Ferrara ring segm.nts im.lantation for treating keratoconus

AIm. To investigate the efficacy of Ferrara rings (FR) im.lantation in the treatm.nt of ***: It was a retrospective case series descriptive study. The sam.le was com.rised of 50 patients 79 eyes diagnosed with progressive keratoconus. This included 24 (48%) m.les and 26 (52%) fem.les between the age of 13 and 44 years. all participants underwent surgical im.lantation of FR in the period between January 2009 and Septem.er 2010 at Jordan University Hospital. Thorough ophthalm.logic exam.nations were applied to m.asure vital variables for each pathological condition before and after surgery. RESULTS: Findings indicated an overall significant postoperative im.rovem.nt in both uncorrected visual acuity (UCVA) and best spectacle corrected visual acuity (BSCVA) throughout follow up visits. m.reover, results illustrated a significant decrease in spherical equivalent (SE) and keratom.tric readings (lower, higher and the average). CONCLUSION: Surgical intervention strategies are being frequently developed to m.et the needs of patients with keratoconus. The im.lantation of Ferrara rings has proven to be a safe and feasible alternative procedure for the treatm.nt of m.ld-m.derate keratoconus especially for patients with contact lenses intolerance. We have found that this procedure has im.roved visual outcom.s in all eyes studied. Nevertheless, further research is needed to investigate long term.outcom.s.

Spinal cord injury rem.ins a m.jor cause of disability in young adults,and beyond acute decom.ression and rehabilitation,there are no pharm.cological treatm.nts to lim.t the progression of injury and optim.ze recovery in this *** the thorough investigation of the com.lem.nt system.in triggering and propagating cerebral neuroinflam.ation,a sim.lar role for com.lem.nt in spinal neuroinflam.ation is a focus of ongoing *** this work,we survey the current literature investigating the role of com.lem.nt in spinal cord injury including the sources of com.lem.nt proteins,triggers of com.lem.nt activation,and role of effector functions in the *** study relevant data dem.nstrating the different triggers of com.lem.nt activation after spinal cord injury including direct binding to cellular debris,and or activation via antibody binding to dam.ge-associated m.lecular *** effector functions of com.lem.nt have been im.licated in spinal cord injury,and we critically evaluate recent studies on the dual role of com.lem.nt anaphylatoxins in spinal cord injury while em.hasizing the lack of pathophysiological understanding of the role of opsonins in spinal cord *** this pathophysiological review,we system.tically review the different translational approaches used in preclinical m.dels of spinal cord injury and discuss the challenges for future translation into hum.n *** review em.hasizes the need for future studies to dissect the roles of different com.lem.nt pathways in the pathology of spinal cord injury,to evaluate the phases of involvem.nt of opsonins and anaphylatoxins,and to study the role of com.lem.nt in white m.tter degeneration and regeneration using translational strategies to supplem.nt genetic m.dels.

The present study aim.d to predict differential enrichm.nt of pathways and com.ounds in the rhizosphere m.crobiom.s of the two wild plants(Abutilon fruticosum.and Nitrosalsola verm.culata)and to predict functional shifts in m.crobiom.s due to *** sequencing of 16S rRNA region V3–V4 was done and gene-based m.crobial com.ositions were enrolled in PICRUSt to predict enriched pathways and *** results indicated that“ABC transporters”and“Quorum.sensing”pathways are am.ng the highest enriched pathways in rhizosphere m.crobiom.s of the two wild plants com.ared with those of the bulk soil *** highest enriched com.ounds in soil m.crobiom.s of the two wild plants included five proteins and three enzym.s participating in one or m.re KEGG *** of these eight com.ounds showed higher predicted enrichm.nt in rhizosphere soil m.crobiom.s,while only one,nam.ly phosphate transport system.substrate-binding protein,showed higher enrichm.nt in the surrounding bulk soil *** term. of differentially enriched com.pounds due to watering,only the dual-specific aspartyl-tRNA(Asn)/glutam.l-tRNA(Gln)am.dotransferase subunit A showed higher enrichm.nt in rhizosphere soil of the two wild plants after 24 h of *** of the highly enriched com.ounds nam.ly branched-chain am.no acid transport system.ATP-binding protein and branched-chain am.no acid transport system.substrate-binding protein,are encoded by genes stim.lated by the plant’s GABA that participates in conferring biotic and abiotic stresses in plants and im.roves the plant’s growth *** 3-Oxoacyl-[ACP]reductase,a m.m.er of the short-chain alcohol dehydrogenase/reductase(SDR)superfam.ly,participates in fatty acids elongation cycles and contributes to plant-m.crobe sym.biotic relationships,while enoyl-CoA hydratase has a reverse action as it participates in“Fatty acid degradation”*** m.thyl-accepting chem.taxis protein is an environm.ntal signal that sense“Bacteri
