Background Tuberculosis(TB)care could be considered as a continuum from symptom recognition,decision to seek care,diagnosis,treatment initiation and treatment completion,with care along the continuum influenced by several *** dimensions could influence TB care,and indeed,more men than women are diagnosed with TB each *** study was done to identify social stratifiers that intersect with gender to influence TB *** A cross-sectional qualitative study was done at four health facilities in 3 districts in central Uganda between October 2020 and December *** was collected from patients seeking a diagnosis or on TB treat-ment through focus group discussions and key informant *** themes around gender guided by a gender and intersectionality lens were developed and thereafter thematic content analysis was *** Women have increased vulnerability to TB due to bio mass exposure through roles like *** have increased access to health care services as they interface with the health care system frequently given their role as child bearers and child care *** have a duty to provide for their families and this most often is prioritised over healthcare seeking,and together with belief that they are powerful beings leads to poor healthcare seeking hab-its and delays in healthcare *** on when and where to seek care were not straightforward for women,who most often rely on their husbands/partners to make *** Men and women experience challenges to TB care,and that these challenges are deeply rooted in roles assigned to them and further compounded by *** challenges need to be addressed through intersec-tional gender responsive interventions if TB control is to be improved.

Objective The placebo response in depression studies is the change in symptoms amongst those who receive an inactive *** well-designed randomized controlled trials(RCTs)of depression have a high proportion of placebo responders,with little understanding as to *** present study assesses characteristics associated with the placebo response in a nutraceutical trial with a large proportion of placebo *** This is a secondary analysis of a nutraceutical depression RCT which identified no overall treatment benefit relative to placebo(n=69 in placebo group).We investigated participant characteristics such as socio-demographics,clinical features,and recruitment methods,and their association with the placebo *** genetic polymorphisms were also *** response was measured based on change in Montgomery-Asberg Depression Rating Scale *** association of these hypothesis-driven variables of interest and the placebo response was examined using linear mixed effects *** Greater levels of education,particularly pursuing post-high school education,better self-reported general health,marriage/de facto,greater improvement in the first trial week,and more failed antidepressant therapies in the current depressive episode were associated with greater placebo *** increased placebo response was not found in those recruited via social media nor in those with concomitant antidepressant *** nucleotide polymorphisms from the tryptophan hydroxylase 1(TPH1)gene(A779C and A218C)were weakly associated with greater placebo response,although the evidence was attenuated after accounting for multiple *** This is,to our knowledge,the first study within nutraceutical research for depression to assess the association between participant characteristics and variation in the placebo *** variables appeared to predict the placebo *** findings may encourage future trial design

Background: In recent times, there has been an increase in the number of Lassa fever cases resulting from the several episodes of Lassa fever epidemics ravaging Nigeria and other West African countries. The presence of Lassa virus in rodents other than the major reservoir (Mastomys natalensis) has been a public health concern as to the actual burden of the disease. It is therefore of a public health necessity to explore the LASV RNA habouring potential of several species of rodents in endemic as well as non-endemic areas for proper prevention of emergence of outbreaks in non-endemic areas. Objectives: The aim of this study was to detect the presence of LASV RNA in different species of rodents in Ikorodu, Lagos state and Abeokuta, Ogun state. Methods: A total of ninety one (91) rodents were captured from Ikorodu, Lagos State (61 rodents) and Abeokuta, Ogun State (30 rodents), euthanized, bled, and plasma obtained for the detection of LASV RNA by Reverse Transcriptase Polymerase Chain Reaction. Results: A total of 91 rodents consisting of 77 Rattus rattus and 14 Crocidura spp. The S segment of LASV RNA was not in any of the 91 rodents’ plasma samples. Conclusion: The rodents captured within the rural communities of Ikorodu, Lagos State and Abeokuta, Ogun State were found not to habour the LASV RNA. This study is limited by the relatively small sample size. Similar studies should be encouraged both in endemic and non-endemic areas in order to understand the actual burden of Lassa fever as well as put into check future epidemics.

BACKGROUND Recurrence of hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)following liver transplantation(LT)has a devastating influence on recipients’survival;however,the risk of recur-rence is not routinely *** stratification is vital with a long LT waiting time,as that could influence the recurrence despite strict listing *** This study aims to identify predictors of recurrence and develop a novel risk pre-diction score to forecast HCC recurrence following *** A retrospective review of LT for HCC recipients at University Hospitals Bir-mingham between July 2011 and February *** and multivariate analyses were performed to identify recurrence predictors,based on which the novel SIMAP500(satellite nodules,increase in size,microvascular invasion,AFP>500,poor differentiation)risk score was *** 234 LTs for HCC were performed with a median follow-up of 5.3 *** developed in 25 patients(10.7%).On univariate analyses,RETREAT score>3,α-fetoprotein(AFP)at listing 100-500 and>500,bridging,increased tumour size between imaging at the listing time and explant histology,increase in the size of viable tumour between listing and explant,presence of satellite nodules,micro-and macrovascular invasion on explant and poor differentiation of tumours were significantly associated with recurrence,based on which,the SIMAP500 risk score is *** SIMAP500 demonstrated an excellent predictive ability(c-index=0.803)and outper-formed the RETREAT score(c-index=0.73).SIMAP500 is indicative of the time to disease *** SIMAP500 risk score identifies the LT recipients at risk of HCC *** stratification allows patient-centric post-transplant surveillance *** validation of the score is recommended.

