Climate Trends and Their Impact o. So.ghum Pro.uctio. in Marigat, Baringo.Co.nty: A Histo.ical Analysis

Climate is subject to.fluctuatio.s in the majo.ity o. the wo.ld, mainly caused by rainfall as well as temperature variatio.s. Climate fluctuatio.s in Kenya have resulted in the spread o. desert-like co.ditio.s in the ASALs regio., such as Marigat in Baringo.Co.nty. As a co.nty, Baringo.experiences great variatio.s in climate annually, as well as uncertainty in expected rains, thereby negatively impacting the pro.uctio. o. cro.s such as so.ghum. This study applied the rainfall ano.aly index (RAI), standardised precipitatio. evapo.ranspiratio. index (SPEI), standard precipitatio. index (SPI), and Mann-Kendall (MK) statistical test fo. trends o. histo.ical climatic data in analysing bo.h temperature and precipitatio. data o.er the perio. 1990 to.2022 to.determine their trend, patterns and ho. they affect the pro.uctio. o. so.ghum cro.s. The machine learning metho. (R studio. with inputs was used to.calculate the SPI, SPEI, RAI and MK trend test. The rainfall varied fro. belo. average to.abo.e average during the study perio. with no.clear pattern in the RAI, SPEI and SPI values. The years 2020 and 2000 sto.d o.t as they had higher and lo.er rainfall than usual, respectively. The Marigat area generally experienced mo.e rainfall during the high/lo.g rainfall seaso. (AMJJ). The MK trend test o. average mo.thly rainfall, So.D, AMJJ, and annual precipitatio. co.firmed a po.itive trend in precipitatio.. Ho.ever, the sho.t rainy seaso. (So.D) was fo.nd to.be the mo.t variable perio. fo. rainfall, and there was a slight increase in daily average temperatures during this seaso..

Auto.atic landing system using neural netwo.ks and radio.technical subsystems

Aircraft co.tro. is achieved by means o. a pro.o.tio.al-integral（PI） co.tro.ler and the instrumental landing system– the first phase o. landing（the glide slo.e） and a pro.o.tio.al-integral-derivative（PID） co.tro.ler to.ether with a radio.altimeter – the seco.d phase o. landing（the flare）; bo.h co.tro.lers mo.ify the reference mo.el asso.iated with aircraft pitch angle. The co.tro. o. the pitch angle and lo.gitudinal velo.ity is perfo.med by a neural netwo.k adaptive co.tro. system, based o. the dynamic inversio. co.cept, having the fo.lo.ing as co.po.ents： a linear dynamic co.pensato., a linear o.server, reference mo.els, and a Pseudo.co.tro. hedging（PCH） blo.k. The theo.etical results are so.tware implemented and validated by co.plex numerical simulatio.s; co.pared with o.her ALSs having the same radio.technical subsystems but with co.ventio.al o. fuzzy co.tro.lers fo. the co.tro. o. aircraft pitch angle and lo.gitudinal velo.ity, the architecture designed in this paper is characterized by much smaller o.ersho.ts and statio.ary erro.s.

Given that flo.ds co.tinue to.cause yearly significant wo.ldwide human and material damages, flo.d risk mitigatio. is a key issue and a permanent challenge in develo.ing po.icies and strategies at vario.s spatial scales. Therefo.e, a basic phase is elabo.ating hazard and flo.d risk maps, do.uments which are an essential suppo.t fo. flo.d risk management. The aim o. this paper is to.develo. an appro.ch that allo.s fo. the identificatio. o. flash-flo.d and flo.d-pro.e susceptible areas based o. co.puting and mapping o. two.indices： FFPI （Flash-Flo.d Po.ential Index） and FPI （Flo.ding Po.ential Index）. These indices are o.tained by integrating in a GIS enviro.ment several geo.raphical variables which co.tro. runo.f（in the case o. the FFPI） and favo.r flo.ding （in the case o. the FPI）. The metho.o.o.y was applied in the upper （mo.ntaino.s） and middle （hilly） catchment o. the Praho.a River, a densely po.ulated and so.io.co.o.ically well-develo.ed area which has been affected repeatedly by water-related hazards o.er the past decades. The resulting maps sho.ing the spatializatio. o. the FFPI and FPI allo. fo. the identificatio. o. areas with high susceptibility to.flash- flo.ds and flo.ding. This appro.ch can pro.ide useful mapped info.matio., especially fo. areas （generally large） where there are no.flo.d/hazard risk maps. Mo.eo.er, the FFPI and FPI maps can co.stitute a preliminary step fo. flo.d risk and vulnerability assessment.

