The evacuated-tube collector(ETC)for solar heat production is one of the most efficient systems to convert Sun energy into usable ***,some technological barriers are still present in solar-thermal heat systems that limit the use of these technologies to decarbonize *** important obstacle is the requirement for heat at stable temperatures,which is not always achievable by solar fields,*** *** that reason,in this work,we studied the phase-change materials embedded in the ETC to keep stable the water temperature for a short period(minutes,hours).In this study,carnauba wax was used as a sustainable phase-change material(PCM),to avoid the use of PCM based on hydrocarbon *** PCM has been packaged using a polyethylene bag inserted into an ETC with heat-pipe technologies and *** collector has been tested outdoors under solar irradiation and under shading *** experimental results show that is possible to detect a sensible effect of the PCM on the temperature using 4 kg of carnauba wax while there is an important effect on the temperature stabilization using 9 kg of *** 9 kg of the PCM,we observed a stability of the outlet water temperature at 65°C for 30 minutes under shading conditions.

The history of procedures for liver regeneration in the context of extended resections changed with the incorporation of Associating Liver Partition to Portal Vein Ligation in Two-Staged Hepatectomy(ALPPS)(1).The main well-known advantages of the ALPPS procedure are a fast and feasible increase in liver volume within a short period of time which leads to a second-stage procedure in 2-3 weeks.

Lizards have been reported as important pollinators on several oceanic *** we evaluate the potential role of Galápagos lava lizards(Microlophus spp.)as pollinators across their *** 3 years,we sampled pollen transport by 9 lava lizard species on the 10 islands where they are present,including 7 single-island ***,only 25 of 296 individuals sampled(8.4%)transported pollen of 10 plant species,the most common being Prosopis juliflora,Exodeconus miersii,Sesuvium *** Cordia *** least 8 of these plant species were native,and none were confirmed as introduced to the *** the low overall proportion of individuals carrying pollen,this was observed in 7 of the nine lizard species,and on 8 of the ten main islands(Española,Fernandina,Floreana,Isabela,Marchena,Pinta,Santa Cruz and Santiago),suggesting that this is a widespread *** results reported here support the potential role of lava lizards as pollinators across their radiation,although they may represent a relatively modest contribution when compared with birds and ***,we cannot discard that lizards may be ecologically significant for particular plant species and ecosystems given the specific climatic condition and functional diversity of each island.

The wastes used to amend soils sometimes have high concentrations of metals such as nickel(ni), lead(Pb) and zinc(Zn). To determine the capacity of soils to retain these metals, the sorption capacities of different mine soils with and without reclamation treatments(tree vegetation and waste amendment) for ni, Pb and Zn in individual and competitive situations were evaluated using the batch sorption technique. The untreated settling pond soil had low capacity for ni, Pb and Zn retention. The site amended with wastes(sewage sludges and paper mill residues) increased the sorption capacity most, probably because of the higher concentrations of soil components with high retention capacity such as carbon and clay fraction. no significant competition was observed between metals in the competitive sorption experiment, indicating that the maximum of sorption was not achieved by adding 0.5 mmol L^(-1) of metal. We can conclude that, despite the possible additions of ni, Pb and Zn from wastes to degraded soils, sewage sludges and paper mill residues have a high sorption capacity that would prevent the metals from being in a mobile form.

Cancelable biometrics are a group of techniques to transform the input biometric to an irreversible feature intentionally using a transformation function and usually a key in order to provide security and privacy in biometric recognition *** transformation is repeatable enabling subsequent biometric *** paper introduces a new idea to be exploited as a transformation function for cancelable biometrics aimed at protecting templates against iterative optimization *** proposed scheme is based on time-varying keys(random biometrics in our case)and morphing *** experimental implementation of the proposed scheme is given for face *** results confirm that the proposed approach is able to withstand leakage attacks while improving the recognition performance.

This study aimed to determine the correlation between Big Five personality traits and Internet addiction among Filipinos living in China’s *** study employed the neuroticism Extraversion Openness Five-Factor Inventory（nEO-FFI）and the Internet Addiction Test（IAT）.There were 373 respondents,of which 192 were female（51.5%）,and 181 were male（48.5%）.The results showed that 68% of the population（n=254）exhibit Internet addiction,while 32% of the population（n=119）do not exhibit Internet *** coefficient correlation revealed significant values for neuroticism（r=0.128,α = 0.05）,Openness（r=-0.112,α = 0.05）,Agreeableness（r=-0.106,α = 0.05）and Conscientiousness（r=-0.147,α = 0.01）.Multiple regression analysis revealed that Conscientiousness is the only personality trait that could predict five percent（5%）of the variance in IAT scores（F=3.92,p=0.026）.

The Galápagos are considered a model oceanic archipelago,with unique flora and fauna currently threatened by alien invasive *** dispersal is an important ecosystem function with consequences for plant population dynamics and vegetation ***,understanding the seed dispersal abilities of the assemblages of frugivores will inform scientists and managers of the dynamics of plant invasions and improve management *** we provide the first comprehensive review of published information on frugivory and animal seed dispersal in the Galá*** collected data from a variety of sources,including notes of the first naturalist expeditions,gray literature available only in Galápagos collections,and peer-reviewed journal ***–animal frugivorous interactions were retrieved from 43 studies and compiled into an interaction matrix describing 366 unique *** studies focused on fruit consumption as a driving force for natural selection,but seed fate was seldom *** most(71%)of the interactions involved native plants,more than one-quarter(28%)involved introduced *** involving birds are considerably more common than those of reptiles and mammals,probably reflecting a research bias towards *** the historical importance of the archipelago as the laboratory for evolutionary and ecological research,understanding of its seed dispersal systems is *** end the review by suggesting 3 priority areas of research on frugivory and seed dispersal in the Galápagos:(i)target research to close knowledge gaps;(ii)the use of a network approach to frame seed dispersal at the community level;and(iii)evaluation of the effect of seed dispersal as a selective pressure acting upon plants and ***,the output of this research has to be properly delivered to the Galápagos national Park Services to help increase management effectiveness.

Purpose:To evaluate the potential clinical usability of a new prototype of ophthalmic blue light filters developed by using electrochromic technology in pseudophakic patients complaining of ***:A prototype of electrochromic device was developed,with a specific frame that enclosed an electronic driver that allowed personalizing its function for each patient.A pro-spective,observational case series study was performed to test *** patients who had un-dergone cataract surgery with clear intraocular lenses and complaining of glare were included in the *** outcome measures were the results obtained in the satisfaction questionnaire that was delivered to ***,visual acuity,contrast sensitivity,and reading ability data were evaluated with and without the prototype under diferent lighting conditions and different modes of the prototype after a complete month of *** transmittance was also ***:Visual acuity,contrast sensitivity and reading function did not change significantly with prototype *** main activity for which the prototype was used was *** one patient found that the dimming level was *** patients reported variable discomfort when passing tunnels,not sufficiently clear indoors,or put on and remove *** lenses slightly decreased their transmittance at the end of the ***:Glasses based on elect rochromic technology may be acceptable for outdoor/indoor use and for distance-near *** studies with larger samples must be conducted to confirm the clinical usability of these glasses.
