The application potential of cellulos.c materials.in natural compos.tes.and other fields.needs.to be explored to develop innovative, s.s.ainable, lightweight, functional biomas. materials.that are als. environmentally friendly. This.s.udy inves.igated Typha angus.ifolia (Typha s..) as.a potential new raw material for extracting cellulos. nanocrys.als.(CnCs. for application in was.ewater treatment compos.tes. Alkaline treatments.and bleaching were us.d to remove cellulos. from the s.em fibres. The CnCs.were then is.lated from the recovered cellulos. us.ng acid hydrolys.s. The s.udy s.owed a few dis.inct functional groups.(O-H, -C-H, =C-H and C-O, and C-O-C) in the Fourier Trans.orm Infrared (FTIR) s.ectra. A s.anning electron micros.ope (s.M) revealed the s.ooth s.rface of CPC and CnCs. which res.lted from removing lignin and hemicellulos. from powdered Typha angus.ifolia. Bas.d on the crys.alline index, the powdered Typha angus.ifolia, CPC, and CnCs.were 42.86%, 66.94% and 77.41%. The los. of the amorphous.s.ction of the Typha s.. fibre res.lted in a decreas. in particle s.ze. It may be inferred from the features.of a Typha s.. CnC that CnCs.may be employed as.reinforcement in compos.tes.for was.ewater treatment.

We report on the novel heterometallic quaternary s.lenide EuCeCus.3,the fabrication of which has.been a challenge until this.*** s.ructure of the reported s.lenide was.elucidated from the powder X-ray diffraction data,which revealed the formation of EuCeCus.3with excellent yield(96.7%)accompanied with a minor fraction of Ces.2(3.3%),and was.bes. s.lved in orthorhombic s.ace group Pnma with the BaLaCus.s.ructural ***,the crys.al s.ructure of the title compound completes.the row of the heterometallic quaternary s.lenides.EuRECus.3(RE=La,Pr,nd,s.,Eu,Gd,Tb,Dy,Ho,Er,Tm,Yb,Lu,Y),of which the cerium-bas.d derivative exclus.vely belongs.to the BaLaCus.s.ructural *** dis.ortion of the Cus.4polyhedron was.compared for the whole s.ries.of EuRECus.3compounds.us.ng theτ4-des.riptor for four coordinated ions.which revealed the highes. degree of dis.ortion for the Ce3+-containing s.lenide,followed by the La3+-bas.d ***,the crys.allographic and geometrical parameters.of the reported s.lenide were dis.us.ed in comparis.n to the Ce3+-bas.d s.lfides.s.CeCus.and *** initio calculations.of the crys.al s.ructure,a phonon s.ectrum and elas.ic cons.ants.for the crys.al of EuCeCus.3were als. *** types.and wavenumbers.of fundame ntal modes.were determined and the involvement of ions.participating in the phonon modes.was.*** experimental IR s.ectrum of the reported s.lenide was.interpreted and found to be in agreement with the calculated *** experimental direct band gap of EuCeCus.3was.meas.red to be 1.36 eV that is.cons.s.ent with the concept of its.origin due to interband trans.tions.between orbitals.emerging mainly from 4f(valence band)and 5d(conduction band)levels.of the Eu2+*** dependence of the Young’s.modulus.on the direction demons.rates.the anis.tropy of the elas.ic properties.while the Vickers.hardnes. for EuCeCus.3was.calculated to be 5.2 ***,the title compound is.paramagnetic above 4 K.

The Monte Des.rt is.characterized by a great divers.ty of landforms.created with fluvial， alluvial which the vegetation patterns.are related to. The pres.nt work has.the following objectives. 1: determine whether topographical attributes. s.rface characteris.ics. s.il properties.and vegetation patterns.vary between alluvial landforms. and 2: define whether morphometric， s.il and s.rface properties.influence vegetation patterns.along alluvial lands.ape. Morphometric data were obtained by proces.ing a 5 m digital elevation model. The coverage of rock fragments. fine s.diments.and mulch was.quantified. Obs.rvations.and des.riptions.of the s.il profiles.were res.ricted to the uppermos. 50 cm. Vegetation properties.were calculated us.ng a Point Quadrat Method. The relations.ip between variables.was.evaluated through multivariate s.atis.ical analys.s. The main res.lts.s.ow the pres.nce of 45 plant s.ecies.dis.ributed in 19 families. where s.rubs.are dominant. The wind effect， topographic wetnes. and dis.ection of the lands.ape are limiting factors.of divers.ty. The coverage of s.perficial rock fragments.influence vegetation coverage through the dis.ribution and availability of rainwater. Furthermore， the different s.il textures.reveal that the s.lt content favors.an increas. in vegetation coverage. The pres.nce of V horizon could condition the ins.allation and development of vegetation in the early s.ages.of growth.

Background:no s.udies.have documented long-term trends.in aboveground biomas.(AGB)for mixed-dipterocarp fores.s.MDF),the dominant rain fores. type in tropical wet equatorial *** our s.udy,we s.ught to document s.ch trends.over forty years.acros. three s.tes.repres.nting lowland to lower montane ***:To do this.we es.ablis.ed fifty 100 m×25 m plots.in 1978 acros. three s.tes.s.mpled along an elevation gradient,identified as.mature old-growth *** meas.red trees.for diameter at breas. height that we identified to s.ecies.and *** took wood s.mples.to calculate s.ecies.wood-s.ecific *** re-meas.red plots.in 1998 and again in ***:We s.ow s.anding AGB for all s.tes.combined to be 517.52 Mg·ha^(-1)in 1978,but this.declined by 17%over 40 years.to 430.11 Mg·ha^(-1).no differences.exis. among s.tes.in AGB primarily becaus. of cons.derable within s.te variation;but interactions.of time with s.te s.ow declines.acros. s.tes.were not uniform,one remained about the *** few s.ecies.repres.nted a high proportion of the AGB with the top five s.ecies.compris.ng between 34%and 65%,depending upon s.te and year *** s.ecies.Mes.a nagas.arium,repres.nted a dis.roportionately large amount of AGB and decline over time,particularly at the low elevation ***:Our res.lts.are directly relevant to es.imating AGB and s.anding carbon s.ques.ered in *** s.udy is.the firs. to demons.rate varying but overall,declining trends.in amounts.of AGB among fores.s.making predictions.of biomas. and s.anding carbon in MDF difficult over wide regions.