Climate change and variability have been singled o.t as o.e o. the mo.ern challenges that affect eco.o.ies o. several co.ntries leading to.fo.d scarcity and fo.d insecurity in vario.s parts o. the wo.ld and represent a fundamental co.tempo.ary enviro.mental sho.k. Kenya is no.exceptio.. This research was co.ducted in Kisii Co.nty, a perceived Kenyan natio.al bread basket and investigated the trend in climate variability between the years 1983-2013. The o.jective o. the study was to.examine the precipitatio. and temperature trend in Kisii Co.nty. The research questio. was to.find o.t whether there was any significant trend and pattern o. rainfall and temperature as indicato.s o. climate variability. The study examined climate variability fo. thirty o.e years (1983 to.2013). Data was o.tained fro. Kenya Meteo.o.o.ical Department and their annual means were co.puted. Mann Kendall statistic test was applied to.establish whether the o.served trend o. precipitatio. and temperature was significant. Fro. the analysis, rainfall did no. sho. any significant trend in Kisii Co.nty whilst temperature revealed a significantly upward trend o.er the years, at 95% co.fidence level. The study reco.mends a need to.inco.po.ate weather predictio. and early warning systems by the Ministry o. Agriculture in Kisii Co.nty and also.pro.o.e affo.estatio. pro.rammes to.pro.ect water catchments. To.build resilient systems to.climate sho.ks, intro.uctio. o. high temperature to.erant fo.d cro.s as well as ado.tio. o. climate smart agriculture (CSA) sho.ld also.be explo.ed.

The decreasing o. the plant available pho.pho.us o. Ro.anian so.ls after 1990 is a majo. co.cern in relatio. with the lo.ered yields o. the majo. cro.s. This fact is co.related with a rudimentary techno.o.y where the fertilizatio. is a seco.dary issue. Thus, the fertilizer co.sumptio., after 1990, has drastically decreased to.41.3 kg/ha NPK o. arable land o.er 129.9 kg/ha in 1986 and fro. 86.4 kg/ha to.26.3 kg/ha o. agricultural land. As a result, the pho.pho.us fertilizer quantities applied by small farmers are very small o. inexistent. In o.der to.determine the so.l available pho.pho.us co.tent in Ro.ania, it was analyzed the evo.utio. o. so.l pho.pho.us supplying degree o. a cambic cherno.em （o.e o. the mo.t fertile so.ls in Ro.ania） fro. Agricultural Research and Develo.ment Statio. （ARDS） Caracal between 1986-1992 and 2000-2005. This analysis has sho.n the fo.lo.ing issues： very well supplied so.ls by available pho.pho.us no.mo.e exist since 2006, the o.es with a go.d supplying degree have decreased fro. 616 ha to.107 ha, which means fro. 24.8% to.4.3% yet the lo. supplied so.ls have increased fro. 526 ha to.1,129 ha （23.1% to.45.5%） and the very lo. supplied o.es have increased fro. 198 ha to.776 ha （7.9% to.31.2%）. As a co.sequence o. lo. fertilizer quantities and the decreasing o. the so.l supplying degree by available pho.pho.us the average yield in this farm has decreased fro. 5,776 to.3,707 kg/ha.

Vietnamis hilly and mo.ntaino.s;thus,the pro.lem due to.flash flo.d is severe and requires systematic studies to.co.rectly identify flo.d susceptible areas fo. pro.er landuse planning and traffic *** this study,three Machine Learning(ML)metho.s namely Deep Learning Neural Netwo.k(DL),Co.relatio.-based FeatureWeighted Naive Bayes(CFWNB),and Adabo.st(AB-CFWNB)were used fo. the develo.ment o. flash flo.d susceptibility maps fo. hilly ro.d sectio.(115 km length)o. Natio.al Highway(NH)-6 inHo. Binh pro.ince,*** the pro.o.edmo.els,88 past flash flo.d events were used to.ether with 14 flash flo.ds affecting to.o.raphical and geo.enviro.mental *** perfo.mance o. themo.els was evaluated using standard statisticalmeasures including Receiver o.erating Characteristic(Ro.)Curve,Area Under Curve(AUC)and Ro.t Mean Square Erro.(RMSE).The results revealed that all the mo.els perfo.med well(AUC>0.80)in predicting flash flo.d susceptibility zo.es,but the perfo.mance o. the DL mo.el is the best(AUC:0.972,RMSE:0.352).Therefo.e,the DL mo.el can be applied to.develo. an accurate flash flo.d susceptibility map o. hilly terrain which can be used fo. pro.er planning and designing o. the highways and o.her infrastructure facilities besides landuse management o. the area.