Valorization of the agro-industrial by-products of bacupari(Garcinia brasiliensis(Mart.))through production of flour with bioactive properties

Brazil has a wide variety of fruits that remain insufficiently *** encourage the use of one such fruit,the bacupari((Garcinia brasiliensis(Mart.)),the current study produced flours from its by-products(the peel and seed)at two maturation stages and subsequently evaluated their proximate composition,physical,antioxidant,bioactive,microstructural and thermal *** results revealed that the flours have a high in fiber content(>15%)and are a potential source of protein(>5%).Seed flour has an energy value similar to that of wheat flour and other conventional *** flour micrographs indicate the presence of starch,a fact confirmed by viscosity *** flours contain phenolic compounds and exhibit antioxidant activity,especially the unripe peel *** the compounds identified by chromatography,those present in the greatest concentrations were quinine(≅111μg/g),p-coumaric acid(≅25μg/g),m-coumaric acid(≅15μg/g),and formononetin(≅21μg/g),all of which are known to have several human health *** flour crystallinity diminished as the fruit *** flour exhibited similar thermal transitions but less thermal stability than seed *** summary,this study revealed that flours produced from the peel and seeds of bacupari,which are generated in large quantities as agro-industrial by-products,can be used as alternative ingredients in various sectors of the food industry.

Relationship between Serum Leptin and Adiponectin Levels in Obese Nigerians with Type 2 Diabetes Subjects

Background: Obesity is rising globally, independent of ethnicity, race and age, and is associated with increased risk of cardiovascular mortality and morbidity especially in persons living with diabetes. The effect of adipokines such as leptin, resistin and adiponectin which are secreted by adipose tissue factors has been linked to the increased risk of the cardiovascular mortality and morbidity. Aim: This study aims to assess the levels of serum leptin and serum adiponectin in obese type 2 diabetes subjects, and their relationship with cardio-metabolic component (using lipid profile). Method: This is a cross-sectional comparative hospital-based study in which one hundred and fifty participants grouped into 60 obese, 60 non-obese none diabetic and 30 non-obese non-diabetic adults with similar age from the Endocrinology outpatient’s clinic, General outpatient department (GOPD) and staff clinic of Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex (OAUTHC). Anthropometric parameters and other relevant clinical details of all subjects were obtained. Fasting venous blood samples were taken from all subjects for the determination of fasting plasma glucose (FPG), fasting lipid profile, glycosylated haemoglobin levels (HbA1C), fasting serum insulin, leptin, and adiponectin. Data was analysed using the Statistical Package of Social Sciences (SPSS) version 23.0. Results: Twenty-eight (46.7%)) subjects were males while 32 subjects (53.3%) were females (in obese groups). There was no statistical difference between these two groups for both sexes (p = 1.000). The age range for all subjects was 34 to 64 years with their mean age being 52 ± 7.3 years, and for type 2 subjects and the obese non-diabetic 50.7 ± 7.3 years respectively. The mean body mass index of the non-obese and non-diabetic was 23.7 ± 4 Kg/m2 while the anthropometric measurements of the obese two groups were similar. 购买意愿是市场营销中考虑的一个非常重要的指标。事实上,购买意愿作为一种衡量手段在设计营销活动或促销活动中是有效的。通过分析客户的购买意图,可以创建如何提高销售的综合路线图。消费者对特定购买活动的态度以及他们以固定价格购买产品或服务的意愿水平被称为他们的购买意向。本研究旨在评估影响汽车行业消费者购买意愿的因素。它旨在确定影响Innoson电机用户购买意愿的因素,因为过去几年的销售额有记录的增长。使用横断面研究设计,并使用问卷调查收集原始数据。共有145名参与者被有意抽样。该假设检验了价格政策、社会形象、售后服务、促销、审美和质量对消费者购买意愿的影响。从结果来看,我们有114名(78.6%)是男性,31名(21.4%)是女性。差为12.30。大多数受访者的就业率为54.5%,42.1%的收入超过N200,000。根据参与者多年的IVM汽车经验,我们发现大多数受访者都在1-5年以下(53.1%)。根据自变量,我们有审美记录的最高平均值为4.24,而质量记录最低,平均值为2.78,来自5点李克特量表分析。进行推论统计,相关系数的结果表明售后服务与审美对消费者购买意愿呈强正相关关系,而质量与消费者购买意愿呈弱正相关关系。从回归分析的结果,我们得到R2=0.68,表明68%的客户购买意愿(因变量)方差可以通过价格政策、社会形象、售后服务、促销、审美和质量(自变量)和性别、年龄、就业状况、收入、使用IVM汽车的年限(控制变量)。它还揭示了价格政策、售后服务、促销、审美和质量显著影响了客户的购买意愿,而社会形象不显著。基于控制变量,发现就业状况和收入在预测客户购买意愿方面具有统计学意义,而性别、年龄、使用IVM汽车的年限不显着。从这项研究中可以明显看出,这些因素对于IVM品牌的发展和改善销售至关重要。这凸显了价格政策、售后服务、促销、审美和质量等基本因素对公司发展的影响,应考虑留住客户并提升制造公司的地位。
