Co-contaminants of microplastics in two seabird species from the Canadian Arctic

Through ingestion and subsequent egestion,Arctic seabirds can bioaccumulate microplastics at and around their colony breeding *** microplastics in Arctic seabirds have been well documented,it is not yet understood to what extent these particles can act as transport vehicles for plastic-associated contaminants,including legacy persistent organic pollutants(POPs),trace metals,and organic *** investigated the occurrence and pattern of organic and inorganic co-contaminants of microplastics in two seabird species from the Canadian Arctic-northern fulmar(Fulmarus glacialis)and black-legged kittiwake(Rissa tridactyla).We found that fulmars had higher levels of plastic contamination and emerging organic compounds(known to be plastic additives)than kittiwakes,whereas higher concentrations of legacy POPs were found in kittiwakes than the ***,fulmars,the species with the much larger foraging range(~200 km),had higher plastic pollution and overall contaminant burdens,indicating that birds may be acting as long-range transport vectors for plasticassociated *** results suggest a potential connection between plastic additive contamination and plastic pollution burdens in the bird stomachs,highlighting the importance of treating plastic particles and plastic-associated organic additives as co-contaminants rather than separate pollution issues.

Verticillium longisporum(Vl43)is a soilborne hemibiotrophic fungal pathogen causing stem striping on oilseed rape(OsR)and severe yield *** for resistant varieties is the most promising approach to control this ***,we report the identification of Hva22c as a novel susceptibility factor and its potential for improving OsR ***22c is a member of the Hva22 gene family,originally described for barley(Hordeum vulgare).several Hva22 members have been located at the endoplasmic ***22c is up-regulated in response to Vl43 in both Arabidopsis and *** demonstrate that knock-out of Hva22c in OsR by CRIsPR/Cas9 and its homolog in Arabidopsis by T-DNA insertion reduced plants’susceptibility to Vl43 infection and impaired the development of disease *** understand the underlying mechanism,we analysed transcriptomic data from infected and non-infected roots of hva22c knock-out and wild type *** identified a homozygous mutant with frame-shifts in all four BnHva22c loci displaying a vastly altered transcriptional landscape at 6 ***,a large set of genes was suppressed under mock conditions including genes related to the endomembrane *** the up-regulated genes we found several defense-related and phytohormone-responsive genes when comparing mutant to the wild *** results demonstrate that Hva22c is functionally required for a fully compatible plant-fungus *** loss of function reduces plant susceptibility,most likely due to endoplasmatic reticulum and Golgi dysfunction accompanied by additionally activated defense *** findings can help improve OsR resistance to *** infection.

Pronephrium stiriacum（Unger） Knobloch et Kvatek 1976（Filicales, Thelypteridaceae Holttum 1971） is reported from the Oligocene Petrosani Basin and from the Miocene Bozovici Basin in Romania. Morphological variations of this species, such as size of the leaves, venation and marginal teeth, in the Oligocene-Miocene time interval in Romania are described, discussed and illustrated. The distribution of the Thelypteridacean species Pronephrium stiriacum is also discussed regarding its European expansion during the Cenozoic. Moreover, the palaeoecology of this species is discussed based on taphonomy and occurrences, as Pronephrium stiriacum was a secondary coal generator.

Why,who and how should perform liver biopsy in chronic liver diseases

Chronic viral hepatitis is a common disease in the general *** chronic hepatitis,the prognosis and clinical management are highly dependent on the extent of liver *** fibrosis evaluation can be performed by FibroTest(using serological markers),by Elastography or Fibroscan(a noninvasive percutaneous technique using the elastic properties of the hepatic tissue) and by liver biopsy(LB),considered to be the "gold standard".Currently,there are three techniques for performing LB:percutaneous,transjugular and *** percutaneous LB can be performed blind,ultrasound(Us) guided or Us *** are two main categories of specialists who perform LB:gastroenterologists(hepatologists) and radiologists,and the specialty of the individual who performs the LB determines if the LB is performed under ultrasound guidance or *** are two types of biopsy needles used for LB:cutting needles(Tru-Cut,Vim-silverman) and suction needles(Menghini,Klatzkin,Jamshidi).The rate of major complications after percutaneous LB ranges from 0.09% to 2.3%,but the echo-guided percutaneous liver biopsy is a safe method for the diagnosis of chronic diffuse hepatitis(cost-effective as compared to blind biopsy) and the rate of complications seems to be related to the experience of the physician and the type of the needle used(Menghini type needle seems to be safer).Maybe,in a few years we will use non-invasive markers of fibrosis,but at this time,most authorities in the field consider that the LB is useful and necessary for the evaluation of chronic hepatopathies,despite the fact that it is not a perfect test.

Biomimetic Decarboxylation of Carboxylic Acids with PhI(OAc)_2 Catalyzed by Manganese Porphyrin [Mn(TPP)OAc]

Manganese（Ⅲ） meso-tetraphenylporphyrin acetate [Mn（TPP）OAc] served as an effective catalyst for the oxidative decarboxylation of carboxylic acids with （diacetoxyiodo）benzene [PhI（OAc）2] in CH2CI2-H2O（95：5, volume ratio）. The aryl substituted acetic acids are more reactive than the less electron rich linear carboxylic acids in the presence of catalyst Mn（TPP）OAc. In the former case, the formation of carbonyl products was complete within just a few minutes with 〉97% selectivities, and no further oxidation of the produced aldehydes was achieved under these catalytic conditions. This method provides a benign procedure owing to the utilization of low toxic（diacetoxyiodo） benzene, biologically relevant manganese porphyrins, and carboxylic acids.

In Wireless Body Area Networks(WBANs)with respect to health care,sensors are positioned inside the body of an individual to transfer sensed data to a central station *** great challenges posed to healthcare WBANs are the black hole and sink hole *** from deployed sensor nodes are attracted by sink hole or black hole nodes while grabbing the shortest *** this issue is quite a challenging task as a small variation in medicine intake may result in a severe *** work proposes a hybrid detection framework for attacks by applying a Proportional Coinciding score(PCs)and an MK-Means algorithm,which is a well-known machine learning technique used to raise attack detection accuracy and decrease computational difficulties while giving treatments for heartache and respiratory ***,the gathered training data feature count is reduced through data pre-processing in the ***,the pre-processed features are sent to the MK-Means algorithm for training the data and promoting ***,certain attack detection measures given by the intrusion detection system,such as the number of data packages trans-received,are identified by the MK-Means *** study demonstrates that the MK-Means framework yields a high detection accuracy with a low packet loss rate,low communication overhead,and reduced end-to-end delay in the network and improves the accuracy of biomedical data.
