In order to assess the impact of the early and late tissue repair of Kombucha extract on incised wounds in animal models, 24 Wistar male rats were used and divided into three groups: one of the groups received a topical cure on the wound with Brosin, and the other received the Kombucha extract. The third group did not receive any treatment, working as a control group. The objective was to evaluate and compare the Kombucha extract with a commercial healing product. Each one of the animals took a 1 cm wound in depth and length at a femur level on a side of the left thigh. The healing process was evaluated on an early and late phase by performing a morphometric and morphological analysis under the assumption of a faster recovery with the use of Kombucha. The results showed that there was a poor recovery in the control group. On the other hand, the other two groups, Brosin and Kombucha, were similar, with little inflammation and a high cell proliferation and migration along with basal array pulls of elastin and collagen which served for angiogenesis, repair and renovation of the new tissue.

neuraxial anaesthesia is widely used in surgical procedures;overall, epidural and intrathecal techniques. nevertheless, several outcomes should be considered. The incidence of neurologic complications after neuraxial anaesthesia is not perfectly clear (0% - 0.08%), although there are several described cases of spinal cord ischemia. We present a case of thoracic unilateral spinal cord syndrome following lumbar spinal anaesthesia for periprosthetic knee fracture. Our patient suffered monoparesis in her left lower limb as well as decreasing of muscle strength and loss of tendon reflexes. The MnR showed left hyperintense intra-cord images from T7 to T12 attributed to spinal cord oedema and a lineal hypointensity related to minimal haematic component. What made this case surprising was the fact that spinal anaesthesia was performed between l3 and l4 and the patient did not suffer paraesthesia associated with local anaesthetic injection. she was treated with glucocorticoids, gabapentin and amitriptyline. she also was checked by physical rehabilitators, neurologists and Pain Unit physicians. We have found another case reported in the literature about thoracic cord injury after lumbar spinal puncture. In this paper, we report possible aetiologies according to a review and neurological evolution of the patient seven months later.

Rambutan growing in the state of Chiapas has brought about a demand for new plantations;however, this species has several biotic and abiotic factors that limit its production. These factors include phytosanitary problems, deficient agronomical handling, and production alternancy. Because of this, the objective of the present study was to evaluate the effect of the application of agronomical practices such as pruning, ringing, water stress, and their interaction on the rambutan alternancy. The experiment was carried out in the “la Chinita” commercial orchard located on KM. 4.5 the Huehuetan station, municipality of Huehuetan, Chiapas, Mexico. We used 48 rambutan trees in production with an age of 14 years. Two production cycles were evaluated. The experiment was established under a divided plot experimental design in random complete blocks with a factorial arrangement and six replicates;each tree being a replicate. The study factors were: water stress, pruning, girdling, irrigation (control), and their combinations, resulting in eight treatments. The evaluation was done during flowering, fruit set, and harvest. In flowering, the treatments with permanent irrigation in both evaluated cycles (2010-2011 and 2011-2012) manifested a production alternancy behavior, with an average 36.4% flowering in the first evaluation cycle and increased to 82.1% in the second cycle. The treatments with water stress kept a proportional flowering during the first and second cycles of 97.9% and 95.3%, respectively. The water stress influenced the bunch weight (PR) variable fruit set with bigger fruits and higher bunch weight than the irrigated treatments. In production, pruning and girdling together with water deficit had no alternancy in both production cycles.

Photothermal radiometric spectroscopy was employed for characterizing an aluminum automotive piston with a steel insert. Amplitude and phase thermal property differences allowed the mapping of both metals. Thermal images were generated by using table stages x-y movement. The thermal wave penetrated more deeply in aluminum than in steel. Results demonstrated that this relatively unknown, non-intrusively, non-contact, and non-destructive technique can be used for characterizing a wide variety of metals and other materials.

Kappaphycus alvarezii, a red macroalgal species native to south-East Asia, has been introduced for commercial purposes to more than 20 tropical countries. In 2000, Panama became the first Central American country to develop its cultivation following a pilot-commercial approach. Twelve years after his introduction to Panama, the species was found to the south Caribbean coast. In the present study, we report the first record of K. alvarezii collected in Costa Rican waters. Genetic identification of the sample was performed with the mitochondrial marker cox2-cox3 intergenic spacer, and phylogenetic analyses showed that the sample collected grouped into a monophyletic clade with GenBank sequences from Vietnam, Indonesia, the Philippines, Brazil and Venezuela. Here we provide further description of its position with respect to other strains of K. alvarezii collected globally. Its possible route of entry to the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica is discussed. To date, it is possible to locate K. alvarezii in different areas away from the production fields which show its dispersion, and that the species is expanding;but more studies are needed to know the phase of colonization in which it is located because it is a combination of natural factors and human exploitation that determines the invasive potential of the species.

The seasonal changes in the energy balance after the substitution of a herbaceous savanna by a Brachiaria field located in the Orinoco lowlands were assessed over an entire year using the eddy covariance technique. simultaneously, an herbaceous savanna was monitored as a control. This work provides evidence that the vegetation replacement lead to different patterns of energy and water balance. The seasonal trends of the latent heat flux (λE) to available energy (Ra) ratio tended to decrease as senescence increased due to seasonal influence of air humidity mole fraction deficit and soil water content on leaf area index (lAI) and surface conductance (gs). Therefore, the partitioning of the available energy depended on both climatological (i.e., solar radiation, volumetric soil water content and air humidity mole fraction deficit) and biological variables (i.e., conductance behavior and lAI) which were stress-induced. For the wet season, the seasonally averaged daily λE in the Brachiaria field (i.e., 0.8 ± 0.1 mm d^-1) was 1.3-fold higher than that in the herbaceous savanna (i.e., 0.6 ± 0.1 mm d-1)(Mann-Whitney U-test). For the dry season, the value was 2.7 ± 0.6 and 2.2 ± 0.4 mm d-1, respectively, these means values were not significantly different. In the Brachiaria and herbaceous savanna stands, the annual evapotranspiration was 731 and 594 mm year^-1, respectively, and the annual ratio of evapotranspiration to precipitation was 0.52 to 0.42 respectively. In Brachiaria field, the deep drainage was relatively lower (43% of total precipitation) than that in the herbaceous savanna stand (53%) leaving a similar amount of water to increase soil storage. The current shift in land cover decrease deep drainage and increased λE by water uptake from a pasture with high belowground phytomass and lAI.

The mixed micellization behavior of an amphiphilic antidepressant drug amitriptyline hydrochloride(AMT)in the presence of the conventional anionic surfactant sodium bis(2-ethylhexyl)sulfosuccinate(AOT)was studied at five different temperatures and compositions by the conductometric *** critical micelle concentration(cmc)and critical micelle concentration at the ideal state(cmcid)values show mixed micelle formation between the components(i.e.,drug and AOT).The micellar mole fractions of the AOT(X1)values calculated using the rubingh,Motomura,and Rodenas models show a higher contribution of AOT in the mixed *** interaction parameter(β)is negative at all temperatures and the compositions show attractive interactions between the *** activity coefficients(f1and f2)calculated using the different proposed models are always less than unity indicating non-ideality in the ***ΔGmΘ values were found to be negative for all the binary mixed ***,ΔHmΘ values for the pure drug as well as the drug-AOT mixed systems are negative at lower temperatures(293.15-303.15 K)and positive at higher temperatures(308.15 K and above).TheΔsmΘ values are positive at all temperatures but their magnitude was higher at T=308.15 K and *** excess free energy of mixing(ΔGex)determined using the different proposed models also explains the stability of the mixed micelles compared to the pure drug(AMT)and surfactant micelles.
