‘Jelly to Joule’:Direct laser writing of sustainable jellyfish-based ‘graphenic silicon’ anodes for environmentally remediating high-performance lithium-ion batteries

The ramifications of global climate change and resource scarcities have made it imperative to re-examine the definition of sustainable energy-storage *** is crucial to recognize that not all renewable resources are inherently sustainable,and their full impact on the environment must be *** the proliferation of invasive jellyfish species wreaking havoc on marine ecosystems and economies worldwide,utilizing overabundant jellyfish as a carbon source presents an opportunity to create energy-storage systems that are both financially beneficial and environmentally ***,a comprehensive approach to sustainability also requires eco-friendly solutions throughout the entire lifecycle,from material sourcing to battery production,without compromising highperformance ***,most electrode syntheses for lithium-ion batteries(LIBs) employed are energy-intensive,multiple-steps,complex,and *** response,this work pioneers the straightforward use of low-energy laser irradiation of a jellyfish biomass/silicon nanoparticle blend to encapsulate the silicon nanoparticles in-situ within the as-forming conductive carbonized matrix,creating sustainable and additive-free composite *** self-standing anode is directly synthesized under ambient conditions and requires no ***,a laser-synthesized conductive threedimensional porous carbon/silicon composite anode from raw jellyfish biomass for LIBs is presented,displaying outstanding cyclic stability(>1000 cycles),excellent capacity retention(>50% retention after1000 cycles),exceptional coulombic efficiency(>99%),superb reversible gravimetric capacity(>2000 mAh/g),and high rate performance capability(>1.6 A/g),paving a new path to future sustainable energy production.

Differential changes in intrinsic innervation and interstitial cells of Cajal in small bowel atresia in newborns

AIM: To investigate morphological changes of the enteric nervous system (ENS) and the interstitial cells of Cajal (ICCs) in small bowel ***: Resected small bowel specimens from affected patients (n = 7) were divided into three parts (proximal, atretic, distal). Standard histology and enzyme immunohistochemistry anti-S100, anti-protein gene product (PGP) 9.5, anti-neurofilament (NF), antic-kit-receptor (CD117) was carried out on conventional paraffin sections of the proximal and distal part. RESULTS: The neuronal and glial markers (PGP 9.5, NF, S-100) were expressed in hypertrophied ganglia and nerve fibres within the myenteric and submucosal plexuses. Furthermore, the submucous plexus contained typical giant ganglia. The innervation pattern of the proximal bowel resembled intestinal neuronal dysplasia. The density of myenteric ICCs was clearly reduced in the proximal bowel, whereas a moderate number of muscular ICCs were found. The anti-CD117 immunore- action revealed additional numerous mast cells. The distal bowel demonstrated normal morphology and density of the ENS, the ICCs and the mast ***: The proximal and distal bowel in small bowel atresia revealed clear changes in morphology and density of the ENS and ICCs.

Transcription networks in liver development and acute liver failure

Acute liver failure(ALF)is a medical emergency due to massive hepatocyte *** such a harsh condition,maintaining transcriptional regulation in the remaining hepatocytes while activating similar transcription factor networks in liver progenitor cells(LPCs)to ensure essential liver functions are two critical processes to rescue patients from liver failure and *** this review,we discuss the formation and functions of transcription networks in ALF and liver *** focus on a hierarchical network of transcription factors that responds to different pathophysiological circumstances:(1)Under normal circumstances,pioneer factor forkhead box protein A2(FOXA2)coordinates several constitutive hepatic transcription factors,such as hepatic nuclear factor 4 alpha(HNF4a)and CCAAT-enhancer binding protein a(C/EBPa),which ensure normal liver function;(2)When the expression of both HNF4a and C/EBPa in hepatocytes are disrupted by severe inflammation,retinoic acid receptor(RAR)is the alternative transcription factor that compensates for their absence;(3)When massive hepatic necrosis occurs,a similar transcription network including FOXA2 and HNF4a,is activated as a“rescue network”in LPCs to maintain vital liver functions when hepatocytes fail,and thus ensures *** of these master transcription factors in hepatocytes and LPCs is tightly regulated by hormone signals and *** performance of this hierarchical transcription network,in particularly the“rescue network”described above,significantly affects the clinical outcome of ALF.

Induced Subgraphs with Large Degrees at End-vertices for Hamiltonicity of Claw-free Graphs

A graph is called claw-free if it contains no induced subgrapn lsomorpmc to K1,3. Matthews and Sumner proved that a 2-connected claw-free graph G is Hamiltonian if every vertex of it has degree at least （[V（G）I - 2）/3. At the workshop CSzC （Novy Smokovec, 1993）, Broersma conjectured the degree condition of this result can be restricted only to end-vertices of induced copies of N （the graph obtained from a triangle by adding three disjoint pendant edges）. Fujisawa and Yamashita showed that the degree condition of Matthews and Sumner can be restricted only to end-vertices of induced copies of Z1 （the graph obtained from a triangle by adding one pendant edge）. Our main result in this paper is a characterization of all graphs H such that a 2-connected claw-free graph G is Hamiltonian if eachend-vertex of every induced copy of H in G has degree at least IV（G）I/3 ＋ 1. This gives an affirmative solution of the conjecture of Broersma up to an additive ***-vertex of every induced copy of H in G has degree at least IV（G）I/3 ＋ 1. The Root Cap Determines Ethylene-Dependent Growth and Development in Maize Roots

Besides providing protection against mechanical damage to the root tip, the root cap is involved in the perception and processing of diverse external and internal stimuli resulting in altered growth and development, The transduction of these stimuli includes hormonal signaling pathways such as those of auxin, ethylene and cytokinin. Here, we show that the root cap is essential for the ethylene-induced regulation of elongation growth and root hair formation in maize. Exogenously applied ethylene is no longer able to inhibit elongation growth when the root cap has been surgically removed prior to hormone treatment. Reconstitution of the cap positively correlates with the developing capacity of the roots to respond to ethylene again. In contrast, the removal of the root cap does not per se affect growth inhibition controlled by auxin and cytokinin. Furthermore, our semi-quantitative RT-PCR results support earlier findings that the maize root cap is a site of high gene expression activity with respect to sensing and responding to hormones such as ethylene, From these data, we propose a novel function of the root cap which is the establishment of competence to respond to ethylene in the distal zones of the root.

Attosecond twisted beams from high-order harmonicgeneration driven by optical vortices

Optical vortices are structures of the electromagnetic field with a spiral phase ramp about a point-phase singularity,carrying orbital angular momentum(OAM). Recently, OAM has been imprinted to short-wavelength radiation through high-order harmonic generation(HHG), leading to the emission of attosecond twisted beams in the extreme-ultraviolet(XUV) regime. We explore the details of the mapping of the driving vortex to its harmonic spectrum. In particular, we show that the geometry of the harmonic vortices is convoluted, arising from the superposition of the contribution from the short and long quantum paths responsible of HHG. Finally, we show how to take advantage of transverse phase-matching to select twisted attosecond beams with different spatiotemporal properties.

Internal motion of the complex oscillators near main resonance

An analytical study of the two degrees of freedom nonlinear dynamical system is presented. The internal motion of the system is separated and described by one fourth order differential equation. An approximate approach allows reducing the problem to the Duffing equation with adequate initial conditions. A novel idea for an effective study of nonlinear dynamical systems consisting in a concept of the socalled limiting phase trajectories is applied. Both qualitative and quantitative complex analyses have been performed. Important nonlinear dynamical transition type phenomena are detected are investigated analytically.
