Introduction: Sleep disorders are an important public health problem. In the case of young people, and especially students, due to both academic demands and social life, many situations can lead to sleep disturbances. Aim: To evaluate the quality of sleep in medical students and its relationships with technology addiction. Background: Current research indicates that the technology usage by the university students determined an impaired sleep quality and a shortened sleep duration. Method: One hundred eleven second-year students attending medical education were included in the study. Its dependent variable was low sleep quality and independent variables were behavioral factors, smartphone addiction, computer usage, watching TV and other questioned features. A sleep questionnaire to assess the sleep quality in medical students was provided to medical students. This study was conducted in the University of Medicine and pharmacy of Iasi, Romania. Results: The majority of medical students had shorter, irregular sleep duration and consumed energizing and stimulating drinks. Conclusions: In COVID-19 pandemic, the students’ tech addiction associated with the behavioral factors was found as risk factors for poor sleep quality.

Spinal cord injury is a very common pathological event that has devastating functional consequences in patients. In recent years, several research groups are trying to find an effective therapy that could be applied in clinical practice. In this study, we analyzed the combination of different strategies as a potential therapy for spinal cord injury. Immunization with neural derived peptides(INDp), inhibition of glial scar formation(dipyridyl: DpY), as well as the use of biocompatible matrix(fibrin glue: FG) impregnated with bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs) were combined and then its beneficial effects were evaluated in the induction of neuroprotection and neuroregeneration after acute SCI. Sprague-Dawley female rats were subjected to a moderate spinal cord injury and then randomly allocated into five groups: 1) phosphate buffered saline; 2) DpY; 3) INDp + DpY; 4) DpY+ FG; 5) INDp + DpY + FG + MSCs. In all rats, intervention was performed 72 hours after spinal cord injury. Locomotor and sensibility recovery was assessed in all rats. At 60 days after treatment, histological examinations of the spinal cord(hematoxylin-eosin and Bielschowsky staining) were performed. Our results showed that the combination therapy(DpY+ INDp + FG+ MSCs) was the best strategy to promote motor and sensibility recovery. In addition, significant increases in tissue preservation and axonal density were observed in the combination therapy group. Findings from this study suggest that the combination theapy(DpY+ INDp + FG + MSCs) exhibits potential effects on the protection and regeneration of neural tissue after acute spinal cord injury. All procedures were approved by the Animal Bioethics and Welfare Committee(approval No. 178544; CSNBTBIBAJ 090812960)on August 15, 2016.

能量桩技术作为一种利用浅层地热能的新技术,可以有效降低建筑物能源消耗,减少二氧化碳排放。为研究能量桩系统在运行前后的较长时期内的进/出口换热液体温度、桩身温度以及轴向变形等特征,对位于法国塞纳-马恩省的Sept Sorts镇某新建污水预处理厂房的能量桩系统开展了现场全尺监测试验。监测结果显示,换热管网进口(T_(inlet))和出口(T_(outlet))液体之间的平均温度差约为5℃,表明该能量桩系统具有良好的换热能力。在能量桩运行前,随深度增加,桩身温度先减小然后趋于稳定,最终保持在13℃左右(桩体深度>5m)。在能量桩运行后,在装有换热管的7m深度范围内桩身温度基本保持恒定。此外,能量桩运行前后的桩身温度变化幅度相差不大,均小于10℃。由能量桩运行引起的桩身轴向变形与由季节性土体温度变化引起的轴向变形具有相同的数量级,但前者沿桩体上的区域分布更加均匀。在监测期间,桩身轴向应变变化范围为-50μm/m~+30μm/m,数值虽小但在设计中不应忽略。

Minimally Invasive pericranial Flap for Reconstruction after Endonasal Endoscopic Surgery of 30 Consecutive patients

Objectives/Hypothesis: The introduction of intranasal pedicled flaps has reduced the incidence of postoperative cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leaks to less than 5%. Nevertheless, in malignant tumors those flaps are not always available because of nasal septum invasion. Minimally invasive pericranial flaps (pCF) are associated with minimal adverse effects and good cosmetic appearance. In spite of that, there are only a few reports of this reconstructive technic limited to short surgical series and radio-anatomical analysis. Clinical results of a surgical cohort are presented. Study Design: Cohort prospective study. Methods: Clinical data, including age, gender, stage, histopathological findings, rate of complications and appearance of pCF at fifth day and two months postoperative were recorded. postoperative morbidities were recorded as wound abnormalities, nasosinusal, orbital and central nervous system complications. Chi-squared test was used to correlate qualitative variables and Student-t-test to correlated qualitative and quantitative variables. Items were considered statistically significant with a p value of less than 0.05 (confidence Interval of 95%). Results: Thirty patients (18 males and 12 females) were registered. Mean age was 51.5 years ± 23.0 and range between 20 and 71 years. Most common histologic subtypes were adenocarcinoma, epidermoid carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma. Complete resection of the tumor was achieved in all patients including surgical margins. Length of the pCF varies between 9.9 cm and 13.9 cm with a mean of 11.8 cm. There was an association between length of the flaps and the covering structure with the nose apex relation. None patient experienced postoperative cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leak, frontal sinusitis or other complications. Conclusions: Minimally invasive pCF constitute a good and inexpensive reconstructive option in patients with malignant anterior cranial base tumors in whose nasoseptal flap was not a feasible option.

