Tumour lysis syndrome(TLS)is a potentially fatal complication of malignancy or its treatment.This uncommon syndrome comprises laboratory findings of hyperuricaemia,hypocalcaemia,hyperkalaemia and hyperphosphataemia.A literature search revealed a total of eight patients,with testicular cancer,who had TLS.All these patients had metastatic disease.We present a unique case of a 47-year-old gentleman we saw in clinic,who presented with a rapidly growing right groin mass and acute breathlessness,and discuss the diagnosis and management of TLS.TLS is extremely rare in testicular cancer but necessitates the awareness of urologists.TLS can occur spontaneously in testicular malignancy.Cell lysis in a rapidly proliferating germ cell tumour is a possible mechanism.The prompt identification and institution of management for TLS is crucial to improve clinical outcomes.

The use of artificial urinary sphincter(AUS)for the treatment of stress urinary incontinence has become more prevalent,especially in the“prostate-specific antigen(PSA)-era”,when more patients are treated for localized prostate cancer.The first widely accepted device was the AMS 800,but since then,other devices have also entered the market.While efficacy has increased with improvements in technology and technique,and patient satisfaction is high,AUS implantation still has inherent risks and complications of any implant surgery,in addition to the unique challenges of urethral complications that may be associated with the cuff.Furthermore,the unique nature of the AUS,with a control pump,reservoir,balloon cuff,and connecting tubing,means that mechanical complications can also arise from these individual parts.This article aims to present and summarize the current literature on the management of complications of AUS,especially urethral atrophy.We conducted a literature search on PubMed from January 1990 to December 2018 on AUS complications and their management.We review the various potential complications and their management.AUS complications are either mechanical or nonmechanical complications.Mechanical complications usually involve malfunction of the AUS.Nonmechanical complications include infection,urethral atrophy,cuff erosion,and stricture.Challenges exist especially in the management of urethral atrophy,with both tandem implants,transcorporal cuffs,and cuff downsizing all postulated as potential remedies.Although complications from AUS implants are not common,knowledge of the management of these issues are crucial to ensure care for patients with these implants.Further studies are needed to further evaluate these techniques.

Iron-based superconductors have been identified as a novel platform for realizing Majorana zero modes(MZMs) without heterostructures, due to their intrinsic topological properties and high-Tc superconductivity. In the two-dimensional limit, the FeTe1-xSexmonolayer, a topological band inversion has recently been experimentally observed. Here, we propose to create MZMs by applying an in-plane magnetic field to the FeTe1-xSexmonolayer and tuning the local chemical potential via electric gating.Owing to the anisotropic magnetic couplings on edges, an in-plane magnetic field drives the system into an intrinsic high-order topological superconductor phase with Majorana corner modes. Furthermore, MZMs can occur at the domain wall of chemical potentials at either one edge or certain type of tri-junction in the two-dimensional bulk. Our study not only reveals the FeTe1-xSexmonolayer as a promising Majorana platform with scalability and electrical tunability and within reach of contemporary experimental capability,but also provides a general principle to search for realistic realization of high-order topological superconductivity.

BACKGROUND Chronic mitral regurgitation(MR)is a volume overload state that causes dilatation of the left sided cardiac chambers.The presence of significant dilatation is considered an indication for mitral valve intervention,however,aging may affect left ventricular(LV)remodeling independently of valvular disease.The objective of this study was to examine age-related changes in cardiac remodeling in a broad population of patients with chronic MR.METHODS Consecutive subjects that underwent echocardiography examinations recorded in the echocardiography database of a university-affiliated laboratory were retrieved.Subjects were categorized into none/mild,moderate or severe MR.For purposes of analysis of differences with aging,the population was divided into groups above and below 70 years of age and standard echocardiographic measurements were compared between the groups.RESULTS A total of 3492 subjects with at least moderate MR(mean age:76 years,52%female)were included in the study and compared to 18,250 subjects with none or mild MR.Older patients had significantly smaller LV end-diastolic diameters and volumes and significantly larger left atrial(LA)volumes when compared to the younger group.LA volume index increased in both age groups as MR severity increased,while LV end-diastolic volume increased with increasing MR only in the younger population.CONCLUSIONS Cardiac remodeling in chronic MR is significantly influenced by age.Guideline based recommendations of timing of mitral valve interventions in asymptomatic MR patients,based on assessment of LA and LV remodeling,may need to take age into account.

The Unmanned Surface Vehicle(USV)navigation system needs an accurate,firm,and reliable performance to avoid obstacles,as well as carry out automatic movements during missions.The Global Positioning System(GPS)is often used in these systems to provide absolute position information.However,the GPS measurements are affected by external conditions such as atmospheric bias and multipath effects.This leads to the inability of the stand-alone GPS to provide accurate positioning for the USV systems.One of the solutions to correct the errors of this sensor is by conducting GPS and Inertial Measurement Unit(IMU)fusion.The IMU sensor is complementary to the GPS and not affected by external conditions.However,it accumulates noise as time elapses.Therefore,this study aims to determine the fusion of the GPS and IMU sensors for the i-Boat navigation system,which is a USV developed by Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember(ITS)Surabaya.Using the Unscented Kalman filter(UKF),sensor fusion was carried out based on the state equation defined by the dynamic and kinematic mathematical model of ship motion in 6 degrees of freedom.Then the performance of this model was tested through several simulations using different combinations of attitude measurement data.Two scenarios were conducted in the simulations:attitude measurement inclusion and exclusion(Scenarios I and II,respectively).The results showed that the position estimation in Scenario II was better than in Scenario I,with the Root Mean Square Error(RMSE)value of 0.062 m.Further simulations showed that the presence of attitude measurement data caused a decrease in the fusion accuracy.The UKF simulation with eight measurement parameters(Scenarios A,B and C)and seven measurement parameters(Scenarios D,E and F),as well as analytical attitude movement,indicated that yaw data had the largest noise accumulation compared to roll and pitch.

