Correlative spatter and vapour depression dynamics during laser powder bed fusion of an Al-Fe-Zr alloy

Spatter during laser powder bed fusion(LPBF)can induce surface defects,impacting the fatigue performance of the fabricated ***,we reveal and explain the links between vapour depression shape and spatter dynamics during LPBF of an Al-Fe-Zr aluminium alloy using high-speed synchrotron x-ray *** quantify the number,trajectory angle,velocity,and kinetic energy of the spatter as a function of vapour depression zone/keyhole morphology under industry-relevant processing *** depression zone/keyhole morphology was found to influence the spatter ejection angle in keyhole versus conduction melting modes:(i)the vapour-pressure driven plume in conduction mode with a quasi-semi-circular depression zone leads to backward spatter whereas;and(ii)the keyhole rear wall redirects the gas/vapour flow to cause vertical spatter ejection and rear rim droplet *** the opening of the keyhole or vapour depression zone can reduce entrainment of solid *** discover a spatter-induced cavity mechanism in which small spatter particles are accelerated towards the powder bed after laser-spatter interaction,inducing powder denudation and cavities on the printed *** quantifying these laser-spatter interactions,we suggest a printing strategy for minimising defects and improving the surface quality of LPBF parts.

Using a Macroalgal Functional Form Approach to Assess the Level of Disturbance of Seagrass Meadows in Bahía of nuevitas,Cuba(2000-2002)

A study on the spatial and seasonal variations of the associate macroalgae and epiphytes of Thalassia testudinum was carried out in Bahía de nuevitas. Sixty-two species were identified: 3 Cyanophyta, 25 Chlorophyta, 8 Phaeophyceae, 23 Rhodophyta and 3 Magnoliophyta, with two new records for Cuba and 43 for the area. The differences in the specific composition of the macroalgae communities are determined by a space component related to the type of affectation in each area. The morpho-functional groups of macroalgae in the station with more nutrient influence were mainly foliaceous and filamentous. In the stations far from the city, the predominant morpho-types were the leathery and articulate calcareous indicators of lower nitrification levels. The abundance and diversity of macroalgae in the site affected by fisheries were lower due to the damage by bottom trawls. Seasonal variations were found in the relative abundance of the species, not in the diversity, which makes evident seasonal changes in the structure of the seaweeds, where some species replace others in the community.

Elaboration of an Easy Aqueous Sol-Gel Method for the Synthesis of Micro- and Mesoporous γ-Al2O3Supports

An aqueous sol-gel method for the synthesis of γ-Al2O3 supports has been developed for the use in tar reforming applications. It was determined the influences of two different aluminum precursors (aluminum sec-butoxide (Al[OCH(CH3)CH2CH3]3) and aluminum nitrate (Al(nO3)3)) on the textural and crystallographic properties of Al2O3 supports. Only the formation of γ-Al2O3 is aimed in order to use these alumina materials as catalytic supports, because it presents high specific surface area and pore volume values. Additionally, the synthesis of γ-Al2O3 was realized with the use of a functionalized silicon precursor, [3-(2-aminoethylamino)propyl]trimethoxysilane, called EDAS. By the presence of an ethylenediamine group in this molecule, it is possible to chelate metallic ions and to highly increase their dispersion at a molecular level during the synthesis of metallic catalysts supported on alumina, which is an asset for catalytic applications. So it was developed a synthesis sol-gel procedure for the cogelation between the functionalized silicon alkoxide EDAS and alumina precursor. The alumina supports synthesized with Al(nO3)3 as precursor presented higher porous values than the ones obtained with aluminium sec-butoxide precursor. Since nitrate salts are much easier to handle than alkoxides, these observations allowed validating Al(nO3)3 as aluminum source for the future synthesis procedures for metallic catalysts supported on alumina.

