Among the geotechnical in situ tests,the dynamic penetration test(DPT)is commonly used around the world.However,DPT remains a rough technique and provides only one failure parameter:blow count or cone resistance.This paper presents an improvement of the dynamic cone penetration test(DCPT)for soil characterisation based on the wave equation theory.Implemented on an instrumented lightweight dynamic penetrometer driving with variable energy,the main process of the test involves the separation and reconstruction of the waves propagating in the rods after each blow and provides a dynamic cone load-penetration(DCLT)curve.An analytical methodology is used to analyse this curve and to estimate additional strength and deformation parameters of the soil:dynamic and pseudo-static cone resistances,deformation modulus and wave velocity.Tests carried out in the laboratory on different specimens(wood,concrete,sand and clay)in an experimental sand pit and in the field demonstrated that the resulting DCLT curve is reproducible,sensitive and reliable to the test conditions(rod length,driving energy,etc.)as well as to the soil properties(nature,density,etc.).Obtained results also showed that the method based on shock polar analysis makes it possible to evaluate mechanical impedance and wave velocity of soils,as demonstrated by the comparisons with cone penetration test(CPT)and shear wave velocity measurements made in the field.This technique improves the method and interpretation of DPT and provides reliable data for shallow foundation design.

This study presents an analytic overview of forty years of study of Western Marxism by Chinese scholars.Organised into four main sections,it begins with an emphasis on the wider institutional context of this Chinese research.Here,I deal with the beginnings of research on Western Marxism in China and outline the two main periods of this research,which turn on the important educational reforms of 2005.The next section focuses on the initial period of research on Western Marxism,from the early 1980s to the education reforms,which may be characterised in terms of the work of“wary onlookers”writing introductions and surveys of Western Marxist scholars.The following section covers the last two decades after the 2005 education reforms.This period is of most interest,so more attention is devoted to developments during this time.It has been a time of increasingly confident participants on the world stage,who focus on core issues,realistic demands,and problem-based research.The final section concerns assessments of the limitations of Western Marxism,which have been identified through the in-depth research of the second period.In conclusion,while Western Marxism may be seen as a legitimate development of Marxism in a capitalist context,it is a tributary from the mainstream.

This study presents an overview of the ideological framework of“Western Marxism.”This framework has a number of components,which are described in terms of a series of reductions,determinations,and the suspicions entertained by Western Marxists.The result was a truncated type of Marxism that cut itself off from the Marxist–Leninist tradition.It did so by reducing Marxism to the works of Marx alone and calling this“historical materialism,”which entailed a rejection of Engels’s significant contributions in history,science,and theory,and thus entailed a rejection of the subsequent developments of Marxism.This Western Marxism has been primarily promoted by“freelance intellectuals”with virtually no connection to Workers’or Communist Parties and was determined by an assumed ideological position before a proletarian revolution,was shaped by Western liberalism and imperialism,and has been constantly tempted into religiously inspired utopian versions of socialism.With deep suspicions of the state and national liberation,of science and technology,and of the importance of productive forces,this Western Marxism was always hoping for the ideal revolution(or even better,a peaceful transition)that would very quickly produce a utopian socialist society organised only by the people and without a state.This ideological framework also entailed a dismissal of the actual experience in developing countries of successful proletarian revolutions and the construction of socialism.

This study examines the proposition that the ideological structure of“Western Marxism”began to unravel after 1989 and the end of the Cold War,and that it is now largely falling apart.The argument proceeds in three steps,the first of which is an overview of Western Marxism’s ideological structure.The second step analyses a number of deeply critical assessments of Western Marxism from within the contexts of the few countries of the world that make up the“West.”The fact that these critical and often polemical studies are appearing indicates the breakdown of Western Marxism’s former hegemony.The third step deals with more constructive material,including the Western“recovery”of Engels,and especially the dialectics of nature,as well as the impact of the major achievements in the theory and practice of Marxism from developing countries,in the context of socialism in power.