A study of invasive strains of Streptococcus agalactiae (GBS) from Cordoba and Misiones, Argentina;was conducted to determine serotypes, the susceptibility to macrolides and molecular profiles of virulence and resistance. We studied 17 strains, recovered from cerebrospinal fluid, blood and cellulite and, a strain of trophoblastic remnants from Misiones. The serotypes were determined by agglutination with sera and phenotypes of resistance to macrolide-lincosamide-streptogramin B (MLSB), were determined with the double-disk test (D-test). The confirmation was performed by E-test by ERI and CLI respectively that determined the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC). Results were interpreted as recommended by the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) 2013. Resistance genes: ermB, ermTR and mefA and the virulence genes: bac, bca, rib, lmb, hylB, scpB, fbsA, fbsB and cylB were investigated by conventional pCR. Serotype III (50%) and Ia (50%) were detected in Cordoba. One strain showed cMLSB phenotype, confirmed by MIC. The same strains showed a resistance gene ermB. All studied virulence genes were detected in 100% of these strains. In Misiones, serotypes were III (72.7%), Ia (18.2%) and Ib (9.1%). All strains were susceptible to CLI and ERI by D-test, confirmed by MIC. None of the strains showed resistance genes. Virulence genes bca, rib, hylB, lmb, fbsA, fbsB and cylB were detected in 100% of the strains, bac in 81.8% and scpB in 90.9%. Our results are in accordance with international data, associating higher frequency of serotype III of invasive neonatal disease followed by Ia. The presence of serotype Ib could indicate a regional difference for Misiones. We highlight the macrolides susceptibility in strains of Misiones and consistency in the results for D-test, MIC and pCR for the single strain resistant phenotype cMLSB from Cordoba. The virulence genes studied were presented with high frequency as expected for invasive strains.

Biodiversity in a Tomato Germplasm for Free Amino Acid and pigment Content of Ripening Fruits

Free amino acid and pigment composition in fruits at two ripening stages from a selected tomato germplasm was stu-died. The aims were contributing to knowledge on variability of ripening metabolism and identifying more consis-tently the genetic background of the plant material under analysis. Significant differences (p pening stages and among genotypes within ripening stage for all amino acids and pigments except by asparagine, alanine and chlorophyll b contents. The highest relative amino acid content corresponded to glutamate, glutamine, and GABA though some genotypes had relatively high asparagine content. Glutamate, glutamine and GABA performed oppositely: the former increased along ripening while the latter two decreased in their relative content. A principal Components (pC) analysis was applied, determining that metabolites having the greatest contribution to general variability were threonine, serine, glutamate, glutamine, glycine, isoleucine, leucine, tyrosine, phenylalanine, lycopene and beta- carotene, which showed the highest association with pC1. Alanine and chlorophylls a and b were highly associated to pC2. These two first pC explained the 62% of the total variation, and genotypes were distributed according to the ripening stage in their coordinates. Accordingly, a Hierarchical Clustering resulted in a dendrogram having a relatively high cophenetic correlation (0.70), in which two well defined groups were obtained according to ripening stage. These results verified the existence of variability in the metabolism of ripening fruit for amino acids and pigments, and allowed to identify unequivocally a set of selected tomato germplasm according to the fruit metabolic profiles in these two ripening stages.

peanuts can be affected by the presence of pathogenic microorganisms. The fungus Thecaphora frezii (T. frezii), which belongs to the taxonomic class Ustilaginomycetes, is the causal agent of the disease known as “peanut smut”. The life cycle of this fungus includes three stages, namely teliospores, basidiospores and hyphae. In the hyphae stage, infection occurs in the peanut plant, which requires the involvement of some enzymes secreted by the fungus. These include the plant Cell Wall-Degrading Enzymes (pCWDEs), which degrade various polysaccharides. This study aimed to identify the presence of transcript for enzymes belonging to the pCWDEs from three stages of T. frezii. For this, total RNA was extracted from the three ontogenetic stages of T. frezii. These samples were analyzed using an RNA-Seq approach and some transcripts were quantified using Real Time pCR. The analysis of the data provided by the RNA-Seq of the three T. frezii stages, it was possible to identify some transcripts that could encode enzymes compatible with polysaccharides degradation that are part of the plant cell wall. In T. frezii transcriptome, 40 deduced proteins would be enzymes with functions of pCWDEs were identified. They were divided into 27 glycoside hydrolases;two polysaccharide lyases;three carbohydrate esterases and eight enzymes with auxiliary activities. In addition, the fungal SNF1 gene was identified whose activity could be affected by high glucose level, and indirectly influence the levels of some pCWDEs. The analysis of the pCWDEs could help to understand part of the fungal infection process and possibly find substances that can control its development.
