Use of geochemical fingerprints to trace sediment sources in an agricultural catchment of Argentina

Soil erosion and associated sediment redistribution are key environmental problems in Central *** land uses and management practices,such as intensive grazing and crop cultivation,are considered to be significantly driving and accelerating these *** research focuses on the identification of suitable soil tracers from hot spots of land degradation and sediment fate in an agricultural catchment of central Argentina with erodible loess *** Energy Dispersive X-Ray Fluorescence(EDXRF),elemental concentrations were determined and later used as soil tracers for geochemical *** best set of tracers were identified using two artificial mixtures composed of known proportions of soil sources collected from different lands having contrasting soil ***,calcium,iron,phosphorus,and titanium were identified for obtaining the best suitable reconstruction of source proportions in the laboratory-prepared artificial ***,these elements,as well as the total organic carbon,were applied for pinpointing critical hot spots of erosion within the studied *** were identified to be the main source of sediments,river banks and dirt roads together are the second most important *** investigation provides key information for optimizing soil conservation strategies and selecting land management practices and land uses which do not generate great contribution of sediment,preventing pollution of the waterways of the region.

Obstructive jaundice occurs in patients suffering from cholelithiasis and from neoplasms affecting the pancreas and the common bile *** absorption,distribution and elimination of drugs are impaired during this *** cholestasis may alter both liver and kidney *** antibiotics,diuretics,non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs,several antiviral drugs as well as endogenous compounds are classified as organic *** hepatic and renal organic anion transport pathways play a key role in the pharmacokinetics of these *** has been demonstrated that acute extrahepatic cholestasis is associated with increased renal elimination of organic *** present work describes the molecular mechanisms involved in the regulation of the expression and function of the renal and hepatic organic anion transporters in extrahepatic cholestasis,such as multidrug resistanceassociated protein 2,organic anion transporting polypeptide 1,organic anion transporter 3,bilitranslocase,bromosulfophthalein/bilirubin binding protein,organic anion transporter 1 and sodium dependent bile salt *** modulation in the expression of renal organic anion transporters constitutes a compensatory mechanism to overcome the hepatic dysfunction in the elimination of organic anions.

The reuse of agricultural waste is essential to mitigate environmental pollution ***,this work focused on the valorization of the most extensive olive processing residue,alperujo,in terms of its ability to interfere with the virulence processes of Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus contaminating food and reference *** activity of alperujo extracts of different polarities on virulence factors producing bacteria,and its relationship with antioxidant capacity and polyphenolic content was comparatively *** results indicated that the polar extracts significantly reduced the biofilm formed by both *** were also able to act against a previously formed biofilm by reducing its biomass and the cells’*** extracts,rich in polyphenolic compounds,exhibited antioxidant capacity and Quorum sensing(QS)inhibitory activity against Chromobacterium ***,they limited the spread of *** by restricting swarming and swimming *** also interfere in other QS controlled phenotypes like elastase and *** antipathogenic ability of the polar extracts could be mainly due to the synergistic effect of several phenolic compounds identified by LC-MS/MS analysis,such as luteolin,vanillic acid hexoside,oleuropein and derivates,quinic acid,apigenin,among *** a result,this study contributes to the developing of sustainable strategies to revalorize a polluting waste into a value-added byproduct that could be used in the food and sanitary industries.
