Study on the green extraction of corncob xylan by deep eutectic solvent

Corn as one of the world's major food crops,its by-product corn cob is also rich in resources.However,the unreasonable utilization of corn cob often causes the environmental pollution,waste of resources and other problems.As one of the most abundant polymers in nature,xylan is widely used in food,medicine,materials and other fields.Corn cob is rich in xylan,which is an ideal raw material for extracting xylan.However,the intractable lignin is covalently linked to xylan,which increases the difficulty of xylan extraction.It has been reported that the deep eutectic solvent(DES)could preferentially dissolve lignin in biomass,thereby dissolving the xylan.Then,the xylan in the extract was separated by ethanol precipitation method.The xylan precipitate was obtained after centrifugation,while the supernatant was retained.The components of the supernatant after ethanol precipitation were separated by the rotary evaporator.The ethanol,water and DES were collected for the subsequent extraction of corn cob xylan.In this study,a novel way was provided for the green production of corn cob xylan.The DES was used to extract xylan from corn cob which was used as the raw material.The effects of solid-liquid ratio,reaction time,reaction temperature and water content of DES on the extraction rate of corn cob xylan were investigated by the single factor test.Furthermore,the orthogonal test was designed to optimize the xylan extraction process.The structure of corn cob xylan was analyzed and verified.The results showed that the optimum extraction conditions of corn cob xylan were as follows:the ratio of corn cob to DES was 1:15(g:mL),the extraction time was 3 h,the extraction temperature was 60℃,and the water content of DES was 70%.Under these conditions,the extraction rate of xylan was 16.46%.The extracted corn cob xylan was distinctive triple helix of polysaccharide,which was similar to the structure of commercially available xylan.Xylan was effectively and workably extracted from corn cob by the DES method.This study provided a new

With the help of pre-trained language models,the accuracy of the entity linking task has made great strides in recent years.However,most models with excellent performance require fine-tuning on a large amount of training data using large pre-trained language models,which is a hardware threshold to accomplish this task.Some researchers have achieved competitive results with less training data through ingenious methods,such as utilizing information provided by the named entity recognition model.This paper presents a novel semantic-enhancement-based entity linking approach,named semantically enhanced hardware-friendly entity linking(SHEL),which is designed to be hardware friendly and efficient while maintaining good performance.Specifically,SHEL's semantic enhancement approach consists of three aspects:(1)semantic compression of entity descriptions using a text summarization model;(2)maximizing the capture of mention contexts using asymmetric heuristics;(3)calculating a fixed size mention representation through pooling operations.These series of semantic enhancement methods effectively improve the model's ability to capture semantic information while taking into account the hardware constraints,and significantly improve the model's convergence speed by more than 50%compared with the strong baseline model proposed in this paper.In terms of performance,SHEL is comparable to the previous method,with superior performance on six well-established datasets,even though SHEL is trained using a smaller pre-trained language model as the encoder.

The development of effective and sustainable solutions for pleiotropic water purification becomes urgent and attractive.Heterogeneous Fenton-like catalysts for activation of peroxymonosulfate（PMS） to purify organic wastewater show great promise.In this work,by tuning metal loading with an in-situ polydopamine coating strategy,oxygen vacancy-enriched Co3O4loading on N-doped carbon nanotubes（CNTs） were constructed to enhance PMS activation efficiency for pollutants degradation.Impressively,the obtained modified CNTs afford a well-developed N-containing network structure,which is further endowed with abundant Co（Ⅱ）/Co（Ⅲ） redox cycles and significant metal-carbon interactions.In particular,the surface N doping in CNTs might induce the oriented enrichment of pollutants around the catalyst,which reduces the migration distance and correspondingly improves the utilization of reactive oxidative species.The electron transfer efficiency of the catalyst can be further improved by incorporating oxygen vacancy-enriched Co3O4.The performance results show that the optimal NC/Co-1 could mineralize 20 × 10-6of bisphenol A（BPA） by almost 98% in 8 min.A low reaction activation energy(26.05 kJ·mol-1) in BPA degradation was demonstrated by the NC/Co-1.More importantly,NC/Co-1 can inherit excellent degradation performance towards oxytetracycline,2,4-dichlorophenol,and tetracycline,showing wide practical flexibility.In addition,by virtue of the photothermal conversion property,NC/Co-1 achieves an additive function for interfacial solar water evaporation(1.84 kg·m-2·h-1,112.51%),showing impressive potential for clean water recovery under complicated environmental pollution conditions.

