This paper introduces a caching technique based on a volumetric representation that captures low-frequency indirect *** structure is intended for efficient storage and manipulation of *** is based on a 3D grid that stores a fixed set of irradiance *** preprocessing,this representation can be built using almost any existing global illumination *** rendering,the indirect illumination within a voxel is interpolated from its associated irradiance vectors,and is used as additional local light *** with other techniques,the 3D vector-based representation of our technique offers increased robustness against local geometric variations of a *** thus demonstrate that it may be employed as an efficient and high-quality caching data structure for bidirectional rendering techniques such as particle tracing or photon mapping.

Information on forest structure is fundamentally important to track successional vegetation dynamics for efficient forest *** study reports on vegetation characteristics,dominance patterns and species height growth in a northern mistbelt forest type in South *** alpha-diversity indices(species richness and Shannon-Weiner diversity),structural vegetation parameters(tree density and basal area),and species importance value index were *** class distribution and height-diameter allometry were further examined for the overall stand and most important *** densities(472.0±43.5 and 605.3±28.1 trees ha^-1 for C 5 cm to\10 cm and C 10 cm dbh(diameter at breast height)classes,respectively)and basal area values(1.99±0.19 and 48.07±3.46 m^2 ha^-1,respectively)are comparable to other Afromontane forests in East *** overall stand showed an inverted-j shaped distribution pattern which is a typical feature of stand size class distribution in most natural *** ecologically important species also exhibited an inverted-j shaped distribution pattern,suggesting good regeneration and recruitment *** were significant differences in species on height,reflecting species-specific height growth patterns,possibly a result of intrinsic growth potential and competitive *** present study suggests that conservation and management policies,including protection of surrounding land uses against fire,contribute to maintaining a successful recovery of these ***,it should be noted that these forests may be experiencing relatively slow dynamic flux as a result of the overmature state of some trees with several years under relatively strict protection.

Oral estrogens are directly associated with changes in plasma levels of coagulation proteins. Thus, the detection of any variation in protein concentrations due to estrogen contraceptives, by a simultaneous analysis of both coagulation proteins and estrogens, would be a very informative tool. In the present study, the merit of photo-selected reaction monitoring （SRM）, a new analytical tool, was evaluated towards estrogens detection in plasma. Then, SRM and photo-SRM detection modes were combined for the simultaneous analysis of estrogen molecules together with heparin co-factor and factor XIIa, two proteins involved in the coagulation cascade. This study shows that photo-SRM could open new multiplexed analytical routes.

Deciphering how T-cell antigen receptor signals are modulated by coinhibitors is a fundamental goal in immunology and of considerable clinical interest because blocking coinhibitory signals via therapeutic antibodies have become a standard cancer immunotherapeutic *** of the attention devoted to T-cell immunoglobulin and mucin domain-3(TIM3;also known as HAVCR2 or CD366)molecules stems from their expression on exhausted T cells in settings of chronic viral infection and ***,T cells expressing high levels of both PD-1 and TIM3 coinhibitors appear more dysfunctional than those expressing PD-1 *** therapies intending to block both PD-1 and TIM3 are thus actively being explored in the cancer treatment *** interaction with Galectin-9(GAL-9)and carcinoembryonic antigen-related cell adhesion molecule 1(CEACAM-1),the tyrosines found in the TIM3 cytoplasmic tail are phosphorylated.1 Because these conserved tyrosines do not form a recognizable inhibitory signaling motif,the mechanism by which TIM3 transmits inhibitory signals has not been ***,TIM3 also has costimulatory activity in T cells.2,3 Published biochemical studies attempting to unveil the mode of action of TIM3 have relied on approaches addressing one candidate effector at a time with limited quantitative insight,and most used transformed *** mice expressing an affinity Twin-Strep-tag(OST)at the TIM3-protein C-terminus(TIM3OST mice)(Figs.1a and S1a)and affinity purification coupled with mass spectrometry(AP-MS),we herein defined the composition and dynamics of the signaling protein complex(signalosome)used by TIM3 in primary effector T *** results provide a more complete model of TIM3 signaling and explain its paradoxical coinhibitory and costimulatory functions.

