Re-folded structure of syn-orogenic granitoids(Padrón dome, nW Iberia):Assessing rheological evolution of cooling continental crust in a collisional setting

This contribution discusses about the rheological, kinematic and dynamic frameworks necessary to produce recumbent and upright folds from syn-orogenic granitic massifs that were formed during an early stage of magma genesis related to the onset of a migmatitic dome. Syn-kinematic granitoids occurring within the high-grade infrastructure of the Padron migmatitic dome(nW Iberia) are deformed into largescale recumbent folds(d_2) that are later affected by upright folds(d_3). Petrostructural analysis of a selected area of this dome reveals that after a period of crustal thickening(d_1), nnW-directed extensional flow gave way to recumbent folds and penetrative axial plane foliation(S_2). Superimposed subhorizontal compression resulted in upright folds(d_3). A closer view into the dynamics of the dome allows exploring the factors that may condition the nucleation of folds with contrasting geometries during progressive deformation of molten continental crust. The formation of folds affecting syn-kinematic granitoids suggests a cooling metamorphic path in migmatitic domes. Active and passive folding mechanisms require a crystallizing(cooling) magma to nucleate folds. A more competent metamorphic host inhibits fold nucleation from much less competent magmas. As it crystallizes, magma becomes more rigid(competent),and approaches viscosity values of its host. Passive folding is favored when no significant competence contrast exists between magma and host, so this folding mechanism is more likely shortly after magma genesis and emplacement. In such conditions, and under dominant subhorizontal flow accompanied by flattening(d_2),passive folding would produce isoclinal recumbent geometries. Further magma cooling introduces a shift into the rheological behavior of partially molten crust. The ionic liquid(IL) tributylmethylammonium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)amide([n4441][nTf2]) was used as neat lubricant and as an additive(1.5 wt%) in a polar oil to study its friction and wear reducing *** tests were completed for 90 minutes at room temperature and 100 °C in a reciprocating configuration at loads of 30 and 70 n,10 Hz-frequency,and 4 mm stroke *** volume was measured by confocal microscopy and the surface-IL interaction determined by *** main findings were that neat IL showed the best tribological behavior;the IL-containing mixture behaved similar to the base oil regarding friction,however outperformed the antiwear behavior of the base oil under higher temperature;surface-IL chemical interaction was found mainly at 100 °C.

Getting started in mapping-by-sequencing

next-generation sequencing （nGS） technologies allow the cost-effective sequencing of whole genomes and have expanded the scope of genomics to novel applications, such as the genome-wide characterization of intraspecific polymorphisms and the rapid mapping and identification of point mutations. next-generation sequencing platforms, such as the Illumina HiSeq2ooo platform, are now commercially available at affordable prices and routinely produce an enormous amount of sequence data, but their wide use is often hindered by a lack of knowledge on how to manipulateand process the information produced. In this review, we focus on the strategies that are available to geneticists who wish to incorporate these novel approaches into their research but who are not familiar with the necessary bioinformatic concepts and computational tools. In particular, we comprehensively summarize case studies where the use of nGS technologies has led to the identification of point mutations, a strategy that has been dubbed ＂mapping-by-sequencing＇, and review examples from plants and other model species such as Caenorhabditis elegans, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, and drosophila mela- nogaster. As these technologies are becoming cheaper and more powerful, their use is also expanding to allow mutation identification in species with larger genomes, such as many crop plants.

Management of betablocked patients after sustained virological response in hepatitis C cirrhosis

BACKGROUnd Current guidelines do not address the post–sustained virological response management of patients with baseline hepatitis C virus (HCV) cirrhosis and oesophageal varices taking betablockers as primary or secondary prophylaxis of variceal bleeding. We hypothesized that in some of these patients portal hypertension drops below the bleeding threshold after sustained virological response, making definitive discontinuation of the betablockers a safe option. AIM To assess the evolution of portal hypertension, associated factors, non-invasive assessment, and risk of stopping betablockers in this population. METHOdS Inclusion criteria were age > 18 years, HCV cirrhosis (diagnosed by liver biopsy or transient elastography > 14 kPa), sustained virological response after directacting antivirals, and baseline oesophageal varices under stable, long-term treatment with betablockers as primary or secondary bleeding prophylaxis. Main exclusion criteria were prehepatic portal hypertension, isolated gastric varices, and concomitant liver disease. Blood tests, transient elastography, and upper gastrointestinal endoscopy were performed. Hepatic venous pressure gradient (HVPG) was measured five days after stopping betablockers. Betablockers could be stopped permanently if gradient was discretion of the attending physician. RESULTS Sample comprised 33 patients under treatment with propranolol or carvedilol: median age 64 years, men 54.5%, median Model for End-Stage Liver disease (MELd) score 9, Child-Pugh score A 77%, median platelets 77.000 × 103/μL, median albumin 3.9 g/dL, median baseline transient elastography 24.8 kPa, 88% of patients received primary prophylaxis. Median time from end of antivirals to gradient was 67 wk. Venous pressure gradient was n 13 patients (39.4%). Plant-based bioproduction of insect sex pheromones has been proposed as an innovative strategy to increase the sustainability of pest control in ***,we describe the engineering of transgenic plants producing(Z)-11-hexadecenol(Z11-16OH)and(Z)-11-hexadecenyl acetate(Z11-16OAc),two main volatile components in many Lepidoptera sex pheromone *** assembled multigene dnA constructs encoding the pheromone biosynthetic pathway and stably transformed them into nicotiana benthamiana *** constructs contained the Amyelois transitella AtrΔ11 desaturase gene,the Helicoverpa armigera fatty acyl reductase HarFAR gene,and the Euonymus alatus diacylglycerol acetyltransferase EadAct gene in different *** the pheromone-producing plants showed dwarf phenotypes,the severity of which correlated with pheromone *** but one of the recovered lines produced high levels of Z11-16OH,but very low levels of Z11-16OAc,probably as a result of recurrent truncations at the level of the EadAct *** one plant line(SxPv1.2)was recovered that harboured an intact pheromone pathway and which produced moderate levels of Z11-16OAc(11.8μg g^(-1) FW)and high levels of Z11-16OH(111.4μg g^(-1)).Z11-16OAc production was accompanied in SxPv1.2 by a partial recovery of the dwarf ***1.2 was used to estimate the rates of volatile pheromone release,which resulted in 8.48 ng g-1 FW per day for Z11-16OH and 9.44 ng g^(-1 )FW per day for *** results suggest that pheromone release acts as a limiting factor in pheromone biodispenser strategies and establish a roadmap for biotechnological improvements.

Scheduling multi-tenant cloud workflow tasks with resource reliability

Resource reliability is crucial in scheduling workflow instances for different tenants. Both cloud resource reliability and precedence constraints in workflows bring about great challenges for these kinds of scheduling problems. In this paper, we construct a hybrid resource reliability model which is adaptively evaluated in every time window. The objective is to optimize the QoS(quality of service) for tenants which is measured by the introduced AISE(all instance success entropy) index. A scheduling algorithmic framework is proposed for the studied workflows which consider cloud resource reliability. deadline and budget division(Bd) methods are presented to divide deadlines and budgets of instances into those of tasks. A tenant sequence method is developed to determine the order of tenants. A task allocation strategy is investigated to schedule tasks that are ready to appropriate available resources. Parameters and algorithm component candidates are statistically calibrated over a comprehensive set of random instances using the analysis of variance technique. The performance of the proposed algorithm is also evaluated in practical instances.
