the steady Eikonal equation is a prototypical first-order fully nonlinear equation. A numerical method based on elliptic solvers is presented here to solve two different kinds of steady Eikonal equations and compute solutions, which are maximal and minimal in the variational sense. the approach in this paper relies on a variational argument involving penalty, a biharmonic regularization, and an operator-splitting-based time-discretization scheme for the solution of an associated initial-value problem. this approach allows the decoupling of the nonlinearities and differential *** experiments are performed to validate this approach and investigate its convergence properties from a numerical viewpoint.

Appreciation of soft-tissue thickness(Stt)at surgical sites is an increasingly recognized aspect of arthroplasty procedures as it may potentially impacting postoperative *** research has focused on the predictive value of preoperative Stt measurements for complications following various forms of arthroplasty,particularly infections,across procedures such as total knee,hip,shoulder,and ankle *** studies have indicated that increased Stt is associated with a higher risk of complications,including infection and wound healing *** assessment of Stt before surgery could play a crucial role in identifying patients at a higher risk of complications and may be instru-mental in guiding preoperative planning to optimize outcomes in arthroplasty *** measurement techniques and further research are essential to enhance the reliability and clinical utility of Stt assessment for arthro-plasty surgery.

BACKGROUND the Joint Advisory Group on Gastrointestinal Endoscopy basic skills in colonoscopy(BSC) course was introduced in 2009 to improve colonoscopy training within the United Kingdom, but its impact on trainee performance is *** to assess whether attendance of the BSC could improve colonoscopy *** trainees awarded colonoscopy certification between 2011-2016 were stratified into 3 groups according to pre-course procedure count( 140).Study outcomes, comprising the unassisted caecal intubation rate(CIR) and the performance indicator of colonic intubation(PICI), were studied over the 50 procedures pre and post-course. Interrupted time series analyses were performed to detect step-change changes attributable to the *** A total of 369 trainees with pre-course procedure counts of 140(n = 130) were included. Over the 50 pre-course procedures,significant linear improvements in CIR were found, with average increases of 4.2,3.6 and 1.7 percentage points(pp) per 10 procedures performed in the 140 groups respectively(all P the t step-change improvement in CIR, increasing from 46% in the last pre-course procedure, to 51% in the first procedure post-course(P = 0.005). the CIR step-change was not significant in the 70-140(68% to 71%;P = 0.239) or > 140(86% to 87%;P = 0.354) groups. For PICI, significant step-change improvements were seen in all three groups, with average increases of 5.6 pp(P ttendance of the BSC was associated with a significant step-change improvement in PICI, regardless of prior procedural experience. However, CIR data suggest that the optimal timing of course attendance appears to be at earlier stages of training(< 70 procedures).

the aim of this work was to validate a wet mixing process, in which a liquid spray is used to impregnate particles during mixing. the experimental results obtained using a bladed-mixer with a near-infrared sensor were compared with the results obtained using a 1 ： 1 discrete element method simulation. the porous particles used in both cases absorbed the sprayed liquid for a process time of about 18 min. Mul- tiple sensors attached to the mixer wall continuously monitored the liquid contents of passing particles. the sensors were modeled in the simulation and the resulting signals were analyzed and compared with the experimental results. We show that the algorithms used for spray and liquid absorption can be used to predict the moisture distribution inside granular materials in chemical and pharmaceutical processes. Such simulations can help to save money, e.g., in resource-intensive experimental plans and equipment design studies, and by varying material parameters.

Analysis of inhibition of concrete steel-rebar corrosion by Na_2Cr_2O_7 concentrations:Implications for conflicting reports on inhibitor effectiveness

Corrosion test data were measured using non-destructive electrochemical techniques and analysed for studying inhibition effectiveness by different concentrations of NazCr207 on the corrosion of concrete steel-rehar in NaC1 and in H2SO4 media. For these, specifications of AStM G16-95 R04 were combined with the normal and the Gumbel probability density functions as model analytical methods for addressing issues of conflicting reports of inhibitor effectiveness that had generated concerns. Results show that reinforced concrete samples admixed with concentrations having 4 g （0.012 7 tool）, 8 g （0.025 4 mol） and 6 g （0.019 l tool） NaaCr207 exhibited, in that order, high inhibition effectiveness, with respective efficiency, r/, of （90.46±1.30）%, （88.41＋2.24）% and （84.87±4.74）%, in the NaC1 medium. these exhibit good agreements within replicates and statistical methods for the samples. Also, optimal inhibition effectiveness model in the H2SO4 medium was exhibited by 8 g （0.025 4 mol） Na2Cr207 concentration having r/=（78.44±1.10）%. these bear implications for addressing conflicting test data in the study of effective inhibitors for mitigating steel-rebar corrosion in aggressive environments.
