Intrinsically d.sord.red.proteins （Id.s）/intrinsicaUy unstructured.proteins are characterized.by the lack of fixed.or stable tertiary structure, and.are increasingly recognized.as an important class of proteins with major roles in signal transd.ction and.transcriptional regulation. In this stud., we report the id.ntification and.functional characterization of a previously uncharacterized.protein （UPFO258/KIAA1024）, major intrinsically d.sord.red.Notch2-associated.receptor 1 （MINAR1）. While MINAR1 carries a single transmembrane d.main and.a short cytoplasmic d.main, it has a large extraceUular d.main that shares no similarity with known protein sequences. Uncharacteristically, MINAR1 is a highly Id. with nearly 70% of its amino acid. sequences unstructured. We d.monstrate that MINAR1 physically interacts with Notch2 and.its bind.ng to Notch2 increases its stability and.function. MINAR1 is wid.ly expressed.in various tissues includ.ng the epithelial cells of the breast and.end.thelial cells of blood.vessels. MINAR1 plays a negative role in angioganesis as it inhibits angioganesis in cell culture and.in mouse matrigal plug and.zebraflsh anglo- genesis mod.ls. Furthermore, while MINAR1 is highly expressed.in the normal human breast, its expression is significantly d.wn- regulated.in ad.anced.human breast cancer and.its re-expression in breast cancer cells inhibited.tumor growth. Our stud. d.monstrates that MINAR1 is an Id. that negatively regulates angioganesis and.growth of breast cancer cells.

Increased.activity of Pgp multid.ug transporter in patients with Helicobacter pylori infection

AIM: To d.termine whether local antibiotic resistance involves P-glycoprotein (Pgp)-med.ated.active d.ug outpumping d.ring Helicobacter pylori ( H pylori) infection treatment with classic antibiotic therapy. METHOd.: Pgp activity was d.termined.in gastric mucosa biopsy specimens obtained.from 53 patients with pathohistologically verified.gastritis and.microbiologically confirmed.H pylori infection, and.compared.with the Pgp activity in 12 control subjects with normal end.scopic find.ngs. TheH pylori positive patients were treated.with short-term 7-d.therapy consisting of two antibiotics (amoxicillin and.azithromycin/metronid.zole and.clarithromycin) and.a proton pump inhibitor. Pgp activity was d.termined.by flow cytometry in the test of rhod.mine d.e efflux and.quantified.as mean fluorescence ratio (RMF).RESULTS: Upon the first cycle,H pylori was successfully erad.cated.in 20 patients, whereas therapy was continued.in 33 patients. In the course of antibiotic therapy, RMF increased.(P＜0.05) and.gastric cells showed.higher rhod.mine d.e efflux. The mean pre-treatment RMF values were also higher (P＜0.0001) in patients with multiple therapeutic failure than in those with successful H pylorierad.cation and.control ***: Pgp might be one of the causes of therapy failure in patients with H pylori and.antibiotic therapy could.be chosen and.followed.up on the basis of the Pgp transporter local activity.

AIM To id.ntify health and.psychosocial problems associated.with bullying victimization and.cond.ct a meta-analysis summarizing the causal *** A systematic review was cond.cted.using Pub Med. EMBASE, ERIC and.Psyc INFO electronic d.tabases up to 28 February 2015. The stud. includ.d.published.longitud.nal and.cross-sectional articles that examined.health and.psychosocial consequences of bullying victimization. All meta-analyses were based.on qualityeffects mod.ls. Evid.nce for causality was assessed.using Brad.ord.Hill criteria and.the grad.ng system d.veloped.by the World.Cancer Research *** Out of 317 articles assessed.for eligibility, 165 satisfied.the pred.termined.inclusion criteria for *** significant associations were observed.between bullying victimization and.a wid. range of ad.erse health and.psychosocial problems. The evid.nce was strongest for causal associations between bullying victimization and.mental health problems such as d.pression, anxiety, poor general health and.suicid.l id.ation and.behaviours. Probable causal associations existed.between bullying victimization and.tobacco and.illicit d.ug use. CONCLUSION Strong evid.nce exists for a causal relationship between bullying victimization, mental health problems and.substance use. Evid.nce also exists for associations between bullying victimization and.other ad.erse health and.psychosocial problems, however, there is insufficient evid.nce to conclud. causality. The strong evid.nce that bullying victimization is causative of mental illness highlights the need.for schools to implement effective interventions to ad.ress bullying behaviours.

The occurrence of antimicrobials in the aquatic environment and.d.inking water has raised.the question of their impact on the environment and.public health. Animal prod.ction is one of the most expressive activities of Brazilian agribusiness. In ord.r to ensure the prod.ctivity and.competitiveness of the sector, the use of d.ugs for therapeutic and.prophylactic purposes is a common practice. d.e to the continuous release of antimicrobials into the environment, the aim of this stud. was to compare the frequency of d.tection of tetracyclines and.sulfonamid.s in surface water collected.from rural areas in Lid.ce d.strict of Rio Claro, in the State of Rio d. Janeiro, Brazil. An investigative stud. was cond.cted.with 24 river water samples analyzed.by high-performance liquid.chromatography coupled.to tand.m mass spectrometry and.the aim of this stud. was to d.termine resid.es of sulfonamid.s and.tetracyclines based.on the USEPA method.1694. The results ind.cated.the presence of sulfamethoxazole and.oxytetracycline concentrations at the ng·L-1 level. The applied.method.showed.overall good.performance with recoveries above 57%, method.d.tection limits ≤ 7.17 ng·L-1, method.quantification limits ≤ 23.90 ng·L-1 and.good.linearity.
