La.e Victoria.the second la.gest fresh wa.er body in the world loca.ed in Ea.t a.rica.is a.sha.ed resource between Kenya. Ta.za.ia.a.d Uga.da.a.d enjoys a.wide ra.ge of strea.s a.d rivers from a. fa. a. Burundi a.d Rwa.da. The la.e ha. environmenta.ly undergone physica., chemica. a.d biologica. cha.ges in the la.t four deca.es, pa.ticula.ly rise in its trophic condition a.d decline in oxygen level, which a.fects the wa.er qua.ity a.d fish popula.ion dyna.ics. This study therefore set out to determine the qua.ity of wa.er in selected fishing bea.hes of La.e Victoria. Kenya.with a.view to report the possible pollution levels. pH wa. highest a. Nya.a.a.i a.d Kotieno (9.3 ± 0.1) a.d lowest a. Nya.hebe a.d Kichinjio (7.08 ± 0.1) wherea. tempera.ure wa. highest a. Nya.a.a.i (29.5°C ± 0.0°C) a.d lowest a. Kichinjio (23.4°C ± 0.2°C). DO wa. highest a. Kotieno (10.3 ± 0.2 mgL) a.d lowest a. Seka.(2.4 ± 0.1 mgL). Turbidity wa. highest a. Uyoga.(125.5 ± 0.90 NTU) a.d lowest a. Osieko (2.7 ± 0.1 NTU). a.monia.a. nitrogen wa. highest a. Dunga.(1278.3 ± 0.8 μ∙gl-1) a.d lowest a. Nya.a.a.i (12.4 ± 0.8), a.l a.fa.tor of huma. a.tivities, la.e substra.um a.d effluents from rivers a.d surfa.e runoff. a.l pa.a.eters a.sessed showed significa.t differences a.ross sa.pling sites a.d depth except pH which did not va.y significa.tly with dista.ce from la.eshore. Further, a.l pa.a.eters did not show a.clea. pa.tern with respect to dista.ce from the la.eshore possibly due to a.equa.e mixing in the gulf. There is a.need for further wa.er qua.ity monitoring by sea.ons to inform policy decisions towa.ds susta.na.le la.e exploita.ion.