Circulating inflammatory factors associated with worse long-term prognosis in colorectal cancer

AIM To investigate association of circulating inflammatory factors at the time of colorectal cancer(CRC) surgery with survival.METHODs Plasma levels from 174 CRC patients(69 females and 105 men), with median age 70 years(range 29-90), localized in the colon(n = 105) or rectum(n = 69), with stage Ⅰ(n = 24), stage Ⅱ(n = 54), stage Ⅲ(n = 67) and stage Ⅳ(n = 29) were measured using commercially available Bio-Plex Pro? Human Chemokine Panel 40-Plex, including 40 different chemokines, cytokines and interleukins. The prognostic association of each inflammatory factor was analysed as CRC-specific and total mortality.REsULTs Out of 174 patients, 66 died during the follow-up, 40 because of CRC specific mortality. High tertile levels of 8 factors were significantly associated with increased CRC-specific mortality, of which CCL1, CCL20, CCL24, CX3CL1, IL-4 and TNF-α remained significant in a multivariate Cox regression analysis. High tertile levels of 14 factors were associated with increased total mortality, of which CCL1, CCL15, CCL20, CX3CL1, CXCL13, IFN-γ, IL-2, IL-4 and IL-10 remained significant after adjustment for clinical covariates. For most of the inflammatory factors the association between higher tertile levels and an increased mortality in general appeared two years after surgery. High tertile levels of TNF-α and CCL24 were exclusively associated with CRC-specific mortality. The distribution of these factors were not associated with TNM stage with exception for CCL20.CONCLUsION High plasma levels of inflammatory factors are associated with increased risk of mortality among CRC patients and could be potential biomarkers for revealing prognosis.

Automated driving systems are often used for lane keeping tasks.By these systems,a local path is planned ahead of the vehicle.However,these paths are often found unnatural by human drivers.In response to this,this paper proposes a linear driver model,which can calculate node points reflective of human driver preferences and based on these node points a human driver preferred motion path can be designed for autonomous driving.The model input is the road curvature,effectively harnessed through a self-developed Euler-curve-based curve fitting algorithm.A comprehensive case study is undertaken to empirically validate the efficacy of the proposed model,demonstrating its capacity to emulate the average behavioral pat-terns observed in human curve path selection.statistical analyses further underscore the model's robustness,affirming the authenticity of the established relationships.This paradigm shift in trajectory planning holds promising implications for the seamless integration of autonomous driving systems with human driving preferences.

Hogbomite,a rare exotic mineral,is found to be associated with the vanadiferous-titaniferous （V-Ti） bearing magnetite bands at Bhakatarhalli,Nuggihaifi greenstone belt,western Dharwar Craton,India.We report on a second occurrence of hogbomite from the Dharwar craton in Karnataka,which is the sixth documented occurrence of this mineral from India.We evaluate the chemical characteristics of hogbomite and associated Fe-Ti-minerals in an attempt to identify its formation as a primary hydrothermal mineral in a metamorphosed magnetite layer.We report here the presence of hogbomite as a complex oxide of Fe,Mg,Al and Ti with accessory of Zn,V and sn.Petrographic studies suggest the （V-Ti） bearing magnetite （Mt） contain spinel,hogbomite,chlorite,martite,ilmenite （Ⅱ） and minor amounts of diaspore.The hogbomite displays euhedral to subhedral textures,and is up to 250 μm along the grain boundaries of magnetite and ilmenite.In the samples studied,hogbomite is prismatic,irregular and elongated in shape.The genesis of hogbomite in veins between magnetite and ilmenite implies its precipitation from fluids without involving complicated reactions.several models were proposed for the formation of hogbomite; however,the subject is still debatable.

The use of low electrically conducting liquids is more and more widespread.This is the case for molten glass,salt or slag processing,ionic liquids used in biotechnology,batteries in energy storage and metallurgy.The present paper deals with the design of a new electromagnetic induction device that can heat and stir low electricallyconducting liquids.It consists of a resistance-capacity-inductance circuit coupled with a low-conducting liquid load.The device is supplied by a unique electric power source delivering a single-phase high frequency electric current.The main working principle of the circuit is based on a double oscillating circuit inductor connected to the solid-state transistor generator.This technique,which yields a set of coupled oscillating circuits,consists of coupling a forced phase and an induced phase,neglecting the influence of the electric parameters of the loading part(i.e.,the low-conductivity liquid).It is shown that such an inductor is capable to provide a two-phase AC traveling magnetic field at high frequency.To better understand the working principle,the present work improves a previous existing simplified theory by taking into account a complex electrical equivalent diagram due to the different mutual couplings between the two inductors and the two corresponding induced current sets.A more detailed theoretical model is provided,and the key and sensitive elements are elaborated.Based on this theory,equipment is designed to provide a stirring effect on sodium chloride-salted water at 40 s/m.It is shown that such a device fed by several hundred kiloHertz electric currents is able to mimic a linear motor.A set of optimized operating parameters are proposed to guide the experiment.A pure electromagnetic numerical model is presented.Numerical modelling of the load is performed in order to assess the efficiency of the stirrer with a salt water load.such a device can generate a significant liquid motion with both controlled flow patterns and adjustable amplitude.Based on the magnetohydrodynamic
