Abrupt Summer Warming and Changes in temperature Extremes over Northeast Asia Since the Mid-1990s: Drivers and Physical Processes

this study investigated the drivers and physical processes for the abrupt decadal summer surface warming and increases in hot temperature extremes that occurred over Northeast Asia in the mid-1990s. Observations indicate an abrupt increase in summer mean surface air temperature （SAt） over Northeast Asia since the mid-1990s. Accompanying this abrupt surface wanning, significant changes in some temperature extremes, characterized by increases in summer mean daily maximum temperature （tmax）, daily minimum temperature （train）, annual hottest day temperature （tXx）, and annual warmest night temperature （tNx） were observed. there were also increases in the frequency of summer days （SU） and tropical nights （tR）. Atmospheric general circulation model experiments forced by changes in sea surface temperature （SSt）/sea ice extent （SIE）, anthropogenic greenhouse gas （GHG） concentrations, and anthropogenic aerosol （AA） forcing, relative to the period 1964- 93, reproduced the general patterns of observed summer mean SAt changes and associated changes in temperature extremes, although the abrupt decrease in precipitation since the mid-1990s was not simulated. Additional model experiments with different forcings indicated that changes in SSt/SIE explained 76% of the area-averaged summer mean surface warming signal over Northeast Asia, while the direct impact of changes in GHG and AA explained the remaining 24% of the surface warming signal. Analysis of physical processes indicated that the direct impact of the changes in AA （through aerosol- radiation and aerosol-cloud interactions）, mainly related to the reduction of AA precursor emissions over Europe, played a dominant role in the increase in tXx and a similarly important role as SSt/SIE changes in the increase in the frequency of SU over Northeast Asia via AA-induced coupled atmosphere-land surface and cloud feedbacks, rather than through a direct impact of AA changes on cloud condensation nuclei. the modelling results also imply

Carbon and nitrogen stable isotope analyses of mammal bone fossils from the Zhongba site in the three Gorges Reservoir region of the Yangtze River,China

Based on AMS 14 C dating data,carbon and nitrogen isotope analyses were conducted on mammal bone collagen of deer,cattle and pigs from the Zhongba site in the three Gorges Reservoir region of the Yangtze *** analyses were conducted to reconstruct palaeodiets of mammals,palaeoecology,palaeoenviroment and previous human activities in the study *** show that the collagen loss of bone did not change the in vivo isotopic composition of carbon and nitrogen stable isotopes,and most of the bone fossils were well *** bone collagen of samples from deer had a mean δ 13 C of-23.1‰ and a mean δ 15 N of 4.7‰,suggesting that deer subsisted in a closed habitat and fed on branches and *** bone collagen of cattle had a mean δ 13 C of-19.6‰ and a mean δ 15 N of 5.2‰,which indicates that cattle subsisted in an open habitat and fed on grasses and *** δ 13 C values show that both deer and cattle fed on C 3 plants and lived in the same ecosystem,but the t-test results show that deer δ 13 C and δ 15 N values were both more negative than those of cattle,indicating that they inhabited different *** δ 13 C and δ 15 N values of cattle partially overlapped those of deer,suggesting some competition in diets between *** t-tests show that the δ 13 C and δ 15 N values of pigs were more positive than those of cattle and deer,which signifies that pigs occupied a higher trophic level compared to cattle and *** wide range of pig δ 13 C values demonstrates that pig trading had been taking place from early Neolithic Age to late Bronze *** were no significant differences in deer δ 13 C and δ 15 N values among different archaeological periods,making it clear that climatic,ecological and environmental conditions were kept relatively stable from 2200 to 4200 a *** stability may have been responsible for the extensive and complete cultural layers at the Zhongba *** minimum number of samples required to estimate the mean δ 13 C values of d

Melanonychia in Patients Infected with Human Immunodeficiency Virus Original Communication

this study examined whether melanonychia was more prevalent in 1) HIV positive individuals compared to HIV negative persons, 2) HIV positives exposed to zidovudine and/or stavudine and 3) those with darker skin pigmentation. Procedures. 267 HIV positive and 273 HIV negative patients were examined for presence or absence of melanonychia and level of skin pigmentation using the Fitzgerald scale. Pharmacy records were examined for determining exposure to zidovudine or stavudine. Chi square, odds ratios and logistic regression were used to examine the study questions Main Findings. Melanonychia appeared in 49.1% of 267 HIV positive and 21.8% of 273 HIV negative subjects. Adjusting for skin pigmentation, HIV positives were 4.1 times more likely to have melanonychia than HIV negatives. Melanonychia was present in 54% of those receiving zidovudine and in 42% of those receiving stavudine (OR = 2.73, p = 0.05). In a multivariate model in HIV positives which included skin type, prescription of zidovudine and/or Stavudine, only dark skin (OR = 14.62, p t. Principal Conclusions. HIV infected persons are prone to melanonychia. this is more frequent in darker skinned persons and is enhanced in those exposed to zidovudine.

Controlling the gelation temperature of biomimetic polyisocyanides

thermosensitive polymers show an entropy-driven transition from a well-solvated to a poorly solvated polymer chain, resulting in a more compact globular conformation. the transition at the lower critical solution temperature（LCSt） is often sharp, which allows for a wide range of smart material *** the LCSt, oligo（ethylene glycol）-substituted polyisocyanides（PICs） form soft hydrogels, composed of polymer bundles similar to biological gels, such as actin, fibrin and intermediate filaments. Here, we show that the LCSt of PICs strongly depends linearly on the length of the ethylene glycol（EG） tails; every EG group increases the LCStand thus the gelation temperature by nearly 30 ℃. Using a copolymerisation approach, we demonstrate that we can precisely tailor the gelation temperature between 10 ℃ and 60 ℃and, consequently, tune the mechanical properties of the PIC gels.

星期六，上午九点零五分。这一程本该轻松简单又豪气，基本上只是去圣亚加塔（Sant’Agata）兰博总舵接走Aventador Roadster，踉踉跄跄跑往马拉内罗（Maranello）兜截一辆玛莎拉蒂Granturismo MC Stradale和一个Jason Barlow，沿途豪饮咖啡，轻描淡写翻越阿尔卑斯直奔CircuitdeCharade会合英国队和德国帮。不过1G办事，鲜有顺风顺水。别的不说，在圣亚加塔开往马拉内罗的路上已经出师不利困身于繁忙时段的早高峰，rowan和我还要在室外气温几达摄氏40度的情况下，跟为数众多的行囊一起挤坐于Aventador。这辆Aventador，车顶如常架起来，空调却有心无力，加508kW的V12传来胜似火山的热浪，车厢气温保守估计最少也有个摄氏100度，叫我不禁幻想光凭本身排出的^-t-zk．是否足以让自己受尽水刑滋味。