Climate change is generating range shifts in many organisms,notably along the elevational gradient in mountainous ***,moving up in elevation exposes organisms to lower oxygen availability,which may reduce the successful reproduction and development of oviparous *** test this possibility in an upwardcolonizing species,we artificially incubated developing embryos of the viperine snake(Natrix maura)using a split-clutch design,in conditions of extreme high elevation(hypoxia at 2877 m above sea level;72%sea-level equivalent O2 availability)or low elevation(control group;*** at 436 m above sea level).Hatching success did not differ between the two *** developing at extreme high elevation had higher heart rates and hatched earlier,resulting in hatchlings that were smaller in body size and slower swimmers compared to their siblings incubated at lower ***,post-hatching reciprocal transplant of juveniles showed that snakes which developed at extreme high elevation,when transferred back to low elevation,did not recover full performance compared to their siblings from the low elevation incubation *** results suggest that incubation at extreme high elevation,including the effects of hypoxia,will not prevent oviparous ectotherms from producing viable young,but may pose significant physiological challenges on developing offspring in *** early-life performance limitations imposed by extreme high elevation could have negative consequences on adult phenotypes,including on fitness-related traits.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to examine whether the efficacy of transtheoretical model(TTM)-based interventions on physical activity(PA)varied according to the following criteria:(1) interventions targeted the actual stages of change(SOCs) or did not;(2) participants were selected according to their SOC or were not; and(3) its theoretical constructs(decisional balance, temptation, self-efficacy, processes of change).Methods: Thirty-three randomized controlled trials assessing TTM-based interventions promoting PA in adults were systematically ***: The between-group heterogeneity statistic(Qb) did not reveal any differential efficacy either in interventions targeting the actual SOC compared with those that did not(Qb = 1.48, p = 0.22) or in interventions selecting participants according to their SOC compared with those that did not(Qb = 0.01, p = 0.91). TTM-based interventions enhanced PA behavior whether they targeted the actual SOC(Cohen's d = 0.36; 95%confidence interval(CI): 0.22–0.49) or not(d = 0.23; 95%CI: 0.09–0.38) and whether they selected their participants according to their SOC(d = 0.33; 95%CI: 0.13–0.53) or not(d = 0.32; 95%CI: 0.19–0.44). The moderators of the efficacy of TTM-based interventions were the number of theoretical constructs used to tailor the intervention(Qb = 8.82, p = 0.003), the use of self-efficacy(Qb = 6.09, p = 0.01), and the processes of change(Qb = 3.51, p = 0.06).Conclusion: TTM-based interventions significantly improved PA behavior, and their efficacy was not moderated by SOC but by the TTM theoretical constructs.

Semen from 10 932 male partners of infertile couples was analysed and sperm parameter trends were evaluated at the Reproduction Biology Laboratory of the University Hospital of Marseille （France） between 1988 and 2007. After 3-6 days of abstinence, semen samples were collected. Measurements of seminal fluid volume, pH, sperm concentration, total sperm count, motility and detailed morphology of spermatozoa were performed. Sperm parameters were analysed on the entire population and in men with normal total numeration （〉~ 40 million per ejaculate）. The whole population demonstrated declining trends in sperm concentration （1.5% per year）, total sperm count （1.6% per year）, total motility （0.4% per year）, rapid motility （5.5% per year） and normal morphology （2.2% per year）. In the group of selected samples with total normal sperm count, the same trends of sperm quality deterioration with time were observed. Our results clearly indicate that the auality of semen decreased in this population over the study period.

Differential quadrature phase shift keying （DQPSK） modulation is attractive in high-speed optical communications because of its resistance to fiber non-linearities and more efficient use of fiber bandwidth compared to conventional intensity modulation schemes. Because of its wavelength conversion ability and phase preservation, semiconductor optical amplifier （SOA） four- wave mixing （FWM） has attracted much attention. We experimentally study wavelength conversion of 40 Gbit/s （20 Gbaud） non-return-to-zero （NRZ）-DQPSK data using FWM in a quantum dash SOA with 20 dB gain and 5 dBm output saturation power. Q factor improvement and eye diagram reshaping is shown for up to 3 nm pump-probe detuning and is superior to that reported for a higher gain bulk SOA.