Implications of future climate change on crop and irrigation water requirements in a semi-arid river basin using CMIP6 GCMs

Agriculture faces risks due to increasing stress from climate change,particularly in semi-arid regions.Lack of understanding of crop water requirement(CWR)and irrigation water requirement(IWR)in a changing climate may result in crop failure and socioeconomic problems that can become detrimental to agriculture-based economies in emerging nations worldwide.Previous research in CWR and IWR has largely focused on large river basins and scenarios from the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 3(CMIP3)and Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 5(CMIP5)to account for the impacts of climate change on crops.Smaller basins,however,are more susceptible to regional climate change,with more significant impacts on crops.This study estimates CWRs and IWRs for five crops(sugarcane,wheat,cotton,sorghum,and soybean)in the Pravara River Basin(area of 6537 km^(2))of India using outputs from the most recent Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 6(CMIP6)General Circulation Models(GCMs)under Shared Socio-economic Pathway(SSP)245 and SSP585 scenarios.An increase in mean annual rainfall is projected under both scenarios in the 2050s and 2080s using ten selected CMIP6 GCMs.CWRs for all crops may decline in almost all of the CMIP6 GCMs in the 2050s and 2080s(with the exceptions of ACCESS-CM-2 and ACCESS-ESM-1.5)under SSP245 and SSP585 scenarios.The availability of increasing soil moisture in the root zone due to increasing rainfall and a decrease in the projected maximum temperature may be responsible for this decline in CWR.Similarly,except for soybean and cotton,the projected IWRs for all other three crops under SSP245 and SSP585 scenarios show a decrease or a small increase in the 2050s and 2080s in most CMIP6 GCMs.These findings are important for agricultural researchers and water resource managers to implement long-term crop planning techniques and to reduce the negative impacts of climate change and associated rainfall variability to avert crop failure and agricultural losses.

This study attempts to investigate the factors determining COVID-19 deaths during the pandemic across countries by employing a rich dataset sourced from 94 countries updated till 6 February,2022.For empirical analysis,the study makes use of cross-sectional linear regression technique in the first part and after required diagnostic tests use 2SLS regression technique for correcting possible endogeneity bias in the second part.Findings from the study indicate that factors like total reported cases,population size,population over 70 years of age,extreme poverty,and human development index play significant role in determining COVID-19-related death.Further,to check the robustness of the findings the present study employed LASSO regression.Findings from the study highlight the possibility of government intervention to devise appropriate policies to control COVID-related incidence and death.

Seed size critically affects grain yield of crops and hence represents a key breeding target.The develop-ment of embryo-nourishing endosperm is a key driver of seed expansion.We here report unexpected dual roles of the transcription factor EIN3 in regulating seed size.These EIN3 functions have remained largely undiscovered because they oppose each other.Capitalizing on the analysis of multiple ethylene biosynthesis mutants,we demonstrate that EIN3 represses endosperm and seed development in a pathway regulated by ethylene.We,in addition,provide evidence that EIN3-mediated synergid nucleus disintegration promotes endosperm expansion.Interestingly,synergid nucleus disintegration is not affected in various ethylene biosynthesis mutants,suggesting that this promoting function of EIN3 is inde-pendent of ethylene.Whereas the growth-inhibitory ethylene-dependent EIN3 action appears to be encoded by sporophytic tissue,the growth-promoting role of EIN3 is induced by fertilization,revealing a generation conflict that converges toward the key signaling component EIN3.

Activation of nuclear factor kappa B （NF-κB） is a hallmark of various central nervous system （CNS） pathologies. Neuron-specific inhibition of its transcriptional activator subunit RelA, also referred to as p65, promotes neuronal survival under a range of conditions, i.e., for ischemic or excitotoxic insults. In macro- and microglial cells, post-lesional activation of NF-κB triggers a growth-permissive program which contributes to neural tissue inflammation, scar formation, and the expression of axonal growth inhibitors. Intriguingly, inhibition of such inducible NF-~B in the neuro-glial compartment, i.e., by genetic ablation of RelA or overexpression of a trans- dominant negative mutant of its upstream regulator IκBa, significantly enhances functional recovery and promotes axonal regeneration in the mature CNS. By contrast, depletion of the NF-κB subunit p50, which lacks transcriptional activator function and acts as a transcriptional repressor on its own, causes precocious neuronal loss and exacerbates axonal degeneration in the lesioned brain. Collectively, the data imply that NF-κB orchestrates a multicellular pro- gram in which κB-dependent gene expression establishes a growth-repulsive terrain within the post-lesioned brain that limits structural regeneration of neuronal circuits. Considering these subunit-specific functions, interference with the NF-κB pathway might hold clinical potentials to improve functional restoration following traumatic CNS injury.

The Arabidopsis （Arabidopsis thaliana L.） genome encodes for four distinct classes of homeodomain leucinezipper （HD-ZIP） transcription factors （HD-ZIPI to HD-ZIPIV）, which are all organized in multi-gene families. HD-ZIP transcription factors act as sequence-specific DNA-binding proteins that are able to control the expression level of target genes. While HD-ZIPI and HD-ZIPII proteins are mainly associated with environmental responses, HD-ZIPIII and HD- ZIPIV are primarily known to act as patterning factors. Recent studies have challenged this view. It appears that several of the different HD-ZlP families interact genetically to align both morphogenesis and environmental responses, most likely by modulating phytohormone-signaling networks.