Background:Male sex workers are at high-risk for acquisition of sexually transmitted infections(STIs),including human immunodeficiency virus(HIV).We quantified incidence rates of STIs and identified their time-varying predictors among male sex workers in Mexico ***:From January 2012 to May 2014,male sex workers recruited from the largest HIV clinic and community sites in Mexico City were tested for chlamydia,gonorrhea,syphilis,hepatitis,and HIV at baseline,6-months,and *** nee rates with 95%bootstrapped confide nee limits were *** examined potential timevarying predictors using generalized estimating equations for a population averaged ***:Among 227 male sex workers,median age was 24 and baseline HIV prevalence was 32%.Incidence rates(per 100 person-years)were as follows:HIV[5.23;95%confidence interval(CI):2.15-10.31],chlamydia(5.15;95%CI:2.58-9.34),gonorrhea(3.93;95%CI:1.88-7.83),syphilis(13.04;95%CI:8.24-19.94),hepatitis B(2.11;95%CI:0.53-4.89),hepatitis C(0.95;95%CI:0.00-3.16),any STI except HIV(30.99;95%CI:21.73-40.26),and any STI including HIV(50.08;95%CI:37.6062.55).In the multivariable-adjusted model,incident STI(excluding HIV)were lower among those who reported consistently using condoms during anal and vaginal intercourse(odds ratio=0.03,95%CI:0.00-0.68)compared to those who reported inconsistently using condoms during anal and vaginal ***:Incidence of STIs is high among male sex workers in Mexico *** condom use is an important protective factor for STIs,and should be an important comp on ent of interventions to prevent incide nt infect i ons.

Marine algae have been used as food since ancient times and today are consumed as a regular part of the diet. In this study, we hypothesized that H. grandifolius phlorotannins-enriched extract exerts cytotoxic selective effects against tumor cell lines promoting cell death trough apoptosis mechanisms. The aim of the present study is to characterize chemically and investigate the selective cytotoxic effect of the H. grandifolius extract on epithelial tumour cell lines (A375, A549, Hep-2, HeLa) compared to non-malignant cell line (Hek-293), and evaluate possible molecular mechanisms involved in the programmed cell death pathway. High-resolution directly-infusion mass spectrometry (HR-DIMS) analysis with electrospray ionization (ESI) was performed in positive and negative mode. Cytotoxicity was evaluated through colorimetric assay and morphological alterations were observed in giemsa stained cells after extract treatment. Apoptosis was further evaluated by annexin V staining. Spectra showed peaks m/z between 370 and 430 and molecular formula was defined upon isotopic ratio. Extract showed selectivity to the non-tumor line with enhanced cytotoxicity in tumor cells according to the concentration and exposure time. After 72 h treatment, the HeLa strain was more susceptible to the extract, followed by lines Hep2, A375 and A549. Morphological changes by giemsa were observed after increased doses of extracts and staining for annexin V showed majority of tumor cells at early stages of the apoptotic process. Here, selective anti-tumor activity of extract taken from the alga H. grandifolius was able to suppress proliferation and promote apoptosis-mediated cell death with induction of initial stages of apoptosis in different cell lines.

The identification of jets originating from quarks and gluons,often referred to as quark/gluon tagging,plays an important role in various analyses performed at the Large Hadron Collider,as Standard Model measurements and searches for new particles decaying to quarks often rely on suppressing a large gluon-induced *** paper describes the measurement of the efficiencies of quark/gluon taggers developed within the ATLAS Collaboration,using √s=13 TeV proton–proton collision data with an integrated luminosity of 140 fb^(-1) collected by the ATLAS *** taggers with high performances in rejecting jets from gluon over jets from quarks are studied:one tagger is based on requirements on the number of inner-detector tracks associated with the jet,and the other combines several jet substructure observables using a boosted decision tree.A method is established to determine the quark/gluon fraction in data,by using quark/gluon-enriched subsamples defined by the jet *** in tagging efficiency between data and simulation are provided for jets with transverse momentum between 500 GeV and 2 TeV and for multiple tagger working points.
