Renoprotective Effect of the Combination of Renin-angiotensin System Inhibitor and Calcium Channel Blocker in Patients with Hypertension and Chronic Kidney Disease

Background：Renin-angiotensin system inhibitor and calcium channel blocker （CCB） are widely used in controlling blood pressure （BP） in patients with chronic kidney disease （CKD）.We carried out a meta-analysis to compare the renoprotective effect of the combination of angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor （ACEI） or angiotensin receptor blocker （ARB） and CCB （i.e.,ACEI/ARB ＋ CCB） with ACEI/ ARB monotherapy in patients with hypertension and ***：Publications were identified from PubMed,Embase,Medline,and Cochrane *** randomized controlled trials （RCTs） of BP lowering treatment for patients with hypertension and CKD were *** outcomes of end-stage renal disease （ESRD）,cardiovascular events,BP,urinary protein measures,estimated glomerular filtration rate （GFR）,and adverse events were ***：Based on seven RCTs with 628 patients,ACEI/ARB ＋ CCB did not show additional benefit for the incidence of ESRD （risk ratio [RR] =0.84;95% confidence interval [CI]：0.52-1.33） and cardiovascular events （RR =0.58;95% CI：0.21-1.63） significantly,compared with ACEI/ARB *** were no significant differences in change from baseline to the end points in diastolic BP （weighted mean difference [WMD] =-1.28 mmHg;95% CI：-3.18 to-0.62）,proteinuria （standard mean difference =-0.55;95% CI：-1.41 to-0.30）,GFR （WMD =-0.32 ml/min;95% CI：-1.53 to-0.89）,and occurrence of adverse events （RR =1.05;95% CI：0.72-1.53）.However,ACEI/ARB ＋ CCB showed a greater reduction in systolic BP （WMD =-4.46 mmHg;95% CI：-6.95 to-1.97）,compared with ACEI/ARB ***：ACEI/ARB ＋ CCB had no additional renoprotective benefit beyond than what could be achieved with ACEI/ARB monotherapy.

Engineering high-performance chemiluminescent probes via enzymatic pocket targeting: high-throughput screening for ultralong afterglow imaging of orthotopic hepatocellular carcinoma

Hepatocellular carcinoma （HCC） is a highly aggressive liver malignancy and the main form of liver cancer. Early diagnosis and treatment of HCC can effectively reduce mortality. Carboxylesterase （CE）-specific detection and imaging can be used for early diagnosis and image-guided surgical of HCC. However, traditional optical probes suffer from poor selectivity and low imaging signal-to-noise ratio. Here, we have constructed a series of chemiluminescent probes for carboxylesterase detection based on the strategy of enzymatic pocket-oriented steric tailoring techniques. The probes with different unique and excellent properties have been obtained through the structure-based steric hindrance adjustment on the recognition site. Here, CE-2 has been successfully used for high-throughput screening of rapid carboxylesterase inhibitors due to its extremely low detection limit (2.5×10-4U mL-1) and fast recognition ability. CE-3 has been successfully used for image-guided surgery of orthotopic hepatocellular carcinoma due to its ultra-long chemiluminescence imaging （over 12 h） of hepatocellular carcinoma. This study may promote advances in the rapid detection and screening of inhibitory drugs for CE and the field of surgical navigation in HCC.

Effects of pH and soil texture on the adsorption and transport of Cd in soils

To better understand the adsorption and transport of Cd2+ in soils, column experiments were conducted with various soils and inflow solutions with different pH values. Breakthrough curves (BTCs) of the column tests were fitted using both the equilibrium and non-equilibrium models installed in the program of CXTFIT. Results showed that the equilibrium model fitted most of BTCs reasonably well. Values of the retardation factor (R) and the distribution coefficient (kd) for Cd2+ adsorption and transport increased with increasing pH values of the inflow solution and of the soil. However, the clay content was not a key factor to affect R and kd for Cd2+ adsorption and transport. The average dispersivity values and the variance values of dispersivity increased with increasing clay content of the soils.

Nitrogen and phosphorus changes and optimal drainage time of flooded paddy field based on environmental factors

While many controlled irrigation and drainage techniques have been adopted in China, the environmental effects of these techniques require further investigation. This study was conducted to examine the changes of nitrogen and phosphorus of a flooded paddy water system after fertilizer application and at each growth stage so as to obtain the optimal drainage time at each growth stage. Four treatments with different water level management methods at each growth stage were conducted under the condition of ten-day continuous flooding. Results show that the ammonia nitrogen （ NH4-N ） concentration reached the peak value once the fertilizer was applied, and then decreased to a relatively low level seven to ten days later, and that the nitrate nitrogen （NO^-N） concentration gradually rose to its peak value, which appeared later in subsurface water than in surface water. Continuous flooding could effectively reduce the concentrations of NH^-N , NO3-N, and total phosphorus （TP） in surface water. However, the paddy water disturbance, in the process of soil surface adsorption and nitrification, caused NH]-N to be released and increased the concentrations of NH4-N and NO^-N in surface water. A multi-objective controlled drainage model based on environmental factors was established in order to obtain the optimal drainage time at each growth stage and better guide the drainage practices of farmers. The optimal times for surface drainage are the fourth, sixth, fifth, and sixth days after flooding at the tillering, jointing-booting, heading-flowering, and milking stages, respectively.

Grain size dependent strength,known as Hall-Petch relation,has been approved to be valid in crystalline metals and ***,softening would eventually occur as grain size reduced into nanoscale that below a critical ***,it is essential to find a way to break the strength limitation by avoiding the deformation mechanism transition from dislocation-mediated to grain-boundary-mediated *** replacing grain boundary(GB)of nanocrystalline Cu with graphene,in the present study,molecular dynamics simulations show that graphene-boundary(GrB)embedded GrB/Cu nanocomposites exhibit enhanced enlarged Hall-Petch slope with decreasing grain *** absence of inverse-Hall-Petch relation and the extremely high strength derived at the GrB/Cu nanocomposites were interpreted by the high back stress and abundant dislocation activity that attributed from the high-degree of heterogeneous structure of the nanocomposites.
