Pyrolytic synthesis of graphene-encapsulated zero-valent iron nanoparticles supported on biochar for heavy metal removal

Biochar(BC)-supported graphene-encapsulated zero-valent iron nanoparticle composites(BC-g@Fe0)are promising engineering nanocomposites that can be used to scavenge heavy metal from ***,the produc-tion of BC-g@Fe0 through carbothermal reduction using biomass as a carbon source remains challenging because of biomass pyrolysis ***,we examined two carbothermal reduction routes for preparing BC-g@Fe0 using bamboo as the carbon *** first route impregnated Fe ions(Fe^(2+)/^(3+))into unpyrolyzed bamboo parti-cles initially,followed by carbonization at 600-1000℃.This process produced BC-g@Fe0 dominated by iron carbide(Fe_(3)C),which led to low heavy metal removal efficiency(i.e.,Cu^(2+)capacity ofg^(−1)).In the second route,bamboo particles were pyrolyzed(600℃)to biochar first,followed by impregnating this biochar with Fe ions,and then carbonized at 600-1000℃.This route produces zero-valent iron nanoparticles,which resulted in high heavy metal removal capacities(i.e.,0.30,1.58,and 1.91 mmol g^(−1)for Pb^(2+),Cu^(2+),and Ag+,respectively).The effects of car-bonization temperature(600-1000℃),iron source(i.e.,iron nitrates,iron sulfate,ferrous chloride,and ferric chloride),and iron loading(5-40%)on the morphology,structure,and heavy metal ion aqueous uptake performance of BC-g@Fe0 were also *** study revealed the formation mechanisms of BC-g@Fe0 through biomass carbother-mal reduction,which could guide the application-oriented design of multifunctional iron-BC composites for water remediation.

Background: Advances in nanotechnology have permitted molecular-based targeting of cells through safe and biocompatible magnetic nanoparticles(MNP). Their use to detect and remove damaged spermatozoa from semen doses could be of great interest. Here, MNP were synthesized and tested for their ability to target apoptotic(annexin v) and acrosome-reacted(lectin) boar spermatozoa, for high-throughout retrieval in a magnetic field(nanoselection). The potential impacts of nanoselection on sperm functions and performance of offspring sired by sperm subjected to nanoselection were determined. Fresh harvested and extended boar semen was mixed with various amounts(0, 87.5, and 175 μg) of MNP-conjugates(Annexin v-MNP or Lectin-MNP) and incubated(10 to15 min) for 37 °C in Exp. 1. In Exp. 2, extended semen was mixed with optimal concentrations of MNP-conjugates and incubated(0, 30, 90, or 120 min). In Exp. 3, the synergistic effects of both MNP-conjugates(87.5 μg– 30 min)on spermatozoa was evaluated, followed by sperm fertility assessments through pregnancy of inseminated gilts and performance of neonatal offspring. Sperm motion, viability, and morphology characteristics were evaluated in all ***: Transmission electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, and hyperspectral imaging techniques were used to confirm attachment of MNP-conjugates to damaged spermatozoa. The motility of nanoselected spermatozoa was improved(P viability of boar sperm, as assessed by the abundance of reactive oxygen species and the integrity of the acrosome, plasma membrane, and mitochondrial membrane was not different between nanoselected and control spermatozoa. Investigating the surface integrity of aluminium based composites machined by EDM

In the present work, the surface characteristics of Electrical Discharge Machined (EDM) Al (6351)eSiC and Al (6351)eSiCeB4C composites are investigated. The composites are prepared by employing the conventional stir casting technique, as it can produce better particle dispersion in the matrix. The detailed experimental study is performed on the composites by varying current (I), duty factor (t), pulse on time (Ton), and the gap voltage (v) in order to analyze the Heat Affected Zone (HAZ) formed in the sub surface and the average crater diameter formed on the machined surface of the composites as an output function. The formation of recast layers, presence of bubbles and the surface texture of the composites at various machining conditions are observed. The results show that the increased Metal Removal Rate (MRR) increases the depth of HAZ and the average crater diameter on the machined area. Further, the addition of B4C particles to the composite produces more surface defect than the AleSiC composite.

A Review on Stabilization of Expansive Soil Using Industrial Solid Wastes

In developing countries like India, Industrialization is rising rapidly, and also?a great paucity of land is there, the demand for exploitation of industrial?wastes?which coming from industries is increasing. From geotechnical perspective,?fly ash, granite and quarry waste, cement kiln dust, silica fume, rice husk etc.?are the waste materials?which?have effectual features requisites by an excellent soil stabilization admixture. Stabilization using solid wastes is one of the different?methods of treatment, to improve the engineering properties and make it?suitable for construction. This paper briefs about the recent trends in stabilization of expansive soil using industrial waste (granite and quarry waste, cement kiln?dust, silica fume, rice husk) as stabilizers for decreasing the environmental?hazards.

In current days,the domain of Internet of Things(IoT)and Wireless Sensor Networks(WSN)are combined for enhancing the sensor related data transmission in the forthcoming networking *** and routing techniques are treated as the effective methods highly used to attain reduced energy consumption and lengthen the lifetime of the WSN assisted IoT *** this view,this paper presents an Ensemble of Metaheuristic Optimization based QoS aware Clustering with Multihop Routing(EMOQoSCMR)Protocol for IoT assisted *** proposed EMO-QoSCMR protocol aims to achieve QoS parameters such as energy,throughput,delay,and *** proposed model involves two stage processes namely clustering and ***,the EMO-QoSCMR protocol involves crossentropy rain optimization algorithm based clustering(CEROAC)technique to select an optimal set of cluster heads(CHs)and construct ***,oppositional chaos game optimization based routing(OCgOR)technique is employed for the optimal set of routes in the IoT assisted *** proposed model derives a fitness function based on the parameters involved in the IoT nodes such as residual energy,distance to sink node,*** proposed EMOQoSCMR technique has resulted to an enhanced NAN of 64 nodes whereas the LEACH,PSO-ECHS,E-OEERP,and iCSHS methods have resulted in a lesser NAN of 2,10,42,and 51 *** performance of the presented protocol has been evaluated interms of energy efficiency and network lifetime.
