In some netw.rks nodes belong to predefined groups （e.g., authors belong to institutions）. Common netw.rk cen- trality measures do not take this structure into account. Gefura measures are designed as indicators of a node＇s brokerage role betw.en such groups. They are defined as variants of betw.euness centrality and consider to w.at extent a node belongs to shortest paths betw.en nodes from different groups. In this article w. make the follow.ng new.contributions to their study：（1） w. systematically study unnormalized gefura measures and show.that, next to the ＇structural＇ normalization that has hitherto been applied, a ＇basic＇ normalization procedure is possible. w.ile the former normalizes at the level of groups, the latter normalizes at the level of nodes. （2） Treating undirected netw.rks as equivalent to symmetric directed netw.rks, w. expand the definition of gefura measures to the directed case. （3） It is show. how.Brandes＇ algorithm for betw.enness centrality can be adjusted to cover these cases.

Purpose： In this contribution w. continue our investigations related to the activity index （A/） and its formal analogs. w. try to replace the AI by an indicator w.ich is better suited for policy applications. Design/methodology/approach： w. point out that fluctuations in the value of the AI for a given country and domain are never the result of that country＇s policy w.th respect to that domain alone because there are exogenous factors at play. For this reason w. introduce the F-measure. This F-measure is nothing but the harmonic mean of the country＇s share in the w.rld＇s publication output in the given domain and the given domain＇s share in the country＇s publication ***： The F-measure does not suffer from the problems the AI does Research limitations： The indicator is not yet fully tested in real cases R＆D policy management： In policy considerations, the AI should better be replaced by the F-measure as this measure can better show.the results of science policy measures （w.ich the AI cannot as it depends on exogenous factors）. Originality/value： w. provide an original solution for a problem that is not fully realized by policy makers.

Using data by cited-reference searching for Thomson Scientific＇s w.S, w. predict 2007 impact factors （1Fs） for several journals, such as Nature, Science, Learned Publishing and some Library and Information Sciences journals. Based on our colleagues＇ experiences w. expect our predictions to be low.r bounds for the official journal impact factors. w. explain w.y it is useful to derive one＇s ow. journal impact factor.

Bilateral Co-authorship Indicators Based on Fractional Counting

Purpose: In this contribution w. provide tw. new.co-authorship indicators based on fractional counting. Design/methodology/approach: Based on the idea of fractional counting w. reflect on w.at should be an acceptable indicator for co-authorship betw.en tw. entities. From this reflection w. propose an indicator, the co-authorship score, denoted as cs, using the harmonic mean. Dividing this new.indicator by the classical co-authorship indicator based on full counting, leads to a co-authorship intensity ***: w. show.that the indicators w. propose have many necessary or at least highly desirable properties for a proper cs-score. It is pointed out that the tw. new.indicators can be used for countries, but also for institutions and other pairs of entities. A small example show. the feasibility of the co-authorship score and the co-authorship intensity *** limitations: The indicators are not yet tested in real *** implications: As the notions of co-authorship and collaboration have many aspects, w. think that our contribution may help policy management to take yet another aspect into account as part of a multi-faceted description of research ***/value: The indicators w. propose cover yet another aspect of co-authorship.

The term influmetrics is proposed as a better term for altmetrics. The importance of considering research products and not just scientific publications is highlighted.
