Numerical study on the effective thermal conductivity and thermal tortuosity of porous media with different morphologies

Effective thermal conductivity and thermal tortuosity are crucial parameters for evaluating the effectiveness of heat conduction within porous *** direct pore-scale numerical simulation method is applied to investigate the heat conduction processes inside porous structures with different *** thermal conduction performances of idealized porous structures are directly compared with real foams across a wide range of *** foam structures are reconstructed using X-ray computed tomography and image processing techniques,while Kelvin and Weaire-Phelan structures are generated through periodic unit cell *** detailed temperature fields inside the porous structures are determined by solving the heat conduction equation at the pore *** results present that the equivalent thermal conductivity of Kelvin and Weaire-Phelan structures is similar to and greater than that of the real foam structure with the same strut *** thermal tortuosity of real foam structure is relatively larger and the heat conduction path becomes straighter by adopting the anisotropic *** thermal tortuosity of the fluid channels for Kelvin,Weaire-Phelan,and real foam structures is close to *** thermal conductivity of porous structures with heat transfer fluid increases as the thermal conductivity ratio of fluid to solid becomes larger.A small porosity of porous media leads to a larger equivalent thermal conductivity due to the dominant contribution of porous skeleton in the heat conduction *** derived from parallel and series models,as well as the Maxwell-Eucken models,provide decent predictions of effective thermal conductivity,with an average error of less than 8%in the entire range of thermal conductivity ratio.

Effects of surface energy and substrate on modulus determination of biological films by conical indentation

Micro-/nano-indentation has become prevalent in evaluating the mechanical characteristics of biological samples,such as cells and ***,the existing contact models describing conical indentation ignore the joint effects of surface energy and substrate,and consequently cannot accurately extract the Young's modulus of biological samples deposited on *** finite element methods,we examine the conical indentation of biological films on substrates while taking surface energy into *** on the dimensional analysis,the explicit relationship between load and indentation depth is achieved for films with their moduli varying from 0.001 to 100 times that of the *** the classical Sneddon's model was employed to analyze the load-depth data,the measured modulus could reach 18 times the real modulus for films on harder substrates,but only 4%of the real modulus for films on softer ***,in micro-/nano-indentations,neglecting the contribution of surface energy would result in an overestimation of the Young's modulus of films depending on the contact *** analytical expression provided here can be utilized to precisely deduce the mechanical characteristics of biological films deposited on substrate from the load and indentation depth data of a conical indentation.

Ecological environmental quality evaluation and driving factor analysis of the Lijiang River Basin,based on Google Earth Engine

An active learning workflow for predicting hydrogen atom adsorption energies on binary oxides based on local electronic transfer features

Machine learning combined with density functional theory（DFT） enables rapid exploration of catalyst descriptors space such as adsorption energy, facilitating rapid and effective catalyst screening. However, there is still a lack of models for predicting adsorption energies on oxides,due to the complexity of elemental species and the ambiguous coordination environment. This work proposes an active learning workflow（Le NN） founded on local electronic transfer features（e） and the principle of coordinate rotation invariance. By accurately characterizing the electron transfer to adsorption site atoms and their surrounding geometric structures, Le NN mitigates abrupt feature changes due to different element types and clarifies coordination environments. As a result, it enables the prediction of *H adsorption energy on binary oxide surfaces with a mean absolute error（MAE） below 0.18 e V. Moreover, we incorporate local coverage（θl） and leverage neutral network ensemble to establish an active learning workflow, attaining a prediction MAE below 0.2 e V for 5419 multi-*H adsorption structures. These findings validate the universality and capability of the proposed features in predicting *H adsorption energy on binary oxide surfaces.

Predication of Selective Ring-opening Hydrogenolysis for Furfuryl Alcohol to Produce Pentanediol over Dual-atom Catalysts

Selective activation of C-O bond is of fundamental importance in the precise conversion of oxygenates into value-added compounds in an atom-economic and sustainable manner, and meanwhile, the structurally well-defined dual-atoms catalysts (DACs) have been scarcely investigated in this field. In this study, a series of transition metal DACs anchored on nitrogen-doped graphene (TM2/NC, TM=Pt, Ir, Rh, Pd, ru, Co, Ni and Cu) was constructed to make a comprehensive investigation of their selectivity in the hydrogenative transformation of furfuryl alcohol (FAL), an important biomass platform molecule, to 1,2-pentanediol (1,2-PeD) via selective cleavage of furanic C5-O bond, by density functional theory (DFT) calculations and microkinetic modeling. We found that Ir2/NC demonstrated a high selectivity for the cleavage of furanic C5-O bond to produce 1,2-PeD, while the production of THFAL or 1,5-pentanediol (1,5-PeD) on other TM2/NC catalysts are more favorable. Furthermore, we found that the selective C-O bond cleavage of FAL furan ring is affected by the orbital overlap between the d-orbitals of the anchored metal atoms and the p-orbitals of the adsorbed C atom in FAL, suggesting that the selectivity of the C-O bond cleavage is inextricably related with the electronic property of the anchored metals.
