The present paper describes the implementation of GPR 3D survey for detecting and delineating possible remains of hydrocarbon plumes on a gas station. The 3D-imaging was used for the detection of anomalous zones that were analyzed with some relevant signal attributes extracted by digital signal processing. These signal attributes or parameters have been the frequency of the maximum energy concentration on time-frequency distribution and instantaneous amplitude that could be related to the local response of the electromagnetic interaction and the presence of hydrocarbon plumes or soil contaminated areas. The implementation methodology took place at a gas station monitored with a piezometric sensor installation with soil layer information. The 3D-imaging of processed data and its slicing tool permits visualizing expected targets as pipes, tanks and installations in the subsoil exposing the anomalous zones for refined analyses. This further processing has used some spectral attributes of the signal to assess the real presence of the total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH) providing a new effort to simplify and overcome the current state of the geophysical methods able to assess the presence of hydrocarbon plumes in industrial environments regarding the time cost of the survey and the traceable indication of the spectral shiftment shown in the plume volume.

several mechanisms have been proposed in recent years to explain kinematic decoupled cores (KDCs) in early type galaxies as well as the large differences in angular momentum between KDCs and host galaxy. Most of the proposed scenarios involve large fractions of merging events, high speed interactions with dwarf spheroidal galaxies, cusp effect of the dark matter density profiles, etc. We here argue that counterrotation as well as fast and slow rotation of disks or spheroids at the center of galaxies can also be explained by a misalignment of the central spheroid equatorial plane with regard to that defined by the observed external stellar rotation. Contrary to what happens at the outer region of disk galaxies, once instability has led to the inner warped core, the perturbed orbits can maintain a common orientation due to the rigid body like rotation at the central region of the galaxy. The spatial configuration that furnishes the smallest angular momentum difference between the KDC and the host galaxy is completely defined by observed parameters in the plane of the sky, namely, the inclination of the inner and outer disks and the angle between the two lines of nodes. As an example we modeled the paradigmatic and extreme case of the 2D radial velocity field of nGC 4382 nucleus. Tilt angles of the KDC not larger than 30 degrees also allow explaining fast and low rotators of the called “sauron paradigm” in a unified scenario. The maximum for the three parameters, namely, velocity of the inner rotator, difference of position angle and difference with the outer rotation velocity of the whole sauron sample, are consistently correlated in agreement with the proposed scenario. These quantities do not correlate with the galaxies magnitude, mass (since large and dwarf spheroidals show apparent counterrotation as well) or environment, also suggesting that an internal phenomenon like the central spheroid warping, that we are here proposing, may be at work.

In the present work, novel blend polymer electrolyte membranes using poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA), doped with hypophosphorous acid (H3PO2) and reinforced with porous niobium oxide (nb2O5) microparticles in different compositions were prepared by the solution-casting technique. Their phase behavior and ionic conductivity were studied by differential scanning calorimetric (DsC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and impedance spectroscopy (Is) in the radio-frequency range. Using a constant H3PO2/PVA weigh ratio of 0.25, it was found that the water content in the blended hydrogel membranes increased with increasing the filler nb2O5 content, thus increasing the electrical conductivity. However, the suitable weight ratio of nb2O5:(H3PO2/PVA) for the blend performance (both mechanically and electrically) was x = 0.075, with a maximum ionic conductivity of 2.7?× 10﹣3 s·cm﹣1 at 120°C. For all blends prepared, the lost tangent plots show asymmetrical peaks, as a consequence of correlations in the mobile ion diffusion as a function of frequency. Although this “universal dynamic response” was observed at all temperatures, variations in the tan(δ) relaxation peaks indicate a decrease of ionic correlation when the temperature is increased. Both the dc conductivity and tan(δ) peaks frequency dependency are thermally activated, following an Arrhenius-type behavior with activation energy of the same order, indicating that the corresponding ionic processes have the same origin, i.e., proton jump among available sites in the polymer matrix. The additions of oxide particles to the membranes improve their thermal and electrical properties, attributed to an approximation effect.