Photothermal material applied in environmental governance has attracted growing attention.By combining the Stober method and dopamine-triggered coating strategy,Co-Mn precursor was in situ incorporated into the poly dopamine（PDA） layer over the surface of silica cores.Afterwards,a unique photothermal nanosphere with SiO2core and thin carbon layer and dual Co-Mn oxides shell was allowed to form by sequential heat treatment in the inert atmosphere（SiO2@CoMn/C）.The bimetallic fraction of Co/Mn in the carbon layer and post-treatment calcination temperature was comprehensively tuned to optimize the peroxymonosulfate（PMS） activation performance of the catalyst.The state of bimetallic species was studied including their physical distribution,chemical valence,and interplay by various characterizations.Impressively,Co oxides appear as dominant monodispersed nanoparticles（～ 10 nm）,while Mn with cluster-like morphology is observed to uniformly distribute over thin-layer carbon and adhered to the surface of SiO2nanospheres（～ 250 nm）.The calcined temperature could tune the oxidized state of Co species,leading to the optimization of the catalytic performance of introduced dual metal species.As a result,this obtained optimal catalyst integrated the advantages of exposed bimetallic CoMn species and N-doped thin carbon to deliver excellent catalytic PMS activation performance and photothermal synergetic catalytic mineralization ability for diversiform pollutants.Further reactions condition controls and anion interference studies were conducted to identify the adaptability of the optimal catalyst.Moreover,the application of solar-driven interfacial water evaporation using optimal SiO2@Co3Mn1/C-600 catalyst was explored,showing a high water evaporation rate of 1.48 kg·m-2·h-1and an efficiency of 95.2%,further revealing a comprehensive governance functionality of obtained material in the complex pollution condition.

BACKGROUND Klinefelter syndrome(KS) is a genetic disease of male sex chromosome malformations that affects sperm production and reduces testosterone production. It has been reported that there is currently more than 10 cases of KS combined with antiphospholipid syndrome(APS).CASE SUMMARY Here, we describe a 31-year-old male patient with chromosome 47, XXY type, who suffered deep vein thrombosis of the lower limbs accompanied by abnormal antiphospholipid antibody, lupus anticoagulant and factor VⅢ. After treatment with immunoadsorption therapy, glucocorticoids, cyclophosphamide, intravenous immunoglobulin and anticoagulant therapy, the patient showed dramatic symptomatic improvement. during the follow-up, the patient did not develop any new thrombotic events.CONCLUSION Immunoadsorption combined with glucocorticoid and cyclophosphamide shock comprehensive treatment has achieved significant results for patients with KS combined with antiphospholipid syndrome.

Improving Link Prediction Models through a Performance Enhancement Scheme: A Study on Semi-Supervised Learning and Model Soup

As an important method for knowledge graph(KG) complementation， link prediction has become a hot research topic in recent years. In this paper， a performance enhancement scheme for link prediction models based on the idea of semi-supervised learning and model soup is proposed， which effectively improves the model performance on several mainstream link prediction models with small changes to their architecture. This novel scheme consists of two main parts， one is predicting potential fact triples in the graph with semi-supervised learning strategies， the other is creatively combining semi-supervised learning and model soup to further improve the final model performance without adding significant computational overhead. Experiments validate the effectiveness of the scheme for a variety of link prediction models， especially on the dataset with dense relationships. In terms of CompGCN， the model with the best overall performance among the tested models improves its Hits@1 metric by 14.7% on the FB15K-237 dataset and 7.8% on the WN18RR dataset after using the enhancement scheme. Meanwhile， it is observed that the semi-supervised learning strategy in the augmentation scheme has a significant improvement for multi-class link prediction models， and the performance improvement brought by the introduction of the model soup is related to the specific tested models， as the performances of some models are improved while others remain largely unaffected.

