Fatal cases in pediatric patients after post-exposure prophylaxis for rabies:A report of two cases

Rationale:Rabies is a zoonotic disease with a high mortality,primarily transmitted through the bite of infected mammals,particularly dogs and *** being a well-known disease since ancient times,it continues to cause a significant number of human deaths worldwide,with approximately 65000 fatalities reported *** concerns:We present two fatal cases of rabies in a 12-year-old immigrant boy and a 7-year-old *** first case was subject to a 24-hour delay in receiving appropriate medical attention and rabies preventive measures due to the lack of awareness among emergency hospital staff,leading to the administration of wound dressing *** second case received timely rabies immunoglobulin administration;however,there was a 4-day delay in administering the fourth dose of the rabies vaccine,despite presenting evident symptoms of ***:Postmortem examination of brain samples from both patients confirmed the presence of rabies ***:Post-exposure prophylaxis for ***:Both patients were admitted to the hospital after the manifestation of rabies-related symptoms,with the 12-year-old child seeking medical care 47 days after the animal bite and the 7-year-old child seeking medical care 58 days after the ***,the first patient died after 27 days and the second patient died after 40 days of ***:There is an urgent need for heightened awareness and education among both healthcare professionals and the public regarding the urgency of seeking immediate medical attention after potential rabies *** recognition and initiation of post-exposure prophylaxis are pivotal in preventing the progression of the *** surveillance and reporting systems,coupled with continuous training for healthcare professionals,can contribute to early detection and management of rabies cases.

Laparoscopic liver resection (LLR) for the treatment of benign and malignant liver lesions is often performed at specialized centers. Technological advances, such as laparoscopic ultrasonography and electrosurgical tools, have afforded surgeons simultaneous improvements in surgical technique. The utilization of minimally invasive techniques for liver resection has been reported to reduce operative time, decrease blood loss, and shorten length of hospital stay with equivalent postoperative mortality and morbidity rates compared to open liver resection (OLR). Non-anatomic liver resection and left lateral sectionectomy are now routinely performed laparoscopically at many institutions. Furthermore, major hepatic resections are performed by pure laparoscopy, hand-assisted technique, and the hybrid method. In addition, robotic surgery and single port surgery are revealing early promising results. The consensus recommendation for the treatment of benign liver disease and malignant lesions remains unchanged when considering a laparoscopic approach, except when comorbidities and anatomic limitations of the liver lesion preclude this technique. Disease free and survival rates after LLR for hepatocellular carcinoma and metastatic colon cancer correspond to OLR. Patient selection is a significant factor for these favorable outcomes. The limitations include LLR of superior and posterior liver lesions; however, adjustments in technique may now consider a laparoscopic approach as a viable option. As growing data continue to reveal the feasibility and efficacy of laparoscopic liver surgery, this skill is increasingly being adopted by hepatobiliary surgeons. Although the full scope of laparoscopic liver surgery remains infrequently used by many general surgeons, this technique will become a standard in the treatment of liver diseases as studies continue to show favorable outcomes.

Numerical Simulation of Liquefaction-Induced Settlement of Existing Structures

This study presents a numerical approach for assessment of the structure settlement problems in liquefied *** fluid dynamics theory was applied to model the liquefied soils and the rigid body dynamics theory was applied to compute the structure’s translational and angular motions in six degrees of *** dynamic mesh method was applied to modify the deformed mesh due to structure *** table tests were carried out to reproduce the structure’s subsidence behavior and provide validation for the numerical *** show that the settlement of the structure occurred most rapidly at the very beginning of liquefaction,and then it decreased *** structure settlements occurred within 10 s after *** different structure weights,structure with larger weight yielded larger amount of settlement and higher peak settlement *** results obtained in this study are beneficial for assessment of structure settlement problems in liquefaction prone areas.

