values for the attributes from the attributes assigned to the membranes involved in the rule. The model of membrane systems with attributes allows us to specify business transactions in a precise way and to simulate different models for such transactions with a suitable tool for membrane systems with attributes.

Noninvasive diagnosis of hepatic fibrosis in chronic hepatitis C

Assessment of hepatic fibrosis is important for determining prognosis,guiding management decisions,and monitoring disease. Histological evaluation of liver biopsy specimens is currently considered the reference test for staging hepatic fibrosis. Since liver biopsy carries a small but significant risk,noninvasive tests to assess hepatic fibrosis are desirable. This editorial gives an overview on noninvasive methods currently available to determine hepatic fibrosis and their diagnostic accuracy for predicting significant fibrosis and cirrhosis in chronic hepatitis C. Based on available data,the performance of simple tests derived from routine laboratory parameters appears to be similar to that of more complex and expensive fibrosis panels. Transient elastography seems more accurate than blood tests for diagnosing cirrhosis.

Pneumatic Measurements Downstream of a Radial Turbine Nozzle Cascade

This paper deals mainly with pneumatic measurements on a radial turbine nozzle cascade. The fill radial cascade guarantees the exit flow field periodicity downstream of it. A special traversing mechanism with a five - hole conical probe moving along a circular path behind the cascade was used for flow field investigation in this type of cascade with very low aspect ratio. The analyses of results of 2D and 3D pneumatic measurements including loss coefficient values are presented.

The arc furnace technology is an ideally suited process for the treatment of hazardous and problematic waste. The operation conditions of the furnace can be adapted for optimal transformation of the waste material input into raw materials and usable products. The process can significantly reduce the impact of contaminated wastes and industrial residues, and enable material conversion and separation. Thus, the products of the process have various applications. The capability of the process is illustrated with three examples, the treatment of bottom ash and filter ash from waste incineration plants, of stainless steel slags and of chromium-containing residues from the refractory industry.

In 1891, at the 5th International Geological Congress in Washington DC, it was suggested that Switzerland should host the 1894 Congress. Since Switzerland had not issued an official invitation for the 6th International Geological Congress, the Swiss geologists accepted somewhat reluctantly. The general lectures still con- cerned problems of classification. The most interesting discussions had to do with the structure of the Alps. The conference took place at a time between the first recognition of nappes and the general acceptance of their existence. The proponents of the nappe concept （Bertrand, Schardt; later Suess and Lugeon; modified versions： Rothpletz, Golliez） and the autochthonists （Heim, Baltzer; essentially also Renevier and Schmidt） opposed each other fiercely, before the question was finally resolved at the turn of the century.

Effect of yttrium on photosynthesis and water relations in young maize plants

Despite an increase in spectrum of industrial applications of yttrium （Y） and the fact that it is widely present in the soils and plants, some of which are agronomically important crops, its effects on plant growth and metabolism are still obscure. Therefore, the aim of this work was to examine the effect of different concentrations of Y on its accumulation and distribution, photosynthetic responses, water relations, free proline concentration and growth of young maize plants. The experiment was done with maize （Zea mays L., hybrid NS-640）, in water cultures, under semi-controlled conditions of a greenhouse. Plants were supplied with half-strength complete Hoagland nutrient solution, to which was added either 0 （control）, 10-5, 10-4 or 10-3 mol/L Y, in the form of Y（NO）3·5H2O. Each variant was set in thirteen replications, with six plants in each replication. Plants were grown for 21 d and they were at the stage of 3 and 4 leaves when they were analyzed. The presence of Y reduced maize growth and photosynthetic performance. Dimensions of stomata significantly decreased while their density significantly increased on both adaxial and abaxial epidermis. Plant height, root length, total leaf area and dry mass also declined. Concentration of photosynthetic pigments （chl a and b and carotenoids） and free proline decreased. Photosynthesis and transpiration were impaired in the presence of Y-their intensities were also reduced, and the same stands for stomatal conductance of water vapor, photosynthetic water use efficiency （WUE） and water content. Although the highest concentration of Y was found in maize roots in each treatment, Y concentration in the second leaf and shoot also significantly increased with an increase in Y concentration in the nutrient solution. Albeit Y concentration was much higher in roots than in shoots, shoot metabolism and growth were much more disrupted. The results demonstrated that young maize plants accumulated significant amount of Y and that th