Chemotherapy remains one of the most prevailing strategies for cancer treatment.However,its treatment effect is hampered by drug resistance,nonspecific tumor targeting,and severe toxic side effects.Combination chemotherapy with synergistic effect has become an attractive tumor therapy.N6-methyladenosine(m6A)regulators determine the fate of m6A-modified transcripts and play vital roles in cancer development and drug resistance.Gene therapy such as small interfering RNA(siRNA)is a promising strategy to reduce the abnormal gene expression of m6A regulators.However,its poor selectivity and high systemic toxicity necessitate the use of delivery vectors to target specific cells and tissues.Here,we constructed a dual-functional targeted nanodrug platform for the synergetic m6A-associated epigenetic regulation and chemotherapy of ovarian cancer.We encapsulated siRNA targeting the m6A reader YT521-B homology(YTH)N6-methyladenosine RNA-binding protein 1(YTHDF1)and docetaxel(DTX),the first-line chemotherapeutic agent of ovarian cancer,into mesenchymal stem cell-derived small extracellular vesicles(MsEVs).This nanosystem exhibits significant tumor targeting and endo/lysosomal escape of siYTHDF1.It effectively depletes YTHDF1 and suppresses the protein translation of eukaryotic translation initiation factor 3 subunit C(EIF3C)in an m6A-dependent manner.The combination of YTHDF1-targeting epigenetic regulation significantly enhances the anti-tumor effect of DTX and effectively inhibits ovarian cancer progression without causing significant systemic toxicity.This co-delivery nanoplatform offers a promising approach for combinational cancer treatment,showing improved anti-tumor efficacy through the synergistic effects of epigenetic regulation and chemotherapeutic inhibition.

BACKGROUND Eosinophilic gastroenteritis(EGE)is a chronic recurrent disease with abnormal eosinophilic infiltration in the gastrointestinal tract.Glucocorticoids remain the most common treatment method.However,disease relapse and glucocorticoid dependence remain notable problems.To date,few studies have illuminated the prognosis of EGE and risk factors for disease relapse.AIM To describe the clinical characteristics of EGE and possible predictive factors for disease relapse based on long-term follow-up.METHODS This was a retrospective cohort study of 55 patients diagnosed with EGE admitted to one medical center between 2013 and 2022.Clinical records were collected and analyzed.Kaplan-Meier curves and log-rank tests were conducted to reveal the risk factors for long-term relapse-free survival(RFS).RESULTS EGE showed a median onset age of 38 years and a slight female predominance(56.4%).The main clinical symptoms were abdominal pain(89.1%),diarrhea(61.8%),nausea(52.7%),distension(49.1%)and vomiting(47.3%).Forty-three(78.2%)patients received glucocorticoid treatment,and compared with patients without glucocorticoid treatments,they were more likely to have elevated serum immunoglobin E(IgE)(86.8%vs 50.0%,P=0.022)and descending duodenal involvement(62.8%vs 27.3%,P=0.046)at diagnosis.With a median follow-up of 67 mo,all patients survived,and 56.4%had at least one relapse.Six variables at baseline might have been associated with the overall RFS rate,including age at diagnosis24 kg/m^(2)(HR 0.3922,95%CI:0.1916-0.8027,P=0.014),disease duration from symptom onset to diagnosis>3.5 mo(HR 2.4725,95%CI:1.220-5.0110,P=0.011),vomiting(HR 3.1259,95%CI:1.5246-6.4093,P=0.001),total serum IgE>300 KU/L at diagnosis(HR 0.2773,95%CI:0.1204-0.6384,P=0.022)and glucocorticoid treatment(HR 6.1434,95%CI:2.8446-13.2676,P=0.003).CONCLUSION In patients with EGE,younger onset age,longer disease course,vomiting and glucocorticoid treatment were
