Photobiomodulation:a novel approach to promote trans-differentiation of adipose-derived stem cells into neuronal-like cells

Fast Coordinated Power Control for Improving Inertial and Voltage Support Capability of Battery Energy Storage Systems

This paper proposes a fast coordinated power control method based on two augmented channels(AC)in battery energy storage system(BESS)to improve inertial and voltage support capability,i.e.,a frequency-reactive power channel(FRPC)and a voltage-real power channel(VRPC).For frequency control in the power distribution system with high resistance/inductance ratio,the coupling mechanism between rate of change of frequency(RoCoF)and required reactive power(RRP)of grids is analyzed,indicating RoCoF is proportional to ***,RoCoF is utilized in FRPC to generate reactive power for complementary inertial emulating ***,for voltage control,coupling characteristics between rate of change of voltage(RoCoV)and demanding real power(DRP)of grids is also studied,revealing RoCoV is proportional to ***,it can be adopted in VRPC to generate real power for complementary voltage ***,grid-voltage-modulated direct power control is selected as the inner power control loop to track power references with faster dynamic performance compared with traditional vector-oriented ***,simulations and hardware-in-loop experiments validate improvement in performance of grid frequency and voltage control based on the proposed method.

Litter removal impacts on soil biodiversity and eucalypt plantation development in the seasonal tropics

Oregano and Rosemary Essential Oils in Collagen Fiber and Polyvinyl Alcohol Films: Application as Biodegradable Active Packaging for Ready-to-Eat Meat Products

Developing packaging using biomaterials offers a solution to the problem of solid plastic waste in urban areas. However, selecting suitable materials remains challenging, particularly when the packaging is intended for food products with high moisture content, such as meat. In response to this challenge, a novel film comprising a blend of collagen fiber and polyvinyl alcohol, supplemented with varying concentrations of oregano and rosemary essential oils, was developed. The mechanical properties, in vitro antioxidant activity, and chemical composition of these collagen fiber and polyvinyl alcohol films, enhanced with oregano and rosemary essential oils, were thoroughly characterized. The compounds γ-terpinene and ρ-cymene played a significant role in the antioxidant activity of the packaging. The impact of this active packaging on the quality of sliced mortadella was evaluated over 0, 3, 6, and 9 days of refrigeration. Time significantly influenced most of the variables examined. The concentration of essential oils (0%, 2%, 4%, and 6%) significantly affected the moisture level, water activity, pH, and Escherichia coli count in the packaged product. For lipid oxidation analysis, the type of essential oil proved significant, with oregano essential oil demonstrating superior activity. A pro-oxidant effect was noted in products with 6% rosemary essential oil. Packages containing essential oils from oregano and rosemary exhibited lower E. coli counts. Films enriched with essential oils showed a higher rate of biodegradation.

Entropy model to assess sediment resuspension probability and trap efficiency of small dams

In the Brazilian drylands, there are tens of thousands of small dams. Despite their paramount importance to the rural population, they are rarely monitored. Water demand increases with time while, simultaneously, siltation reduces reservoir water capacity and availability. Reservoir siltation models are, therefore, mandatory to manage the numerous ungauged small dams in these *** objective of the current study is to improve sediment trap efficiency(TE) modeling by including resuspension as a key probabilistic process. The Shannon entropy was used to estimate the sediment resuspension probability, which was merged with the Camp model and generated the RETSED entropy model. To validate the RETSED model, an experimental check dam(ECD, 300 m3), located in the Gilbu es desertification site, Brazil, was monitored hourly during one hydrological year(July 2018-July 2019). Measurements show that the annual volumetric decline of the check dam was 12%; and that the average trap efficiency equaled 86%. Only 9.5% of the hourly sediment concentration outflow exceeded the average plus one standard deviation, showing that the reservoir is well mixed; a fact which highlights the relevance of the resuspension process. Three empirical models failed to mimic the experimental results: Churchill(TE = 99%), Brune(TE = 75%), and Maryland(TE = 94%). According to the RETSED entropy model, the resuspension probability during the experiment was 10%and TE = 81%, a value only 6% below the measured one. The Camp model simulated TE = 89%, only 3%higher than the measured value, but confirmed the Camp model's tendency to overestimate TE due to a disregard of resuspension. The deterministic model showed low sensitivity concerning the hydrodynamic effects, whereas the entropy formulation proved to be more consistent with physical behavior: the resuspension probability clearly increased and trap efficiency decreased with rising reservoir discharge.

Processing of materials in the form of ceramics normally involves several steps including calcination at a relatively low temperature for synthesis of the end-product powder and sintering at a high temperature for *** work we have been developing introduces a novel approach enabling synthesis plus sintering of materials in a single running experiment by using electric fields,ending with dense ceramics that display grains noticeably finer than in conventional *** new paradigm is fully illustrated with experiments conducted on amorphous CaCu3Ti4O12 precursor powder,shown to experience,on heating,crystallization through intermediate phases,followed by chemical reaction leading to synthesis of the end-product powder,plus densification depending on field *** processing time and furnace temperature are considerably reduced,demonstrating that enhanced synthesis and sintering rates applied under field *** results found in Bi2/3Cu3Ti4O12are also *** different factors that may contribute to this unique scenario,including Joule heating,defect generation,and reduction of free energy for nuclei formation promoted by the applied field,are briefly ***,the findings we bring here are exclusive as they show an exploitable way that allows rapid processing of materials with good control over particle and grain coarsening.