An important percentage of colorectal cancer （CRC） patients will develop metastasis, mainly in the liver, even after a successful curative resection. This leads to a very high mortality rate if metastasis is not detected early on. Disseminated cancer cells develop from metastatic stem cells （MetsCs）. Recent knowledge has accumulated about these cells particularly in CRC, so they may now be tracked from the removed primary tumour. This approach could be especially important in prognosis of metastasis because it is becoming clear that metastasis does not particularly rely on testable driver mutations. Among the many traits supporting an epigenetic amplifcation of cell survival and self-renewal mechanisms of MetsCs, the role of many immune cell populations present in tumour tissues is becoming clear. The amount of tumour-infiltrating lymphocytes （T, B and natural killer cells）, dendritic cells and some regulatory populations have already shown prognostic value or to be correlated with disease-free survival time, mainly in immunohistochemistry studies of unique cell populations. Parallel analyses of these immune cell populations together with MetsCs in the primary tumour of patients, with later follow-up data of the patients, will define the usefulness of specific combinations of both immune and MetsCs cell populations. It is expected that these combinations, together to different biomarkers in the form of an immune score, may predict future tumour recurrences, metastases and/or mortality in CRC. It will also support the future design of improved immunotherapeutic approaches against metastasis.

Positron emission tomography/Computer tomography (PET/CT) is a multimodality imaging diagnostic technique that analyzes the uptake and retention of different radiopharmaceuticals by cells providing metabolic information on biochemical processes. PET/CT has been used for radiotherapy planning, providing useful information to the Radio-oncologist about the localization, size and metabolic activity of tumor lesions. In this paper, we show advantages of the 18F-FDG PET/CT respect to simple CT imaging for target volume delineation in patients with diagnosis of squamous Head and neck Carcinoma that has been scheduled to undergo a hypofractionated radiotherapy treatment. On ten studied patients, the target volume defined from PET/CT images was less extensive than those defined from simple CT images. In six patients the target volume was significantly less extensive and in two of them a new lymph node disease was reported, re-staging and corresponding target volume was also delineated with less extensive margins from PET/CT images. A greater accuracy in delineating the volumes and improving the distribution of doses in the planning of the radiant treatment in these patients was possible, allowing a high precision in the delivery of the prescribed dose to the target volume diminishing the maximum dose to the adjacent healthy tissues. In conclusion we show that the use of 18F-FDG PET/CT was superior than the simple CT as the primary modality of imaging for hypofractioned radiotherapy treatment planning in patients with squamous Head and neck Carcinoma.

Batch trials were carried out to determine the methane potential yields of some typical organic wastes generated in the region of Cantabria (spain): cocoa shell, cheese whey and sludges from dairy industry. Anaerobic co-digestion trials of these wastes with dairy manure were also investigated in batch at 35℃. Cheese whey obtained similar methane yields than dairy manure, between 17.5 and 19.3 l CH4kg-1 cheese whey compared with 18.0 l CH4kg-1 manure. Methane yields of various sludge samples collected from wastewater treatment facilities of dairy industries were influenced by its origin. sludge samples from fat separation devices were the most productive in terms of specific methane yields compared with biological sludge from an aerobic reactor. sludge samples from fat separator reached specific methane productivities of 350 and 388 l CH4kg-1 Vs (10.5 and 24.1 l CH4kg-1 sludge), whereas biological sludge yielded 125 l CH4kg-1 Vs (12.6 l CH4kg-1 sludge). The methane potential of sludge samples was influenced by solids content. Cocoa shell resulted to be an interesting waste for anaerobic digestion due to its high Vs content, yielding 195 l CH4kg-1 cocoa shell. It is a waste that can considerably improve methane yields in anaerobic co-digestion with dairy manure. However, at proportions of 10% cocoa shell, the process was hindered by hydrolysis of particulate matter. Anaerobic digestion at higher temperatures (thermophilic range) could be a better option for this kind of waste. Co-digestion of 5% cocoa shell with 35% dairy sludge and 60% dairy manure resulted in 80.5% higher methane production compared to anaerobic digestion of dairy manure alone.

The results obtained in this study highlight that further the macroalgae diversity in this region is even higher than what is reported to date. Here we present eight new records of marine macroalgae collected from the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica between March 2011 and May 2019. The morphological characteristics of Bryocladia cuspidata, Ceratodictyon variabile, Gracilaria hayi, Padina boergesenii, Zonaria tournefortii, sargassum furcatum, Chaetomorpha aerea, and Bryopsis pennata var. secunda are described. The genera Bryocladia and Zonaria are reported for the first time for this region.