Kinetics study of CO_(2) absorption in potassium carbonate solution promoted by diethylenetriamine

实验研究了应变路径变化对AA1050铝合金力学性能、成形性能和成形极限的影响。讨论了以单向、反向和交叉轧制的三种不同方式的应变路径。对比了三种轧制方式在20%和40%轧制比下的晶粒尺寸、硬度、应力-应变曲线和成形极限。结果表明,交叉轧制试样的晶粒尺寸小于其他方式轧制试样的晶粒尺寸;单向和交叉轧制试样的强度和伸长率均高于反向轧制方式的,单向和交叉轧制试样的硬度等于或大于反向轧制试样的;此外,交叉轧制使试样的各向异性减小,R趋近于1。试样的成形极限在交叉轧制方式下明显提高,在40%轧制比下,交叉轧制的FLC_(0)为0.113,单向轧制的FLC_(0)为0.09,反向轧制的FLC_(0)为0.081。单向和反向轧制的成形极限与加载路径的相关。

In this paper,the effect of water and air fluids on the behavior of a planing catamaran in calm water was studied separately in calm water by using experimental and numerical *** were conducted in a towing tank over the Froude number range of 0.49–2.9 with two degrees of *** model vessel displacement of 5.3 kg was implemented in experimental *** behavior was evaluated at the displacements of 5.3,4.6,and 4 kg by using the numerical *** numerical simulation results for the hull’s resistance force were validated with similar experimental *** fluid volume model was applied to simulate two-phase *** SST k-ωturbulence model was used to investigate the effect of turbulence on the *** results showed that in the planing mode,the contribution of air to pressure resistance increased by 55%,40%,and 60%at the mentioned displacements,whereas the contribution of air to friction resistance was less than 15%on *** contribution of the air to the total lift force at the abovementioned displacements exceeded 70%,60%,and 50%in the planing mode but was less than 10%in the displacement *** the displacements of 5.3 and 4 kg,the area under the effect of maximum pressure moved around the center of gravity and caused porpoising longitudinal instability at the Froude numbers of 2.9 and 2.4,***,at the displacement of 4.6 kg,this effect did not occur,and the vessel maintained its stability.

Theoretical analysis of the conical premixed flame response to upstream velocity disturbances considering flame speed development effects

The effect of upstream velocity pertuibations on the response of a premixed flame was investigated in terms of the flame transfer function dependency on excitation *** this study,the assumption of constant flame speed was extended and the effect of flame speed development was considered;i.e.,the flame speed would grow with the time after ignition or with the distance from a *** the present study,the kinematics of a conical flame was investigated by linearization of the front tracking equation of flame to uniform and convected fluctuations of the flow velocity and the response was compared with that of a V-shaped flame and the experimental data in the previous *** results show that the effect of flame speed development could influence a decreasing gain and increase the phase of the flame response to the uniform velocity oscillations in low and moderate *** the variations in the gain of flame response upon normalized frequency,show that a conical flame has lower values than the *** other woods,these flames might be less susceptible to combustion instabilities than the ***,the variations in phase of the V-flames responses,which show a quasi-linear behavior with normalized frequency,have higher values than the saturated behavior in phase of the conical flame ***,considering that the flame speed development induces an increase in the gain and phase of the conical flame response to the convected velocity oscillations in certain frequencies;because the developed flame front has longer length in comparison to the flame front in constant flame speed ***,the flame length may be longer than convective wavelength and the heat release would be generated in different points of the flame;consequently the flow oscillations might exert a stronger impact on the unsteady heat release fluctuations.

The Stochastic Finite-Fault Modeling Based on a Dynamic Corner Frequency Simulating of Strong Ground Motion for Earthquake Scenario of North Tabriz Fault

The occurrence of the historical and machine Earthquakes, near to the North Tabriz Fault in NW Iran is an evidence for the seismic activity of this fault, which records a historical earthquake with a magnitude more than 7. Using the existing experimental relations, seismicity, and the fault geometry, a Mw 7.7 earthquake scenario was defined. The stochastic finite-fault modeling based on a dynamic corner frequency shows good agreement with common attenuation patterns. The shake map illustrates that Baghmisheh, Roshtieh, Ellahieh, Valiamr, and Eram region on Tabriz are at high hazard areas, and the maximum acceleration is located at the north direction with the same azimuth similar to fault strike.

Gastrointestinal bleeding(GIB) is a common presenta-tion with significant associated morbidity and mortality, the prevalence of which continues to rise with the ever-increasing aging population. Initial evaluation includes an esophagoduodeonscopy and/or colonoscopy, which may fail to reveal a source. Such cases prove to be a dilemma and require collaboration between gastroen-terology and radiology in deciding the most appropriate approach. Recently, there have been a number of ra-diologic advances in the approach to GIB. The purpose of this review is to provide an evidence-based update on the most current radiologic modalities available and an algorithmic approach to GIB.
